but it gives you the idea of how unnecessarily cheap something is made.

dutch tv evidence

new 360

as shown in the first video, it only takes 4 rubber pads around the lens. I really cannot understand why they improved many things in the new 360 - even useless touch sensitive buttons - but didn't take care of such elementary thing. It only makes me think that they have no clue about it or just don't care at all.

I was lucky because I only destroyed the demo disc coming with the 360, from that moment on I literally glued the xbox 360 on the table.

Ms should really fire that company that makes those 360's and go with a better one.

it is a big issue tbh.A product shoudnt scratch CD's unless misused not bumpped over they should have reinforced the shock padding on the CD but hey cut costs where you can.If they did that the disk scratching issue would have been a lot more minor.

What i find insulting is i pay all that money for a game, console gets accidentaly bumped and its ring scratched that bad it wont work anymore then i have to shell out all that money to play again. All the Dd needs is a simple shockproofing and it would make it much less of a problem.

the quality of a product is a very important thing. I had a bad experience with a cheap car stereo, it literally drained the battery of the car and it broke. then I got a more reliable brand and never had a problem since.

my 360 also scratched the demo.. I had just gotten it and I was placing it on the desk while the disc was spinning inside. ugly noise + disc destroyed. now they put the sticker in front of the console that warns you not to move the console while the disc is inside, but it's ridiculous to think that they didn't bother adding some sort of protection that prevents the scratching.

it's really a shame, an annoying thing for an otherwise good console.

well the guy fails at rubbing steel wool on it, the disc was unsecured and he was using one hand not really effective. Plus that wasnt pure steel wool that was one of those SoS pad thingys.

Why not? Maybe its in the way and you want to move it out of the way. Maybe someones vacuuming and you need to move it to higher ground. You shouldnt be prohibited from doing something so simple.

All my systems since the Playstation has scratched discs without being moved including the Xbox 360. The lens in consoles suck, that's why Blu-Ray is so awesome because they're very hard to scratch due to the extra coating.

finally, some 360 hate that is justfied.

an additional 50 cent investment could have fixed this problem.

now i have never had a scratched disc but i can see where accidents happen and blaming it on end use error is just not good enough.

these things need to be made so idiot proof even a dutch tv reporter can't mess it up. a difficult task but possible.

whats worse is when you rent a dvd with a million scratches on it and it still works. then you put a blu ray disc with a few finger print marks on itand the thing wont play.

I call BS on that. I've always taken good care of my games in fact my carts from systems like the N64 are still in perfect condition however, I always had scratched disc from systems that used them dating back to the PS1.

Can you honestly tell me that a disc based game you've put a good amount of time in has not one scratch?

Then you weren't that careful. I've owned two PS1s, one PS2, one Gamecube (and many, many games for them) and the only time a disc was scratched it's when I accidentally dropped my PS1 form the table.

The game I've spent most time with (not counting after NXE let me install them) was Fallout 3 (around 90 hours), and besides two very, very, very minor, almost unnoticeable scratches, it's perfectly fine.

No, I was careful and still am careful. Minor scratches are scratches. I have never known anyone not to have scratches on their games with significant use, now, if you're talking only about unplayable games scratches that is a big difference but scratches in general are a normal occurrence and not due to to someone not taking care of their games.

This whole topic (see the OP) is about heavy scratches. Indeed, minor scratches are unavoidable.

Actually, it would cost significantly more than 5 cents. And considering that this is a non-issue, they not wanting to spend them makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I've had problems with major scratches also and I never keep games in my consoles. Maybe I've just had bad luck but I'm on my 2nd PS2 and 360 and both models of each have scratched discs after a while so, it's definitely the way the consoles are built IMO.

How do your consoles stand? Keeping them horizontally, in a solid table (away from the floor) helps a lot.

I've never had a single disc get scratched. If one did it would only cost £1 to get it professionally polished in a machine. I've never heard anyone use that as a reason not to get a 360.

Considering all the videos on youtube of scratched discs, it is an issue. If Sony and Nintendo can get it right in 2006 Microsoft should be able to in 2010.

So your argument is lets pretend everything about youtube isnt credible and therefore cant be used. Well mine is lets stop pretending SW is a closed system. People exist outside this place, and youtube is used by more people then GS is. Im not sure why your so against a company inserting a "just in case feature in there product" . Those rubber pad could be compared to seat belts in cars. They only serve there purpose if you get in an accident but when it happens your glad theyre there.

Yes, my argument is that Youtube is not reliable in any way (about this subject at least). In fact, I don't think that any user-focused feature that is related to gaming is reliable (see user reviews for games like Resistance and Gears in Metacritic, for another example). If we trusted Youtube, every single 360 in history would have RRoD, every PS3 YRoD and every WiiMote would have destroyed its owner's Tv. And I'm not against MS improving the 360 tray (have never said anything remotely close to that), I just said considering the gravity of the "issue" (practically non-existentant), their attitude towards it is very udnerstandable.

Watch this video, this is some good proof here on the 360. I have it only happen to one of my discs , but my friend has had it over three times. It may be fixed now but it is a problem still.

I don't really like the way the 360 can scratch discs. Is it just moving it, or does having it in the vertical position do it. I have not had one scratch on any of my 360 discs. My 360 has sat in the same spot under the TV since Christmas 2006. I have always been careful, I never knew the Blu-Ray disc was so hearty, I have been treating even more delicate than DVD discs. Makes it a relief I don't need to be as careful. But I will still be that careful (I won't let my wife know, otherwise I am bound to see them sitting on the self out of their cases upside down.

even the cases on 360 games scratch the discs, seriously I pay the same for 360 or ps3 games and ps3's higher quality discs have never scratched in system or from the case, whereas 360 discs scratch if you touch the case or put in the drive unevenly. If the 360 can't fix the console to prevent scratching at least put a scratchguard of some sort on the discs. Considering blue ray discs are more expansive why do most 360 games on release charge same amount?

I must be lucky as I have never had a problem with scratched discs on my 360.

I also don't do the tango with my 360 while it's playing a game or movie either but I digress.
