A lot of people seem to dislike the concept of multiple disc games. Whenever someone mentions the possibility of MGS4 getting ported to the 360, for example, there's usually atleast one or two people who jump in an say it would be a bad game because it would come on multiple discs. Does that really matter? Honestly, I kind of like it when a game comes on multiple disc. Whenever I open the game's box, I always feel like I'm about to embark on something epic.

I don't really mind, but I like it because it helps you know how far you are through the game.

I agree with ya for the most part. Do I like multiple disks? No. Is multiple disks going to hamper (at all) whether or not I play that game? Of course not, it would be ignorant to do so.

depends on how many discs and how often you have to change them.

I'm not lazy though. I can change a disc. Not the most difficult thing in the world.

It's an unnecessary inconvenience. Aside from that, do I really care? No.

Do I think MGS4 will ever go to the 360? No.

I remember my friends and I were so excited when RE 2 came on 2 discs. It's no different now to me. Blu ray makes it different? tgen why are movies still 2 disc sets when I know they can fit it all on 1 blu ray disc?

No. If the game is really so long that it needs 2 discs, it wouldn't be played in one sitting anyway. So what difference does it make weather the next time you go play it you have to put in disc 2 instead of disc 1?

Getting up and walking three feet to change discs is not a strenuous task and I don't generally have time to sit on my rear playing games for 6-8 hours in one sitting.

My threoy is this:

We all know the world in Fallout 3 is big, but it's hard to actually comprehend it unless you look at a map. But you know how big a game is to take up a DVD, so seeing more then 1 DVD is a easy way for us to see that a game is going to be HUGE!

This pretty much as long as I don't have to switch disc just to back track in a game.

It's convenient for gamers if it were on a single disc. The disc argument really lies with the publishers though, wouldn't it? It costs more to put the game on multiple discs, so you'll make less profit per sale.

Has any PS3 game used blu ray to this advantage (non - disc swapping when backtracking.) If not... blu ray only helps a minor inconvenience (which extra cost may not be justified.)

What's cool about multi-disc games is that when I get past a disc, I can give the previous discs to my friends to play, and vice versa.

Yes. Because switching disk is very prone to disc scratch.. thats why most of my PS2 PSX games have a scratch on it while my Blurays is scratch free and looks new.. :P

no because that means that the game will be long. i don't think that metal gear will have two disc because blu-ray is storage and developers don't compress the on the ps3 games. i don't care if a game is has more then two disc.

Where is the option for "it depends on the type of game?" For a linear game, such as an RPG, the game could easily be on multiple disks without any problems. Grand Theft Auto; however, would be a terrible game to have on multiple disks. Imagine having to swap disks every time you drive to another island...

Has there been any devs to take advantage of all that room on a blu-ray disc(besides Kojima Production)?

But that hasn't happened.

Or is the argument still that the 360 is holding the PS3 back, therefore a game like GTA4 was limited to fit on one DVD?

What?...

...Maybe he meant Gamecube's use of the minidisc, I guess? Less capacity and it probably doesn't benefit as much from mass production cost cutting as regular old DVDs.

I'm pretty sure that a bigwig at Rockstar was quoted as saying that the next GTA may not fit on a DVD. The only way I could see that working well is if you were to leave one island permanently at one point of the game and continue the second half of the game on another island entirely, but if that was the case, why couldn't it be two different games?

Well here's a reason why multiple disks are bad, or more so the fact that you might need more than one disk. You know the game Rage? One of the new ip's that id is working on? They said the ps3 version of the game would be graphically superior to the 360's version because they can fit that much more on the disk and because they don't want to have more than one disk on the 360 version. I might be sounding like a ps3 fanboy here but i really don't want to be, i'm just trying to get this out to the people who think it doesn't matter if game has multiple disks.
