Let me start this thread off by saying, PLEASE NO FANBOYS! I want honest, unbias reviews from posters who actually want to help. If you are a fanboy, I will pick up on it and pay no attention to your post. Now I'll get to the real deal:

I've had an Xbox 360 since it's original release. It's crapped out on me twice, but my current 360 has been going at least for a year strongly and looks perfectly healthy. Despite this, I am considering dumping it for a PS3. My best friends, and my cousins have a PS3 and the time I've spent playing it have been really enjoyable. I like the feel of the PS3, the way everything is done. I just like it. Anyway, I have been given some money to spend on an Electrical gadget or something that I really want. I've been wondering in my mind if I should sell the 360 on eBay (Core, with the HDD, two controllers, how much is it worth?) and use that money, as well as the money I have been given to get a PS3. Is it worth switching perfectly working Xbox 360 for a PS3? At the end of the day, I'll make the decision based off of my own opinions, but some good advice would be MUCH appreciated.

The other option I have is to keep the 360 and get something like an iTouch (8GB) or something.

Thanks.

Look at the games. Only you can judge which game library you would rather have access to.

I say, personally, don't sell the 360, but really only because I never advocate selling systems as you often end up losing money and regretting it at some point.

Here's how much I think I will get (tell me if some of my predictions are wrong).

£50 for the 360.

Maybe £20 for HDD.

£10-15 for the two controllers

That's £90 (PS3 is £295).

I should ge at least £70-80 for all my games, FIFA 08, Madden 09, Halo 3, Burnout Paradise, Mass Effect(good times) and NBA 2k8.

Seriously, no bias, just sell the Xbox360 and get a PS3.

You get a console with better and more reliable hardware, the same online for free, Blu-ray (which is clearly the future) and an even better line-up of games. Sorry, I just don't it's even debatable.

I don't know about Europe...But I know I bought my 360 off ebay, and when I was looking for one they ALL sold for $175-180 (u.s. dollars) no matter what they came with. Some just the console, some came with extras. Mine came with two controllers, HDD, 4 games, and a headset, for $180 still. So just check it out and see what the normal going price is

I'm seeing some going for £90 on Ebay.co.uk. These are the premium ones though, I've got the Core.

go with the PS3. I had to make the same decision so I decided to purchase both to see which is better. PS3 is the better system hands down. If you have an HD TV I'd recommend the PS3 simply because the graphics are better and they got a little thing called Blu ray. The PS3 is a far more advanced system than X-Box. Also the X-Box money factor is a problem, I don't like the fact that you have to pay in order to play online. So if you are smart you will go with the PS3, X-Box is only good for Gears of War. Hopefully I helped you out, take it from someone who has both systems.

If you are really wanting a PS3, I say use the money and save up for the rest to get it. But, I would not get rid of the 360, because you will find yourself regretting it at some point. So, Id recommend seriously considering to keep the 360.

So, the real questions is, do you want to spend the money you do have right now on an iTouch, or do you wnat to save up a little more to get a PS3?

First of all a lot of your friends and cousins have PS3's right?

So you can play online with them

You like the feel of the PS3 and your 360 has died twice

360 has a better library but the PS3's library is constantly improving

I say go for PS3

I don't desperately want an iTouch or something. It's just I've got this money specifically for an electronic device and I'm looking at how to use it.

I'm scared I'm going to regret selling the 360, but I guess it's a choice I have to make.

I've got an XPS gaming laptop which can run any game out there at maximum graphics. It runs everything VERY smoothly. However, I don't think a PC can fullfil my gaming needs anymore. Most sports games aren't coming out on PC anymore.

How is the PS3 the more advanced system? And saying the PS3 has better graphics is very much a preferential thing, as from my HDTV, I see very little difference in the quality of the images put out from both systems.

I just recently debated the very same thing. I seriously weighed the Xbox360 vs. the PS3. In the end, I chose to sell my Xbox360 and pick up a PS3. Here's my reasoning for this decision:

First and foremost, I dont hate the Xbox360, in fact, I enjoyed it when I did have it. For me, however, the PS3 was a more practical choice.

Putting games aside for a second, the PS3 offers many advantages over the 360 that I would immediatly take advantage of: larger hard drive, blu-ray player, hdmi output, built-in wireless, and free online play. My 360 only had a 20gb hard drive, no hdmi, I would have had to buy a wireless adapter, I would have to pay for LIVE and of course no blu-ray. The icing on the cake that pretty much sealed my decision to switch to PS3 was the game selection. Many of the titles coming out that I've wanted were coming to not only for the 360 but also the PS3, such as FFXIII, Force Unleashed, Madden 09, Bioshock, World In Conflict, etc. Not to mention MSG4 and Little Big Planet look pretty sweet! The only games I will miss out on is Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War 2, which I think I can live with, seeing how I'll be getting soo much more out of my PS3 than I did with my 360.

Also, I was able to get $300 for my 360 and the one game I had left (I sold the others individually) from selling it on Craigslist.

In conclusion, if you have an hdtv, you play online with friends/family, love to watch movies, and still want the same hit games that appear on the 360, than I'd say go ahead and get that PS3.

I own a 360, but the main reason I bought the 360 in the first place was so I could game with my family and friends who owned 360. By the sounds of it your friends and family own PS3s so if that is a priority for you to be able to play with them and you like the PS3 game selection then I say make the change.

Just make sure that your doing this because its soemthing you actually want and your not just doin it cause you have the money to do it. The best way to decided is really just figure out for yourself which option has the best advantages and least cons...

Good Luck!

o.k firstly i am not a fanboy and i'll give you an unbiased opinion.

as i own both consoles, i would have to say keep your 360 and use the extra cash to get an ipod touch.

the graphics are not much different at all and the 360 has amazing online. also the games are a lot better.

the only thing is, if you love movies the ps3 may be the way to go.

each console advantages:

360- xbox live, cheaper, better games, dlc, controller is a lot better imo, xbla, backwards compatable

PS3- movies, looks, sixaxis, psp connectivity (not sure if that applies to you), internet browser

but in my opinion keep your 360. a great console all round.

because you live in the uk, i asume you want sports games such as fifa, pes, tiger woods etc. etc.

they are all on pc.

and if you buy the crossfire thing you can use your 360 controller on a pc.

i don't really use pc for gaming as i don't want to buy graphics cards and i want to play on my tv, but as you have a gaming laptop, pc gaming could be a way to go.

I personnally don't see where people find the time to play two systems, I barely have enough time play one. But anyway I sold my 360 because I enjoy my PS3 alot more, I am not a hardcore gamer, but I am not casual either, I am very knowledgeable about the subject at hand, so I fall somewhere in between, get yourself a PS3 and be happy u will not regret it.

If you are currently not enjoying your 360, then ignore all the posts and buy a Ps3. If the games for the 360 you have aren't enjoyable, you can consider getting a Ps3. The 360 has GoW and Halo, if you don't like those then Ps3 has some games which you might want to look at. Since you are leaning towards getting a PS3, get one.

I suggest saving your money and buying the PS3 at a later date. You'll hear tell of the PS3s wonderful future and how the 360 can't keep up but we've been hearing this for 2 years now. Why not wait a while to purchase a PS3 when it really kicks into gear, possibly save some extra money if there is another price drop and have the luxury of owning both consoles?
If Sony's to be believed the PS3 will be around for a long time to come.

Patience is a virtue my friend.

I must admit, that was a good post.

Plus, most of the games I play come out on both systems.

It's the plan I'm running on at the minute. Being a student, money I have often needs to go towards other things. I'll pick up a PS3 eventually but at the moment my 360 is perfectly adequate.

Seriously, no bias, just sell the Xbox360 and get a PS3.

You get a console with better and more reliable hardware, the same online for free, Blu-ray (which is clearly the future) and an even better line-up of games. Sorry, I just don't it's even debatable.

Definitely not the same online and Blu-Ray is not the future. There are better media that is better then Blu-Ray that will be out in a few years and the Xbox 360 without question has more quality titles then the PS3. The multiplats on the 360 are better then on the PS3. This was proven at least 1/2 a dozen times on several websites including Gamespot and IGN. It's been debatable ever since the PS3 launched.)

Seriously, you can play the best 360 games on a PC sooner or later. There's not much reason to own a 360.

PS3, on the other hand, has fantastic exclusives, like MGS4.

metalgear-solid

That's why many of the PC developers are rushing to make games on the game consoles now.

Most of the games that finally leave consoles and go to PC's come out 6-12 months later. By then, most people

have already played the game to death on game consoles. No need to get it for the PC. Many students and kids can't

afford a PC, and would rather play the same games on a $200 game console.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself and some other general advice:

  • How many current and upcoming PS3 exclusives are you looking forward to playing? How much do you want to play them? Would you be comfortable with only being able to play at your friends' houses if you do keep you 360?
  • Do you have an online connection? Do you play online? If so, how many friends do have with 360s that play online regularly? How many friends do you have with PS3s that play online regularly?
  • Do you have an HDTV? If so, do you have any interest in Blu Ray HD movies? If not, are you planning to get one in the future and utilize the PS3's Blu Ray capabilities?
  • Do you have a PSP or a PS2? If not, would you consider getting one or both if you decide to get a PS3 so that you can get more out of your PS3?
  • Are you going to use the multimedia capabilities and large storage space of the PS3 to store your music, videos, and pictures?
  • Do you know what Home is? Are you interested in it? How much?

Think about each one of these questions honestly as they all have relevance your decision of whether or not to get a PS3. If you do decide to get a PS3, then consider these questions to help you decide *when* you should make the switch:

  • Have you played all the 360 exclusives that are currently out and that you're interested in? If not, have you been planning to get them and when?
  • How many upcoming 360 exclusives within the next 2 years are you looking forward to? How much do you want to play them? When you do get rid of your 360, is there any way for you to play these future exclusives that you're interested in (at a friend's house, for example)?
  • Look at the upcoming list of 360 exclusives within the next 2 years that you want to play - would you be willing to wait until after you play these games to get a PS3? If so, how long?

If you asked me, I would definitely say make the switch to the PS3 as it has tremendous upside for the future relative to the 360 as well as plenty of awesome games and features now that the 360 doesn't have. The only question remaining is when - I would after you beat those last few 360 exclusives that you would regret if you didn't get a chance to play them. Gears 2 and Fable 2 are two of the big ones coming up, and I don't know about many more in the next 2 years, but those are just a couple examples, so do some more research and come with an answer for yourself.

I hope this helped. :) Also, if you do get a PS3 and want some help or info, you check my FAQ linked in my sig, or just PM me.

Thanks.

I who owns both, would seriously advice you to stick with the 360.

The best option would be to get both, but if you can't do that then just stick with it.

I personally love the xbox360 but i have found that a both consoles can get boring if I don't have any real life friends to play with. That is another reason I love the 360 because of it's better online options and perks, and better options with friends(which makes Halo 3 alot better). So if you really want to play with your friends then get a PS3(or tell them to get a 360) but if they dont really effect your decision then go ahead and keep your 360.

Thanks for all the posts in this thread.

I will have to think about it and I'll make my decision. I'm leaning towards keeping the 360 untill there is a PS3 price drop.

Just look at the upcoming games for both systems and decide on what you want more. There is a chance that the 360 might RROD on you, but you have to really decide if the gamng library is worth it over the PS3. Good luck with your decision.:)

Smart man. Just like I said.)

Get the PS3 next year because it'll have more and better exclusives then, plus the price of the current exclusive games out now will have dropped to $39.99. It's a win-win situation.

I'm strongly leaning towards a PS3.

The 3 360 Exlcusives I LOVED were Halo 3, Test Drive Unlimited and Mass Effect. Those were some of the best games I ever played, however, Mass Effect is on the PC, as is Test Drive. I am also confident I will find some great exclusives on the PS3. MGS4 is one example.

My big question is this, when is the next PS3 price cut? Say if the PS3 drops at least another £20-30. I could easily sell all my 360 hardware and be only £80-90 short of a PS3.
