Yes, you'll be all set with that 720p TV. You really won't notice the difference between 720p and 1080p until you get up into larger TVs above 50".

unless your rich, i would rather you take your tv money and spend oit on building you ps3 game library.

mgs4, little big planet, call of duty 5, resistance 2, bioshock, killzone 2, infamous, soul calibur 4, gran turismo 5, socom confrontation, endwar, god of war 3, ratchet and clank tools of future, battlefield, uncharted, dark void, ........

there are too many games out or coming soon for you to worry about wasting your valuable money on a tv you already have!!!!!

You should be fine with that, although Wipeout HD is going to look fantastic at 1080p :).

Unless you want amazing quality videos via Blu-Ray, then not really.

Need: Not at all.

Would an HDTV (720p or 1080p) add to the value of a PS3 IMO: Yes

You should be fine with 720p at 40 inches. Anything ~30 and below and I'd think 480p is fine.

Might as well buy for the future. 1080p is going to soon be the normal for all media. Might as well spend a little more on something thats going to last. You will hit yourself later if you dont.

720 is more then enough unless you're a huge movie buff. And even then at 40 inches you may not notice much of a difference. For gaming on a PS3 you need a 1080p set about as much as you need a wireless adapter to use XBL. Most of the big name titles for any console these days isn't even 720p, much less 1080p.
