Ok heres a nice poll

Back a few months back I fell in love wit h digiital downloading. I now download 2/3 of pc games and its one of the best things in gaming I have done. I dont have to worry about losting or scrathing a game disk. If I lost the data I can redownload it again and if I change computer I can just log into my account and download it to taht one. Only thing I would have to worry about is Steam/Derict2Drive/Gametap servers going offline forever.

The only downside is I dont get a case or artwork?

but since most things such as music and movies are downloaded I have a question

WOULD YOU RATHER GET UR GAMES IN A DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL FORM

I love steam, I would want every single PC game to be on there! no more wasting resources on boxes & looking after CD Keys, just point , clikc , download . play.

Download.

I know some people like to collect them, but I certainly dont, I dont see many people be impressed by a giant stack of boxes of catridges/discs in your house.

Everything digital is the future! :D and Wireless ofcourse.

If i had lightning fast internet like sum people do here which can download 1gig in 5 minutes, If my computer was immune from viruses, if my internet was absolutely free and had no limitations, and if i had 10 Terrabytes or more of HDD space, i would gladly go for digital, but until all those conditions are met, i'll stick to physical....plus i like holding a case and the manual :D

physical, especially since its the same price, i think having a box, a cd and a manual its pretty much better then payng the same ammount of money for a download and and digital manual.

Cd, i dont need to burn a backup image,

manual and box, theeres always some concept art, and usefull information on those.

I prefer physical. With digital you are at the mercy of the Developer/Publisher. I made the mistake of downloading Warhawk insteading of buying the physical copy. I wanted to get to change my PSN name and found out the only real way you could do this to create a new account and erase the old one. The problem with this is Warhawk is tied to the account it was downloaded too. So now if I want to play Warhawk I have to log into the account that I do not want anymore. If I had the disc I could just reinstall on my new PSN account.

Physical, at least for main games. I've no problem paying $5 or $10 for some small XBLA games (I have 10 of them now I think). I have never had a problem with scratched discs, and in my years of gaming have only lost one disc, but it was to a game I only payed $10 for used anyway (GTA III PC version play disc, where did you go?)

I keep all my discs neatly stored in a CD case, pack in any relevant CD keys from the jewel case. I can still fire up my ancient copy of 7th Guest if I want; I can't say I feel so confident that a decade later I'll still be able to retrieve my digital downloaded games.

EDIT: Post above makes another good point, DD games typically have much harsher usage restrictions.

then make those games without boxes, manuals, cases cheaper and il buy them, dont you think that if you get less stuff with your game when you download it, you should also pay lass for it?

Yup, although they have to pay to keep the download servers up , so i think the costs differences are minimal really.

and well me personally, I stopped caring about cases and manual when I was 12 . the information was uncessary tbh, no manual told me anything I couldnt work out iwthin the first 5 minutes myself.

Other than Microsoft Flight simulator X_X

Physical. No question about it. There is just this special feeling of going to the store, buying it, opening it and sticking your nose in there and taking a big whiff of the newness, and inserting it into your drive. Digital is too scary. I do not want to be at the mercy of a random website that could easily go down forever and bring all the games down with it.

I guess it has something to do with 2 harddrives physically breaking on me and a flash drive going nuts and deciding to screw up all of my files on it.

I will always prefer a physical copy over a digital download. I own the physical copy and can do whatever I please with it. Usually the digital download has some kind of restrictive DRM that only causes headaches.

I like hard copies, the smell of a brand new game is intoxicating, especially the manual. And screw the nature, I like my boxes plastic and manuals made of at least 2000 year old Redwoods.

Physical.

I'll relate this back to vinyl records. Why do people still buy them? Sound quality is debatable, so let's put that aside. But in terms of convenience, CD wins hands down. So why do people still buy them? Sentimental value? Collective purposes? DJ? Or 'cause it reminds them of a simpler time? A time before digital. Before downloading. Before the iPod etc. You know, the good 'ol days.

It's more than physical vs. digital - it's memories vs. numbers on a hard drive.

/philosophical rant

Digital. The internet is just the beginning. Soon, everything will be connected to everything. Look where we are from, say, 15 years ago. Remember beepers? Now we have cell phones that can surf the internet, play games, watch movies and listen to and store music, and take pictures and record movies. There's going to be too much media moving around here in just a few years to have hard copies of everything. Or, perhaps, anything. Plus, you can expect some tough new Global Warming laws over the next decade, and since moving hard copies requires trucks and boats, and is in the end unnecessary for the medium, you can bet it will be one of the earliest things to go. Universal connectivity is coming. I doubt the next consoles will even have disc trays.

maybe in america but here in nz the orange box =$100nzd steam download = $65nzd, I'll take the steam version and not only just for the price difference but due to thing like no need to get out the disk, automaticly kept up to date, I would buy every game online if they were all on steam

I like Stardock's solution: They mail you a CD, and let you download the game instantly. Why does it have to be one or the other?
