You can't blame it on the one year head start - cuz you gotta factor in the 120 million user base of the PS2 (you know, the last gen system).

I don't get it. How can Cows not admit this is a MASSIVE blow to Sony - who are now just trying to stay in the game???

I dont get it...what does microsoft have to do with any of this? Perhaps their loss in market share came when they announced $599.99? remember that?

Sonys sales are higher than ever, major exclusives are on their way, PSN is getting updated to include nearly all features of XBL, and the price is now compeitive...

It's simple... The PS3 is just too damn much... The 360 is only slightly better in that regard, which is why both of em are getting their ****** kicked by Nintendo. Do you realize that at this junction in the XB/PS2 lifecycle both system's were $179.

Sony's decrease in marketshare is mainly because of Nintendo, not Microsoft. Last year, when the 360 had everything going for it, it still LOST in WW sales

Sales- Because its the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market? not because of the games

Exclusives- Sure there on their way, but what about the past year?

PSN- Hey if you cant beat umm....copy them ;)

Price- Still the Most Expensive, Ps3= 399.99, 360= 279.99, Wii= 250.00

Listen jenius. The ps3 been outselling the 360 worldwide by an almost comfortable margin since MANY months. It seems 360 only wins when it's the only console on the market, 2005. There are more 360 because of the year headstart. End of discution.

Something about begging for change and collecting cans on the street to save up for a PS3 probably didn't sit right with those of us considering the purchase.

LOL. We've had PS_John. X360_John, and now we have Wii_John.

But as much as you and X360_John try, you'll never be as popular as the epic System Wars legend that is PS_John.

if there was no 360, the ps3's competition would be the wii and the PC. obviously, with one less console on the market, sony would have a much bigger market share.

Is this a joke thread?

Take out? since when did the console race end?

MS had a year head start, at the time of no real nextgen competition, MANY devs and games jumped on to the system..leading to more games in general now. Common sense.

Think PS2, its what MS did.

PS3 still manages to outsell the 360 in some places.

Wait and see and don't be silly.

It's a combination of Sony shootingthemselves in the foot and the Wii's dominance. I don't see how somebody could say it was because of MS.

That doesnt mean that microsoft was the sole contributor to Sony losing its market share. It was mainly their horrible price point and bad publicity.

I'm not taking anything away from microsoft. They really stepped it up this gen. But when are people going to realize that this "war" goes behond just the 360 and the PS3.

I think Sony punched itself out with the PS3, and it would only take one punch from the 360 to take them out, and it probably happened already.

there's your culprit. the head start, the biggest factor when added with a few more allowed microsoft to capture the 3rd party devs, flood the market with the only HD console out there for a year, etc.

Yeah you can use the year head start because the PS2 did not sell much faster than the PS3 is now. But the 360 is smacking the PS3 back into reality.

Sony is not even close to being "out of the market". They are catching up to the 360's ONE YEAR headstart. That alone is a testament to their impending triumph, considering the TONS of mudslinging and flack they took early in the PS3's span, and the fact that its most anticipated games are JUST NOW starting to come out. I mean... it is not down and out, if anything, it is catching up.

Does NO ONE remember the story of the Tortoise and the Hare? MS jumped the line, and took off like a bullet. We'll see how that works out for them. but considering the PS3 is outselling the 360 month by month, BEFORE MGS4 even came out... Yeah..

I say the PS3 passes the 360 sometime in mid-late 09.

It boils down to five words: Five hundred ninety-nine Dollars.

Sony arrogantly assumed that the popularity of the Playstation brand would be enough to push a console for this much money. To your average consumer, cost is a critical factor in any purchase. Especially in the US and Japan, two countries in the grip of economic decline.

Now I know the PS3 is no longer priced that high, but it doesn't matter. The damage is done. Sony has lost their stranglehold over the publishers. The brandname is tarnished. And even at 400USD, the console is still priced too high for many people to even consider. Remember, the PS2 enjoyed the bulk of its success after hitting the 200USD mark.

The ps2 cost less than a ds but Ps3 cost more 200 dollars than the xbox360. The only reason the ps3 is starting to sell real good is because of the price drop. The point is it is hard to pay 400-600 dollars for the ps3 when both the wii and xbox360 are cheaper.

MS got the 360 out a year sooner, decent graphics, online, good controller, the achievements were a great hook. RRoD and $50 live a year isn't helping them though. Plus the $599.99 pricetage, slow start, not enough games, not as strong online setup as MS (although it gets the job done), no rumble, lost exclusives etc were all factors that hurt sony. BUt they're not really limping away. Sony is catching up alarmingly fast from the 360s HUGE lead.

Yeah, MS was able to get more market share this gen, but that doesn't mean sony is crying over it. They're still going strong and gaining ground every day.

Everything that is going bad this gen is entirely Sony's fault. MS really has not done much besides launch first and buy a lot of exclusives.

Pretty much. Its like they aren't even trying. They are just letting MS run wild and not even caring about competiting with Nintendo in Japan or in any other region.

You give Microsoft too much credit. Do you have any idea how much a PS3 cost when it was launched? A pricetag that high could turn-off even the most loyal fanboy. As long as there are still PS3 gamers out there, MS will never take Sony out.
