Poll Do you believe that mass effect is getting a lot of unnecessary negativity? (56 votes)

Yes, the game is getting a lot of unjustified hatred and criticism. 23%
No, the criticism that the game has received is mostly justified. 57%
Don't know... 14%
Maybe 5%

I am not saying that the game deserves a 10/10 or a 9/10, it has many flaws, but not nearly as bad as some users point it out to be. A lot of the negativity was created in regards to the recent bioware sjw controversy, the poor facial animations and the lack of sexy womens in this game. The game has been attacked non stop by anti-sjw youtubers and their followers. Who cares what the devs at bioware think, if they want to be political correct, then that's alright, we live in a free society, but that doesn't mean people should shit on their products, just because they don't like their political views. The combat in this game is actually a huge step forward, instead of hiding behind cover all the time and taking peak shots at the enemy, you can actually play very aggressive and mobile. In the previous mass effects you were stuck behind boring cover/shooting sessions all the time, while in this game there is huge amount of close combat evolved. Check out totalbiscuit's impression of the multiplayer in which he also talks about the combat. However, I do understand that some people don't like the story or characters. But if you gonna review this game, please keep your political agenda for yourself.

I have no idea since I haven't played it, but the stuff I've heard makes me not want to. And I probably wont. Only one I liked was the first one anyway.

I'm still downloading it so i can't talk about how the game is yet, but it's definitely getting a lot of hate it doesn't deserve. Hate, not negativity. And this has been going on ever since the first trailer came out.

I don't really care about what people think anymore. I pre ordered the game and no one can do anything about it. Game critics(and people who review games) have become almost as awful and worthless as movie critics. Hating any big title before it's even out, finding the tiniest things to whine about, always asking for more/asking to go back to "classics"(whatever they are).

Just like what you like and move on.

I think people were just expecting too much from the game. The old trilogy did raise the bar really high up there! But I have a feeling that Bioware just wanted the new game to be something we could approach casually, sort of like what they did with Dragon Age Inquisition. Sure there's a threat but it really has very little sense of urgency and the story itself is hardly something to be considered epic, especially when compared to the original Dragon Age games.

That said, I'm sure I'll enjoy this Mass Effect game too. It's just that I'd probably be better off waiting for a better price drop. Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky and find it for cheap real soon because everyone else hates it so much! That's what happened with Godzilla for ps4, y'know! Bought it physically for 50% off.

It deserve the negativity it get. its worst AAA game i have seen in years. mass effect series is always been mediocre wall cover third person shooter. not long ago i tried mass effect 3 and couldnot play it more than half hour. it was so awful

if mass effect 3 is awful then imagine how bad andromeda would be as it looks worse than 3 in every single way.

now critics finally realise that its been overrated.

mass effect franchise is wall cover shooter disguised as RPG.

I played it for 2 hours, and that was enough for me to know it sucks compared to its predecessors. The criticisms are actually justified. The writing and dialogue are laughably bad. The facial animations are creepily bad. The graphics don't push the boundaries, they're actually meh. The characters are boring. The story didn't seem interesting. The gameplay felt off. It felt floaty, idk can't really explain it. I'm glad I played the trial. Saved me money.

You are exactly the reason why 15 year olds shouldn't play Mass Effect. You most likely skip right through the cutscenes and dialogue to the aim n' shoot part. No wonder you don't like it.

You should try CoD, much better experience for senseless shooting.

mass effect is a game for 15 year olds. its cover based shooter. its gears of war clone with dialouges system. its not RPG. 20 year old FPS Deus Ex and SYstem shock 2 have more deeper RPG elements than mass effects or witcher.

Again, if you had played andromeda, you would have seen that the combat has changed the lot, you wont have to hide behind cover anymore, moving around and being mobile is far more rewarding, but I don't expect someone as ignorant as you to understand this.

Well thanks for confirming everything i said in my first post. Another worthless opinion praising the 20 year old classic trash. You'll be pleased to know i've bought all dlc for all 3 mass effect games, pre ordered andromeda and bought both expansions for witcher 3:)

Because modern game design is shit and any game of today follow old school design is best. witcher 3 is boring and so is mass effect series. system shock remake will put both games to shame so will be system shock 3 and even PREY.

My biggest gripe is that the 80's like synth music is gone. Really makes the game feel so generic.

I only played the trilogy but I always felt the story-telling was going downhill since the first game. Sure there have been gameplay improvements but is that why fans were initially interested in ME?

Many people are angry at the sociopolitical stuff, particularly over the one idiotic gameplay designer (who doesn't even work at the company anymore). That in combination with the fact that its no longer Shepard's story and the characters aren't fan service (mainly because of Cora not being Miranda 2.0, but let's not forget that Gil, Suvi, and the aliens aren't exactly models either) was enough to make SOME people hate the game before it was even released.

Some complaints ARE legit, such as the bugs and glitches. It takes a LONG time for the game to 'get good' (the beginning is very....long, with Eos having a serious Hinterlands vibe). There's also the UI, lack of save on missions (even on normal, there's difficulty spikes in combat, and once you go down you wind up having to start all over again since you can't save on priority missions and it doesn't auto save enough). But once it get's good, it's reminiscent of the first Mass Effect game, which some loved (myself included) and others not so much (fans of the second and third game). For me, it's a damn good thing, since I'll admit to being one of the few that found ME2 disappointing (taking a lot of the RP aspects out) and ME3 somewhere in the middle but I still love ME3.

I really like the exploration, the cast (who are far more interactive, and converse a lot more with one another. In ME2, they barely acknowledged each others existence), and even Ryder. It is Mass Effect Inquisition in many respects, but for a game set in a sci-fi universe, that kind of exploration is a good thing and I love Mass Effect lure then Star Wars and I'm a Star Wars fan and Mass Effect fan as well.

Pretty sure if the trilogy were released in 2017 it wouldn't get as high scores. A lot of it is rose colored lenses and sociopolitical crap mixed with some legitimate concerns. It's sad it's getting a lot more hate than it should, but then again, the first game get's a lot of that too (while the second and third game gets heaps of praise...). Different strokes for different folks.

Enjoying it personally, initially gave it a 9 and now, it still retains in 9 for me as of now.

The Fucks it isn't! Andromeda is nowhere near on Gears of War level in terms of cover, this game doesn't even let you press this button for cover, it's auto covering now, you can't even do some of the best stuff that Gears does it right when under heavy fire. How about YOU go play Andromeda first before talking more Bullshit you are doing now!

I have no idea honestly, I only played a few hours of ME 1, 2 and 3. I never really got into the series. However, I do think what I have seen from Andromeda so far looks rather disappointing. I'd rather go back to the original trilogy than trying Andromeda.

This is kind of where I would stand but I decided not to buy though I was heavily conflicted. I'm a huge fan of the og trilogy bar the ending. I am getting tired of BW's political BS though and from my various trips to other sites female gamers are too. playing attractive badass female characters is not just male fantasy but female power fantasy like in movies we have James Bond and many female gamers want that same thing. Also could BW not make there double standards less obvious with male/female character models.

Bioware have turned to crap so screw it I'll support CD Projekt instead the Witcher 3 dealt with a lot of political issues like racism, prejudice and class without shoving it in your face. I feel Bioware are doing it to show off, look how diverse and inclusive we are as their core fanbase drops them in droves. I also found out they're Canadian which explans a lot and hire based on gender and race not talent..

It's just bad timing. After Nioh, Nier, Zelda, and Horizon Zero Dawn it's hard to look decent let alone great.

I will say I've watched gameplay footage and the facial animations are absolutely horrific, the stuff of nightmares. Then again I played skyrim and dragon age origins and the people in those games also looked poop. So it's not a game breaking issue for me even if it's distracting at times.

I dunno. I haven't played it yet. I'm sure millions of people have bought it though.

Dollars speak louder than internet complaints so I'm sure EA will consider it a success and that will set a precedent for the quality of games they will aim for.

I'm having fun with it. It has the ME feel imo and I like that. Are there legit criticisms? Sure. Do I let other human opinions stop me from experiencing games for myself? Not very often.

As for the SJW stuff, I have often said the anti-sjw people are just as annoying. I get reported and modded for making some jokes about Sony being from Japan on this forum sometimes by people I have seen piss and moan about SJW.

Bioware have been propped up as thee premiere RPG developer. With a perception of a haughty attitude coupled with EA's infamous business practice any fault will be rapaciously devoured by a mass prosperously wanting them to stumble. We've seen it multiple times.

Failure can be a positive thing, it gives retrospective. You can learn more from it than comfortably living in a safe place, which is pretty much Andromeda seems to be, resting on your laurels as the Americans would say.

A kick up the rear may be exactly what they need.

The criticism is entirely justified IMO. If they spent half as much effort on the story/dialogue/characters/voice acting as they did on revamping the combat it would have easily been 85+ on average. But instead they apparently forgot what makes a Mass Effect game enjoyable to most people and just reskinned DA:I and bolted on a new combat system. So we are left with a buggy, unpolished, poorly written and acted, mediocre TPS with exploration elements. That is not really a game I want to play.

I could have (and did) told you they f***ed up when I played the trial and had more enjoyment playing 2 hours of the multiplayer than I did the entirety of the singleplayer portion. And rest assured I am not paying $60 or even $30 for the multiplayer no matter how enjoyable it is. By the time the price drops no one will be playing it anyway.

It was a disappointment and deserves disappointing reviews.
