[QUOTE="DragonFlyJ"]How is this game, in your opinion? I might pick it up.OldProfIts great if you are an JRPG fan, if you liked Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, and Eternal Sonata, you will also like this game, won't dissapoint.
I hate Jrpgs. Will this game convert my hate in to love for this genre?

i can't say that I've played it, but i'm just gonna guess that IU isn't the best place to start.
There's a daft rule here that only gamespot scores count in the judging of a game's quality.Ninja-HippoYeah I see.......I feel sorry for anyone who thinks like this, they are missing on some great games. Everyone tilt the 6 into a 9 and pretend Gamespot got paid to give this game a 9.5
Many people are bashing Infinite Undiscovery just because it did bad on gamespot, but look at what other websites have to say, to me this game is average, and not a flop. Game Informer 8 / 10 1UP B GamePro 3 / 5 IGN 7.1 / 10 Average: 7.1OldProf
gamespot forum=gamespot ratings...
everyside gets bashed...i mean constantly cows are bashed for low scores here that are higher rated on other sites..its just a rotation...but yes for a aquare enix game it was a big letdown...
anyways squares going downhill in quality...Wouldnt be surprised if FF13 sucked
71 percent for a game that is charging me sixty dollars isn't worth it. Sure, I may like it more than the review sites, but I'd rather get one of the JRPGs that got better scores, like Tales of Vesperia, to be on the safe side.
The 360 has a nice line-up of JRPGs, so I don't see much point in wasting your time with this "decent" one.

The World Ends With You, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Final Fantasy IV, and maybe even a few other games have gotten AAA, just this year! I think they have released the most AAA games in 2008 so far.
They aren't going downhill. I would be surprised if Final Fantasy XIII sucked. Square Enix is still as awesome as ever, and Final Fantasy XIII will be amazing.
When will people learn the definition of a flop?Ragnarok1051It seems alot more lemmings are becoming like cry baby cow's when games flop nowadays :?

Seriously. I find it funny though cause I told them last year their arrogance would catch up with them.
Game Informer 8 / 10 yeah thats a high score 1UP B GamePro 3 / 5 well 2 would be way to low IGN 7.1 ign scores differently 7 is not "good" like it is hear it was a very negative review / 10 Average: 7.1OldProf
People shouldn't buy average games or flops. But I'm buying IU solely based on the sheer lack of JRPGs this generation.Dahaka-UK
There are so many great JRPGs coming out in Q4 2008 alone. I can think of over ten JRPGs that'd be worth your money. Or at least better than Infinite Undiscovery.
But then again, I don't know which systems you own.

gamespot's scores are what's used to determine flop or not.

Can we get a sticky for the definition of a flop? And please I am begging you can we have the Official Hype Thread back?

i updated the welcome and info thread. the official hype thread system is abused and pretty much worthless.

But it would still be better than how we do it now though don't you think?

i don't know. if we don't have the hype system then the arguments we get are "this game wasn't hyped" or "this game was hyped." if we do use the system, we get the complaint about people underhyping things and playing it safe.

Isn't the point of a hype thread to see what score Gamespot would score the game? If they think it will be a AA then why not hype it AA, but then they still hype it AAA by what they think.
A SW flop doesn't automatically mean it is a bad game, it just means that it didn't meet expectations.
Example:
Hype/General Pre-Release Consensus AAA 9.0+
GS Rating AA 8.0
The game is therefore a SW flop. It doesn't mean that it is a bad game.
The problem is that people confuse a SW flop with the more general meaning of bad game. Which leads to all the confusion and desire to quote other site scores or average ratings etc. 'The game isn't that bad...it scored X at site Y". Which is irrelevant since a SW flop doesn't have any direct link to absolute game quality.

the only problem is the underhype. they vote lower than the actual hype just to make it less likely to flop.

It depends what the objective is and the overall approach.
It is a problem if you're running a democracy on the voting and thinking the purpose is to get official control over ownage.
It isn't a problem if this is more entertainment and a place to capture 'official' opinions in one place. I wouldn't mind if there was an official hype thread with or without voting, but instead of just direct democracy, a mod group picked the final number based on the hype thread but also on their collective observations on what is said on the boards in general. A rationale overrule if it is obvious the voting is being manipulated...and it always is obvious.

Then Ratchet and Uncharted are AAA:roll:

Even then its still a challenge. Take Ratchet for example. The cows hyped it AA to play it safe and it still flopped. Even under-hyping still can result in a flop so there still the challenge there.
