Only if a game gets consistently bad scores from multiple sources.
A reviewer that doesn't really get a game is something that happens, so I'll still look into it if it interests me, though it may only got mixed scores.
Yes. I use them as a guide on what to buy. I do however buy games that only score 70% or so, especially if the things that gave the game a low score doesn't matter to me, like the save points for Dead Rising, who cares if they make the game harder, it just makes it last longer because you have to gain a certain amount of mastery in it.

I go by gamerankings averaged score, and the score of personal votes. Also, I read the Gamespot reviews, but mostly it's the personal scores that count.
Well it depends. To say never would be a lie to myself.
I have my known titles I want, mostly RPGs or franchises I've enjoyed before.
Yet, there are titles that I'm interested in that the reviews can act as a research tool. I don't really give a damn about the number the game gets (it's only purpose to me is whether I'm reading a review to laugh or to consider the title), I care about what was written about the title. Even then, I dtry not to consider the negativite or positive attitude, b/c what the reviewer may like/hate may be opposite of what I like/dislike. But at least it gives me some insight on the title none the less.
A review (Never from this site) only matters to me if its absolutley dismal. and i always crossreference other sources for reviews. Youll find that while some sites or MAgs Love a game to death, otehrs will not like it as much or not at all. for instance PLAY gave Odin Sphere a 10 (which it deserves) while Silly lemspot (here) gave it a 7.6 (?) however as a rule of thumb i generally ignore reviews.jigglebilly1983
If you like JRPGs than GS is not really a great reference for reviews IMHO.

Any niche or game market towards the hardcore not the casuals always get hased down.
For example look at the score for third strike and red orchestra now compare them to def jam and rainbow six.

They do when I'm on the fence. Great reviews can push me to buy a game, while bad reviews would keep away from them. Most of the time I read reviews to find out the bugs that are in games. If a game is bug free and it is the type of game I like, I will probably get it.
Then there are games that I won't wait for the reviews because I know I will like the game. Halo 3, GTA IV, Mass Effect, MSG4 etc to name a few.
Yes reviews do matter. It's not about the score but the actual reviewed content itself. I get to see what's inside the game before I buy it. I did not buy Red Steel because of reviews and thank god.
Just finished the entire game at a friend's place and he sold it to EB like a week after.Â
I realized how much of a disconnect between gamers and the gaming media there was when I look back and read the reviews for some of my favorite games of the past.
SSB - (Nintendo 64) 6.4
Metal Gear Solid - (Playstation) 7.X
Spawn: In the Demon's Hand - (Dreamcast) 5.X
Yeah, I could give a flying **** about what the gaming media thinks.
when i look at reviews. i look at user reviews. johnusabeis

same here, can't go wrong with 1000 peopleÂ
Nah, usually some are no brainers I know not to get them. Like if a game comes out and i happen to see a bunch of bad reviews, ill look into it and decided for my self.
Â
Usually if I see a game I want to play, I'll rent it, then end up buying it if I like it.
Â
But I don't ever go by website ratings, a lot of people wont settle for anything under 9.0 etc, but some of my favorite games were in the 8 range and a lot of websites don't really glorify it or are very positive about it. Â
