Do killer apps always need to be franchise games or can it be a brand new IP ?

Im curious what system wars has to say about the matter.

For me personally its been games in franchises that sell me on a system but with titles like Last of Us, Watch Dogs and CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk game Im beginning to think new IP's are a lot more enticing.

Killer apps can definitely be a brand new IP, thats how the big franchises start.

All major franchise games were once brand new IPs, and a lot of them started with a killer ap that cemented the legacy.

It's like with movies, the ones that have no sequels are often the very best ones.

Killer Apps are games that just sell the System. Matters not if they're an exsiting IP or not.
