i feel that as long as you are getting your moneys worth in entertainment it doesnt really matter.

buying a system is as easy as choosing its features do you want an inexpensive blu-ray player? buy ps3.

if you want a great online service with great networking (sometimes) then get a 360.

if you want a good family console with an alternative to button mashing, get a wii.

what do you guys think an exclusives role has to play on the console market nowadays.

since october through november, ps3/360 has gotten some great exclusives that on ps3 make it worth buying and add innovation to contemporary storytelling. and on 360 where they add innovation on sci-fi storytelling.

uncharted and mass effect respectively.

i think the only good reason for a system to have exclusives is to say "hey, look at our games!"

u have to buy multiplat games for various systems based on which systems controller you are comfy playing that genre with.

what do you guys think?

great exclusives bring greater sales to respective consoles... greater sales almost always bring more devs and more exclusives

They do, but they are dying as developers want to see more money for their hard work. Who can blame them?

Bingo! You just answered your own question; Exclusives help to distinguish oneconsole from another, so they're not seen as identical clones with different innards and external appearance. Why do you think people buy their console? There is a reason why people buy all three consoles, or two, because if they were to buy just one, they'd be content with their console's exclusives, but instead, they wanna try out the others. It's business.

I'm buying all three because I wanna enjoy all three consoles and not be stuck with one; exclusives are a determining factor in both sales and consumer audience. Would people buy a PS3 if FFXIII and God of War were to be ported to 360? No. Would people buy a 360 if Mass Effect and Halo 3 were ported to PS3? Nope. Would people buy Nintendo Wii if all the classic Nintendo franchises were like Sega's poor mascot, Sonic, and he's on ALL systems? Nope. That's why they matter. Same with PSP and DS.

The only logical argument to saying that exclusives don't matter is the fact that all the best games right now are multiplats....>CoD4, Guitar Hero 3, AC, Orange Box, etc.....

The multiplats are better than the exclusives.

First I'm going to say that multiplats count almost as much as the exclusives. The old argument fanboys use to diminish a game simply because "it's on my console too", does NOT detract from the fact that it IS on the other console and contributes to the owners enjoyment. They are a part of the systems library, therefore counts for making a purchasing decision, at least in the early consideration stage.

It's the exclusives - those that say "if you want to play ME, you have to buy ConsoleX" - that will provide incentive to choose one over the others, driving that final step in a particular consumer direction.

Yes they do. Thats the reason i own a ps3. I love action and adventure games such as ratchet and clank and uncharted. I am a huge socom fan, huge killzone fan, and love MGS. Last year i was between 360 and ps3 and when i started researching and i found out all the games i love would be on 360 i would of bought it. But no it has 1 game that intrestest me that i cant play on any other system.

I think it matters. It is exclusive games which make each console unique.

maybe i should have thought that out. while were at it i also believe you should buy a 360 or a ps3 depending on which of its exclusives you like better. or buy a 360 if you don't want framrate issues.
