what i'm sayin is, are you all about how good the game looks? or can the game have decent visuals but have amazing gameplay, strory...etc. I really don't care about the most technically advanced games. i love my basketball games, as long as the game plays great with minimal flaws, it doesnt have to look like actual humans running across the screen. thats just me, i know some people that would force themselves to play a game that looks great, but is broken and pretty much unplayable. those games give me the biggest headaches.

As long as the game is fun, it doesn't matter how amazing the graphics or physics are. There are games that take advantage of the full potential of the current GPU and CPU power of today's machines, but if they don't nail the gameplay mechanic, then no one will be playing it for long. I'm currently still playing L4D2, and that game doesn't look impressive at all...but it's a lot of fun, and that's all that matters.

BINGO, exactly my thoughts, i'm still playing my ps2 alot lately, I don't think games need to cost millions and millions of dollars, need to have celebrity voice actors and all that like games are now. They need to just be fun, kill time, I want great stories to but i don't want it to feel like i'm watching a 60 dollar movie.

Sometimes a gem comes along that isnt the prettiest or most complex technically, that are great. Stuff like Limbo, Dead Nation, Flower, etc. But, for the most part, with the hardware's current capabilities, yes I do like to see pretty visuals. Nothing wrong with having amazing gameplay to accompany equally amazing graphics(ex. God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Vanquish)

It's not the # 1 factor but I won't ignore crappy graphics or say story and gameplay are the only things that matter. I can still enjoy the game and think it's a blast but if the game looks bad for its time then I'll find myself wishing some things about the visuals were improved.

That being said I value art style in games far more than the actual crispness of the images and stuff.

I think it's interesting and fun to see it, but it ultimately doesn't make it a good or bad game.

Well for the most part, 'no'. Just as long as the game is fun & all that jazz. Hell, considering some of my all time favs is stil the ol' skool Super Mario Bros. games (from NES era), Pac-Man (both arcade & consoles), & Tetris--I'd damn sure say it's all about the fun you get out it, lol.

That being said, I also have to say it depends on how well a game ages. There are times when a game doesn't age well w/ the time and couple that if it had shoddy mechanics or gameplay can completely make it a pain to get into decades later. When a game's mechanics can stand the test of time then it doesn't really matter who 'advanced' it is.

This. Go look at Frozen Synapse for PC. GS gave it an 8.5 for its gameplay, and not its graphics, which barely exist.

Only when the techical level actually enchances the gameplay, like in Arma II, Shogun2 or Crysis

Storyline > gameplay > graphics. Although I do take exception to really bad animation, like the stealth in Alpha Protocol.

[QUOTE="chaotzu"]Of course I care. This Samsung LED doesn't pay for itself. I want my money's worth. Everyone in this thread disagreeing should go trade your PS3 for a Super Nintendo and STFU

Why so offensive? So some people have found more value in gameplay than graphics. I mean, sure, I personally enjoy being "wowed" by new tech and photo-realistic graphics, but in the end, I just want to have fun with the game. I do care about graphics to a certain extent, but graphics don't matter if good gameplay isn't there.

I think the art direction and the technical aspects work together to make sufficiently good looking games.

i do care about the most technically advanced games because i think its pretty awesome whenever i play a game which has made real leaps forward and is the new best technically at what it does and i think that can be really exciting.

But i love my wii (although the games have slowed down on it) and plenty of cool DL games too which are good because of the fun and or inventive ways they play so its not like i only play games for looks

People need to stop acting like they are more PURE gamers cos they play games with dated graphics. graphics dont need to be awesome all the time but it can really help if they are!

I would rather play games like Fire Emblem and Disgaea any day over mainstream blockbusters so obviously technically advanced games don't mean a whole lot to me in the grand scheme of gaming.

Hermits with their shiny GTX580 care lol. But seriously if one day we have a game that has AI so smart which rivals a human being, the possibility would be endless in terms of gameplay. Now that can not be done without some serious processing power.

The reason why people don't start loads of discussion around which game has the most fun gamplay is because such is purely subjective. Graphics aren't. So it is easier to debate graphics. So people do, and when they have discussed until having become mentallyfatigued they sigh "but what about gameplay?".Gameplay was always important for everyone. It is just not as suitable atopic to debate as technical excellence.

Care? Sure, it's nice to see how advanced technology is. But there are, as mentioned, other factors that are more important when it comes to a game and how much I enjoy it. Also, can we please stop those *graphics aren't everything* threads? i swear I seee such a thread every couple days since a long time now :S

Not even remotely. I'll play a game if the story and gameplay is excellent, but the graphics are lacking. I recently got into NieR and am having a lot of fun with it.

No, not really. It's always a plus if the game looks good, but I rather have a great game with sub par graphics than a game with the best graphics ever seen but that I'll only end up playing for maybe 5 hours.

I would say that it all depends on the game. What is the game catering to, what is it trying to accomplish or achieve.
