I dont think its realistic actually.
reason is, a very good story is good because its a strong narrative, every expression, every subtlity matters to the story. A shoe left on a wire shown early in Better Call Saul has a meaning, if the viewer misses it or doesnt think on it then it looses its impact.
Its really hard to do that kind of strong creative narrative while at the same time giving the player freedom.
its almost like two completely different opposing objectives. more freedom means better game play, less freedom means better story telling.
its really hard to mix the two in my opinion.
I think the human brain works in two main gears, one is being engaged while the other is observing.
mixing the two constantly I think is not good.
