How did Sony go from such a HUGE market share last gen -- to still playing catch-up to Microsoft???
You can't blame it on the one year head start - cuz you gotta factor in the 120 million user base of the PS2 (you know, the last gen system).
I don't get it. How can Cows not admit this is a MASSIVE blow to Sony - who are now just trying to stay in the game???

It boils down to five words: Five hundred ninety-nine Dollars.
Sony arrogantly assumed that the popularity of the Playstation brand would be enough to push a console for this much money. To your average consumer, cost is a critical factor in any purchase. Especially in the US and Japan, two countries in the grip of economic decline.
Now I know the PS3 is no longer priced that high, but it doesn't matter. The damage is done. Sony has lost their stranglehold over the publishers. The brandname is tarnished. And even at 400USD, the console is still priced too high for many people to even consider. Remember, the PS2 enjoyed the bulk of its success after hitting the 200USD mark.
