I think they do. You can only play through a game so many times before you get bored with it. Online adds to a games replayability ALOT. PPl that say that games dont need multiplayer are stuck in the past. Wat do you think?

Matters what kind of game it is, and the sort of gameplay that is associates itself with.
First Person Shooters, Third Person Shooters, MMORPG's (obviously), Fighters, Racers, Sports and *some* WRPG's should have multiplayer. JRPG's, RTS's, Platformers, Action/Adventure, Survival Horror, Puzzle and Music games don't require multiplayer but it is openly-welcomed if it is implemented well.
RPGs, Platformers, Puzzle Games, Turn Based Strategy Games, Action Adventure Games, PnC Adventure Games, Non-Racing Simulators, etc. typically don't need multiplayer. Multiplayer works well in a lot of games, but there are also quite a few that don't need it, or where multiplayer just wouldn't fit.MetroidPrimePwn
I agree, except for TBSes. Multiplayer is essential in any and all strategy games, IMO.
All depends on the genre. A FPS for example HAS to have multiplayer, but I don't mind my RPG's not having multiplayer.ganon546No it doesn't. I wouldn't want multiplayer in BioShock or Deus Ex..

Not in the least. Singleplayer games with varied replay value are far better than multiplayer that is just the same monotonous gameplay over and over and over again. Multiplayer will always come second to a quality singleplayer.foxhound_fox
I don't necessarily agree with you. A couple of my favorite games of all time are Battlefield 2 and Age of Empires 2; BF2 was pretty much MP-only and I never even touched the SP mode in AOE.
It depends on the genre more than anything, but I definitely wouldn't say that a good SP game trumps a good MP EVERY TIME.

First of all, are you asking if multiplayer is a must for gamers or game developers?
Well, multiplayer mode is only a plus for gamers, but it's a must have for game developers if they want the game to be more successful. Do you think RE5 would have still gain that enormous hype if it lacked the co-op? Hell no
