The GTA games have never been graphics kings or anything, but GTAIV hasn't aged well at all.

Well to be fair there is a lot of city and other things to be processed and rendered. Usually people forget stuff like that in the little graphics showdown threads we see here.

Great physics and lighting. Other than that, the graphics are nothing special, unless you consider the scope of the game.

They look "good", but they are extremely blurry. To hide the flaws it seems as they covered everything with Vaseline then sprinkled sand over it.

You can't have the same level of detail in an open-world game like GTAIV as you could in a linear game like Uncharted 2. There's only so much memory to work with.

With that in mind I think Rockstar did a damn good job on the graphics for GTAIV.

Considering how huge the game is and the pop in isn't really bad. I think it looks great!

It was always the scope and draw distance of GTAIV that impressed me.

Have you ever flown over the city in a sunset? Very beautiful.

No. GTA IV looks good and highly stylized. I find it attractive. From a technical side, it doesn't look awe inspiring, but much of that is mitigated by the fact that it's a free roaming open world game with no loading times between islands....

GTAIV graphics is a strange area... They are pushing the hardware to the limit with awesome detail, but are also low resolution and you wouldn't say their flashy.

I would agree... but I havent really seen alot of open world games with the draw distance that GTA has.

GTA has always been more about the "scope" of the game with great details for a open world game. They pack quite a bit into such a vast area.

Well, I have to disagree with that. It can be incredibly bad at times. Not nearly as bad as SR2, but bad none the less.

The game looks fine, borderline great actually. The driving physics are just awful though. Why couldn't it drive like Midnight Club?

There are times where it doesn't really shine but there are times when it also looks amazing. It's amazing what R* was able to accomplish overall.

That's actually a very good way of explaining it. But i still think Rockstar did a wonderful job on it. And the city is so detailed and alive feeling.

I think the game looks great for how large the scale is.

Yup, think GTA3's blur without the option to turn it off.

Most of the graphics this gen look bland. To quote Yahtzee "It looks like I'm viewing it from a used coffee filter"

Their are different artifacts for both the PS3 and Xbox versions. PS3 is more blury compared to the xbox which is more grainy, from what I've seen.

I agree, TC.

I didn't go into GTA IV expecting the best looking game of the gen, but the grainy look of the game, combined with the very muted tones disappointed me somewhat. And as time has passed, I think the visuals have aged poorly.

I'll be expecting a lot of improvements from the content side of the next GTA if they intend no major improvements to the engine.

They're incredible for the scale and the limited memory it has to work with on consoles.

It's not a great looking game, but it's decent, and for the kind of game it is, that's incredible.

Yes but the SR2 graphics are really outdated compare to GTA4...

There was too much blur and overall dullness I thought

Still looks great though
