I highly doubt either will show any next-gen stuff, it would stifle sales of their current gen systems if they did. MS may pull out that rumored half-360 media center (codenamed loop) for everybody to point and laugh at, but that's about it.

agreed. Actually I think both Sony and MS may try to launch budget models of their current-gen to put the squeeze on Nintendo's WiiU in the run up to Xmas, but nothing substantial.
Sony will want to put the focus on drumming up some exitement for the Vita, so ealy PS4 news would distract from that. I don't see what's stopping MS though.
I think both companies could be ready to roll sooner than we think. They may each be trying to bluff the other into thinking they're not. They'll want to hold back long enough that they can offer something noticably, demonstrably better than the WiiU, but not long enough for the other to get a head start.
