Would the Wii U have benefited from additional fine-tuning and a Q1 2013 release?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I think so. This E3 they will have a focus on refined games. Launches, while exciting, are difficult to get started; the games aren't as big, the support isn't plentiful, and the conference has a focus on hardware. So as a Wii U gamer, I'm excited to see a conference concentrating on the games rather than hardware.Â
If there is anything that can be agreed on by all if not most SW frequents is that launching a system, regardless of competitors, without a good list of games is a bad idea.
Even PS2 had that problem when first released but made up for it with an avalance of great games.
Do I think WiiU will have the success of Wii? Not even close.
Did the head start benefit the Wii U at all? Depends if they release more (better) games before competitors do.
For right now most people feel WiiU is a add-on or Nintendo is just catching up to PS3/360. In a way, that's not far off from the truth. This is their first foray into "HD gaming" and it's not going well.
Nope and I think Nintendo is going to seriously lag behind 720/PS4 this entire gen.

Lag?
Orly?
3rd Party doesn't give a crap about the system and the Audience cares nothing but how games look so Nintendo is just in dead water right now until their heavy hitters come up.
Well, it depedns on how things go for the PS4's and Xbox 720's launch. The Wii U has been fumbling around lately so this "headstart" they were trying to go for did not go as well as thyey hoped, but for all we know Sony and Microsoft could mess up worse with their launches, in which case I guess the headstart may be a bit beneficial.
You sure have a lot of hope for the 720/ps4... I wonder why. We have only heard bad things about them. I haven't heard of any exclusives yet and have little reason to believe that they will show with much interesting games.
You're being unreasonable.
Me? Not a lot of hope, nor am I unreasonable. I just have some basic expectations of next gen consoles actually bringing new stuff to the table, as opposed to failing hard against last gen consoles. I'm currently playing Far Cry 3 on my "hunk of junk" 360 from 2005, and it's way more impressive then anything I've seen on WiiU. (not just graphically)You sure have a lot of hope for the 720/ps4... The rumours suggest about the same jump in hardware that last gen saw. Why would exclusives be announced when neither console has been announced? Its not just exclusives either. Its about getting pc level graphics on multiplats as well. You sure have a lot of hope for the 720/ps4... I wonder why. We have only heard bad things about them. Graphics have barely evolved in the last 5 years. Mid end pc's can max almost any game at 1080p 30fps.
How could console hardware exceed pc hardware pricing? PC hardware is sold strictly for profit and marked up quite a bit. Consoles are sold at cost or a loss plus the components are made in such high volume that manufacturing is cheaper.
Not even close, the Wii U has failed, worst launch ever for a console, its only just on par with the ps3/360, for me I feel as tho the Wii U should of been the console they brought out instaed of the Wii, I think they've completely missed the reason the Wii sold so well. Plus no AAA games are coming out till near the end of the year, now with the ps4 being announced its being over shadowed soon after the 720 will be shown off, everyone going to be more bothered at e3 on the new graphicly powerhouses and yet again be over shadowed, and again were more than likely seeing them all released by the end of the year and any real console gamer will be saving up for them and not a Wii U, I honestly believe its the worst launch I have ever seen for an out of date console.

Bigger worlds, more enemies/stuff on screen, better physics, better AI, more creativity (ie Minecraft/Little Big Planet), more destructable terrain (Battlefield), more interactive systems and emergent gameplay (Far Cry 3 fire and animals), better animations (ie LA Noire faces), more innovative uses of online and content sharing, along with the expected improvements in graphics, frame rate and sound. You sure have a lot of hope for the 720/ps4... They have to drope the price to $199 if they hope to even last past next year. If the PS4 and 720 comes out at $399 and is like 8 times more powerfull there in for a world of hurt. Addict187If they cut the price ANY lower, they'd bleed money out the ass. Not happening.
That depends on how well the other two consoles release. If Nintendo releases some must have games by the end of the year and the other two consoles have weak launch lineups, then it might have been worth it.

I wouldn't say that the 360 was only $400.I think it will as it will give them time to build a decent library for the platform before the other launch and if they can do this and increase sales 3rd party developers might give the platform another look. That's what they really need to win this gen. Games, games and more games. The same is true for everyone else of course unless someone manages to pull off another Wii type situation.

If they could lower the price enough, biting the bullet and enduring severe losses, they may establish enough of a user-base so when they do get games out they're gauranteed sales and they could recoup their losses. I really fear for Nintendo. They are not in a good position now, and when the new systems hit it's only going to get harder even if they manage to get out some heavy hitters. I could see this as being their last console if things don't turn around for them.

With how aggressive Sony has been with Playstation under Kaz, i would guess later this year.
