i have a good blu ray player imo one of the best i would say thx to sony making it so cheap i really like the fact that it will also play games :)

lets face it ps3 fanboys if the ps3 did not have the cheapest blu ray player on the market when it came out then the ps3 would not have sold so many and blu ray would have lost to HD dvd.

very very good the way sony have done this becuase all you fanboys do not see how your beloved sony have used you.

thumbs up to sony on how they did it tho.

i thx them for my blu ray player, but if your a gamer and you thought you where getting a 100% pure gaming platform you must be sick or in denile!

seeker out!

I brought it for games, Family brought it for movies I'm annoyed though because even though the games are good, Sony hasn't made a Malaysian PSN store and region coding blocks out my DVD's Also Blu-ray discs are 120 RM (Which equals 40 AUD which is equal to 27 USD) which is a rip-off So my family is pissed, I'm happy with MGS4 and LBP though ;)

I bought it before the HD 'war' was resolved, and because I judged it the more reliable gaming platform, which was more important to me than the range of games available (no way I could play all of them on either platform). The blu-ray portion was a bonus for me.

If the PS3 didn't include a Blu-ray drive it would have launched at the same date as the 360 for a more comparable price !

Clever, are you serious? BD is what caused Sony to come in last place. If Ps3 didn't have BD it would be in first, or at least ahead of the 360..

I purchased my ps3 since i bought a ps1, and ps2, and also due to the fact mgs4 is a ps3 exclusive, so i wanted a ps3, my bro agreed to it since it has bluray built in, mo other bro said why not get 360, i said u gota pay for the online, and it uses last gen junk, e.g. dvd, disk tray!

and yeh ps3 had a bad start, but now for me my ps3 is giving it its best, (kz2 cant wait hehe)

Then why are software sales so bad for a console that sold over 20 million times and has good games ?

Even in Japan !

I bought my PS3 as a cheap Bluray that came with a free games console bundled with it basically. As far as being an all-in-one media machine goes the PS3 is leagues ahead of microsoft's offering. Even the dvd upscaling is spot on.

But I would never look seriously at Sony for my main gaming machine until they get serious about Online and bringing PSN up to standard - and that horrendous little controller.

Of course if you're not in to online games then this doesn't matter but it's deal breaking for me. All I buy for the PS3 are exlcusives, which are pretty good but all my multiplats go on the 360 cos it's better in every way IMO - from the controller to the online service and quite often the frame rates and graphics too. And why would I rule myself out from getting exlcusive expansions & DLC? It makes no sense to me to buy multiplats for my playstation when the 360 is so much better for all-round gaming.

Do I regret getting my PS3 - no definitely not, I wouldn't give it up for the world but Sony really need to get their master plan sorted out if I'm going to buy their machine next gen.

To be honest I think a high percentage bought it through blind brand loyalty - Playstation still has the biggest name out of the 3 on the high street and that counts for a lot.

Have a look over on the Sony PS3 forums - the amount of people who don't actually know the facts and are motivated through blind loyalty fueled by the hype and misleading BS thinly vield as PR that Sony spurts out is incredible. The latest theme is the PS3 is for adults whilst the 360 is for kids. Not sure why really, becuase it's sleak, black, shiny and bland looking? has a no-frills under-developed online? Here we are 3-4 years in and people still believe in the power of the Cell because the Sony PR man never lies...

IMO the informed gamer buys the 360, those who can't be bothered doing the research or love the Sony brand buy the playstation. Not that it's a bad machine but it certainly deserves third place this gen.

Yeah but the sales aren't just bad they are terrible. I mean it took MGS4 a year to sell what Gears 2 sold in a week.

i can agree with you when you say Sony used the Playstation brand (PS3) to help Blu-ray getting an 'install' base knowing many loyal Playstation fans would get a PS3, thus having authomatically a Blu-ray player in their homes...

However Sony didnt play me, I knew i was buying an expensive console but nearly 2 years later I am a happy PS3 owner and enjoyed many great exclusives which otherwise i couldnt have played and multiplats... PSN though slightly inferior to Live is a great FREE online service and lets not forget PS3 is reliable and has many other multimedia functions.. Blu-ray is just a plus, though it came at an expence...

Its the same as people complaining about 360 when encountering RROD or other probs... I own a 360 and was aware of its unreliable hardware so if one day (hopefully not) it will fail on me, its useless to complain since I know what i was getting in the first place...

All you said is just your personal opinion, far from being facts... Sony might have indirectly imposed on its gamers to spend more in order for them to release PS3 with the Blu-ray format but each person that got a PS3 did it simply because he/she wanted the console for its amazing exclusives. You seem not to get it that Blu-ray only hurt Sony since they could have released the PS3 along the 360 with a DVD drive and at a cheaper price and would probably be enjoying bigger sales and Profits..

Am sure Sony didnt plan being in the current situation, which is in last place and encountering major losses...

Fool, PS3 ain't a blu ray player.

It's a blu ray player capable of running the interactive movie Metal Gear Solid 4.

I think TC was getting at sony for shoving a blu ray drive on the console to further their agenda in the now defunct format war, I think his point got a bit skewed but essentialy I think he was trying to say that Sony assumed they would enjoy similar sales as the ps2 therefore added the blu ray drive in order to inflate the number of owners of blu ray players when making their case to the movie companies, so gamers have suffered initially for sony's private agenda in the movie industry. The tagent about ps3 not selling as much if it didnt have blu ray is a valid point if you forget that without blu ray the ps3 would have launched at a similar price to 360 so that points a bit wacky. However the comment on the result of the format whilst purely speculative is most likely true had the format war carried on for a few years HD dvd would have most likely emerged victorious but thats more due to branding than any real merit of one format over the other.

Wow another PS3 sucks,is doomed,is only a blu ray player,etc... thread.smh The PS3 is a game console that also plays movies. Just like the Xbox 360. Why do some of you ppl hate the ps3 so much??? Is it because you can't afford it,itbeat you up and took your lunch money,etc... The system is a good game console. If you hate it because you cant afford it then that's just sad. I love my PS3. Sure it may not be selling as the #1 system in the world but that does not discredit it from being a good system.

I've played one Blu-ray on mine, I've had it for a year.

I bought it for games, use it for games, and love it.

How did they use me? I bought a system. I have around 40 games on it (Disc and Download), and I have about 50 Blu Ray movies. So it is an awesome gaming system and it plays high def movies. Didn't fool me one bit.

This is possible one of the most ignorant things I have ever read here on SW...and that is saying a lot.

If the PS3 didn't have BR in it, they wouldn't have had to launch it for $600. It would have launched at $299 or $399 and been way more successful right out of the gate. BR hurt Sony's sales...not helped.

I own 12 games and 2 blu-ray movies, but the blu-ray movies look really ****ing awesome, so its defiantly worth it for blu-ray movies. Yeah sure Sony might be in third place because of it, but The Dark Knight Blu-ray is still awesome. :o
