For me, it was Fallout 4. Literally couldn't stop playing. Put in like 3289489128913257893257693125679 hours. Then the VR edition came out, and put like 755789345708923578932475098237589342795832509324709375983759345789302578093257089354809 hours into that one. Freaking ridiculous.

I've since been to rehab. No longer am I a Fallout-oholic. At least until Fallout 5. Though FO: London is tempting me.

What about yoos guyzzz

here's a nice picture of Sammy

Street Fighter V

TOTAL PLAYED 973.1 hours

When saw that put me off playing 6. Don't really want to go down that rabbit hole, maybe sometimes play 2-5 hours of a rando picked fighting game with someone but not doing that time again.

Definitely Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and Elden Ring for me. Was laser focused when playing them and thinking about them when I wasn’t.

Super Metroid and UMK3 were addictions of mine in my 20s and 30s. Thankfully, I’ve abandoned these games completely.

Memories.

In Dota 2, I recorded over 3000 hours. Didn't regret it though, very entertaining for a long time.

Super Metroid came pretty late to me, age reasons. But it quickly became top 5 for me. Probably have beat it 100 times, at least. Fairly obsessed with the music/atmosphere/color scheme/Samus. Named one of my cats Samus (RIP).

For some, it was WoW but for me, it was Skyrim. When Skyrim came out, it wasn't anything like that during the 7th gen. Had fun using mods and even the nuddy mods kept me coming back for lol. But overall, Skyrim was just one of those relaxing games that didn't take itself seriously. 13yrs later, I still haven't bothered to complete the main quest. Too much stuff to do and wanted to finish it but just had other stuff going on at the time.

Depends on what you mean addicted. I have burned a lot of hours playing the total war series.

It has never seriously impacted my life. But sometimes I have been less available than my friends and family would have liked too.

Nah.

I mean, I play a lot of games in general, but I still handle my responsibilities. If I am an addict, I'm a high-functioning one or whatever they're called.

Might've come close in my Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft days. It's very possible I skipped a class or two to play those games with my friends lol. But no, I've never like long-term neglected anything.

An addiction is a chronic dysfunction of the brain system that involves reward, motivation, and memory. It’s about the way your body craves a substance or behavior, especially if it causes a compulsive or obsessive pursuit of “reward” and lack of concern over consequences.

Nope!

It's weird. I reached a point in Diablo 2, like at 300 hours or something, not that bad, and just lost all interest all at once. Literally couldn't get myself to turn the game back on. Never really had it happen like that. I usually drag it out forever.

Yup, that's how I am now.

I'll play the crap out of these games, and when I get to the end-game I'll spend some time getting good gear. But then I just hit a wall where instead of spending an hour or two to get what I want out of the game, I have to spend 10 hours...and that's not worth my time.

Back in the day, when I was broke and didn't have alternatives and I had friends that played these games, hell yeah I'd keep going...but now, not so much.

Like I still play WoW, I'll level to max level, maybe do a raid or two, but then I either move on to another character or take a break from the game.

I am currently addicted to Path of Exile 2. It has been out for 9 days, and I have 86 hours. I beat the campaign and am on endgame maps!

My students have commented about how tired I seen to be this past week, and I am feeling it. Thank goodness that this next week is semester exams (already wrote them and posted them so I'm in the clear).

With winter beak around the corner, I am going to hit it so hard in Path of Exile 2. I told my classes that If I die over winter break don't despair I did it for the future of Wreaclast!

No seriously.....this might just be the end of me!

The last games that I got addicted was Super Smash Bros. Brawl where after I got my copy from a GameStop after midnight, I played the game from the early morning hours to several hours after sunrise.

I never had similar experiences with the Wii U/3DS games and Ultimate (which I bought, but did not play that much as I began to lose interest in Super Smash Bros. during the Switch era).

I’m kind of hooked on Helldivers II at the moment but no game got me hooked like Warcraft III & Frozen Throne did back when I was a kid…use to even wake up early to play a match or custom game before catching the bus 😂

I’d say Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare was another title I was absolutely hooked on; followed by League of Legends

I’d say Fallout 3 was the one single player game that got me hooked…did the midnight launch and everything and just loved everything about that game

It just that for me playing a game a lot means 100 hs over half a year.

For other people maybe it's 1000hs

Since the criteria for "addicted" seems to be you spending hundreds of hours into a game, I guess I've been addicted to many games.

Hunt Showdown, Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Doom 1&2, Super Mario (all of the good ones), Zelda (all of the good ones), Diablo 2, NFS Underground & Most Wanted, Battlefield 2 & Bad Company 2, SSX 3, F-Zero GX, Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Kart (all the good ones), Soul Calibur 2.. too many to list.

Two times, the first one was with Ragnarok Online, more than the game itself it was because i played with my IRL friends, but most days it was from the time i arrived to my house from school til the time i sleep, sometimes we didn't sleep and were like zombies in school.

The second time was with Battlefield Bad Company, played the hell out of the multiplayer, almost all day long, ended up giving it to a friend for a while because i became paranoid and reacted to everything like the cats.

I don't even know how many hours I've spent playing Drakkhen for the snes over years honestly ,it may not be the most good looking even by it's release But I practically have the ost to that game practically living in my head rent free.

Starcraft and Fallout are also some of the most immersive gaming experiances i've played

and Final Fantasy 7 Also had a grasp of my attention for a good deal of 2009

Donkey Kong Country 2 is pretty sublime too

All the time. If a game is really good imo, I become addicted.

GTA 3

KOTOR

Hearts of Iron III, 600 hours

Skull and Bones, played like 2 or 3 hours everyday for 3-4 months.

I was more addicted as a kid with NES and SNES generation games.

i had real problems with elden ring and wukong earlier this year. could not stop playing them. waking up early to play, staying up late into the night playing. load of other side hobbies, responsibilities etc. went out of the window. didn't help that wukong dropped just as i was getting done with my second consecutive playthrough of shadow of the erdtree so the baton of addiction was passed without any break in between.

was a fun few months and got so much enjoyment out of those games but i was hyper aware of how much other life stuff was slipping because of them.

need to caveat it with it's such a rare feeling to get consumed by games in that way these days, it took me back to being a kid and that pure pleasure i used to get out of so many games back in the earlier days of gaming. very rarely happens where a game grips me to that extent any more

I can't think of anything like this that happened to me.

I've become very engaged with games I was playing and thinking about them when not playing them, wishing I could get back to them, but I didn't feel a compulsion I couldn't resist to the detriment of responsibilities. If anything I have a compulsion to take care of responsibilities because I can't seem to take time for myself until I've done everything I can, spent time with my kids, got everything ready for tomorrow, etc.

Admittedly, all jokes aside, my gaming "addiction" days, such as they were, came to an end when I had a kid. That really changes things. But in the best way.

@nod_eclipse_: Maybe something is wrong with me because I was always like this. I might have missed out on fun when responsibilities were less consequential. But with kids I did become less selfish and the reason I was responsible became less for my benefit and needs and goals, and more for theirs, and I agree, change in the best way.

From about 2020-2022 I would always boot up Rocket League for "a couple matches" but end up playing until way late and not get enough sleep. When our first child was born I uninstalled and haven't gone back since.

Streets of Rage 2 is one of those games that you can play anytime and get instant enjoyment from. It has way better music and more moves than Final Fight.

Who is the best fighter in Streets of Rage 2? I'd say Axel with his "dragon punch" attack (press forward and the attack button at the same time). Max is a close contender. His grab attack does tremendous damage, but he is too slow.

Crazy Taxi. Which I like to call the digital drug. The IGN review is spot on. See https://www.ign.com/articles/2000/01/29/crazy-taxi-7

If you don't want to read the review, just read this:

"And that's the thing about Crazy Taxi. It may seem a bit shallow or short-lived at first, but the more I played it, the more I wanted to play it. It is the closest thing to a digital drug we have ever seen....Ah yes, there is nothing quite like picking up a game and realizing after a what seems like a few minutes that you just spent the last 7 hours trying to get just $1,000 more".

Nuff said. Crazy Taxi was my ultimate digital drug.

Been playing BG3 a lot. Put in 120hrs so far, and have one complete playthrough. Enjoying the shit that can happen... Got into a convo with the hag in act 1, but left Gale out of the party and switched to him, surrounded her with smokepowder barrels and blew her to kingdom come. That way she doesn't head into her lair and it's an easy save for Mariyna (though she's nuts).

Yeah, Mr Stone is my main, and I only ever play the game on Mania difficulty.

Oh, and Crazy Taxi is also another great game to chill out on and gets pretty addictive, but you gotta be playing it on the Dreamcast right?

@last_lap: Yep. My Dreamcast is broken, but back in the days, I played Crazy Taxi on it nonestop. What a console the Dreamcast was. Nearly as powerful as Sega's Model 3 board, it was the closest we had yet seen to arcade perfection.

@pmanden: My Dreamcast is still plugging along, and I keep it in its box, so it doesn't collect much dust.

Yeah love me some Crazy Taxi. Still play it from time to time, and I own Crazy Taxi 2 also, but it's just not as good as the OG, and Sega announcing the new Crazy Taxi game as a MP game I was like 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Sega of old 💩 all over Sega of today as alI they do is make Yakuza and Persona games. They lost the magic of making fun games, such sadness 😢
