Yes i do, to get me infinite XP/cash to max out my characters earliest, get best loot (Gear, OP Weapons) for my characters, also get unlockables/Upgrades quickly mostly via cheat engine or trainers in my PC games.I hate grinding as i dont get enough gaming time, thats all. Dont cheat in multiplayer games as it will get you banned easily.

Well?

depends on the game, but for the most part I'll normally play a vanilla playthrough then hit it again and mod/cheat to create what I want from the get go.

nope. i don't see the point. part of the enjoyment i get from a game is the sense of accomplishment and achievement of overcoming a challenge.

if i'm playing a fromsoft type title, my goal is to solve the puzzle that sits at the heart of just about all of those type of games, which is how to make easy progress without needing to grind or farm. there's always a way, if not multiple ways. figuring that out is where i get a lot of satisfaction from. and it's usually just a case of trial and error, tackling the game world in a particular order, paying close attention and being thorough with exploration and experimentation.

same with wukong which i'm playing currently. no grinding necessary. you get more than enough upgrade points by just doing all the content, but to get to all that content means exploring and experimenting, paying close attention to the items you acquire, the npcs you speak to and picking up on environmental clues. it's very fromsoft in that regard.

i did once lower the difficulty in alien isolation to get past a particular point in the alien nest where the ai was glitching i.e. the supposed "random" encounters with the alien wasn't working and it was spawning right next to a save point every time i loaded the game. didn't just lower it to easy, i lowered it to very easy lol. it was the only way to stop almost insta-death every time it loaded. at very easy difficulty the alien was basically blind. got past that bit then bumped it back up. that could be viewed as cheating i guess

Sometimes.

To be honest I find a lot of modern games are too long, and this is drawn out by the "grind" mechanic a lot of them have in order to upgrade your equipment, gain reputation, or just earn money.

Sometimes it is nice to bypass all that nonsense and just get the gear or whatever you want sooner rather than later.

My most recent example is Horizon: Forbidden West. I enjoy the combat but it got a bit tedious at times so I used a neat trainer (WeMod, for anyone interested) to take away material cost for upgrades and it made the game more fun. Still got the same great experience, just without the 10+ hours of farming for materials I'd otherwise have to waste.

There's also times where I just get plain tired of a game and want it to end, so I might go as far as turning on "god" mode or something so I can get the experience of playing the game and seeing the story without having to play so much of it. I did this with that Aliens isometric action game because the difficulty spike was severe and I was far enough into the game I sort of got the experience and just wanted it to end.

Yes, I'm a filthy casual. But I'm a hardcore casual 😋

Not really. If I'm not enjoying myself I will play another game. Usually I have a good idea of whether I'll enjoy a game before I start it, so this isn't a big issue. Anyway not many games have cheats anymore.

100% especially the open world games I check any exploits easy farming exp or money in early game so I could blast through the whole game. I just dont have the time anymore. The faster I finish a game the the lesser my backlog.

Very minimally. Stuff like 200% XP in 7days2die. More like custom game rules than cheats.

I find if I use too many cheats i will get bored and just stop playing the game. More likely if I find myself bypassing the games systems the game is just boring 😅

I'm here to have fun playing games. If that is not the case I will stop playing.

I'm pretty much about as much anti cheat as they come. I don't cheat in games, but I don't have a problem with others doing it as long as they aren't online. In all honesty I feel as though you should get banned at the IP level if you're caught using a cheat device of any kind. Codes on single player are whatever since it doesn't effect anyone else.

Nope. I play through the game on default settings... Then if something compels me I go back for more, but rarely do I use a cheat code... Old gta games is about it.

I have done that maybe only a couple times while I played GTA III and Vice City but that was it ...while it was fun for a while I think the thrills of the power fantasy I've gotten from it has worn down after several months.

I did that for my kids' tablet games because they're stingy with resources and want you to do IAPs or watch ads. I blocked the ads too.

Most of the games I cheat in are those that have intentional grinding, or like Assassin's Creed with their "time savers".

I started using trainers in 2013 when Black Flag came out and all of the meaningful progress was gated behind the microtransactions.

I don't like to use them regularly because they can sometimes suck the fun out of games. I went through a period where I was using them in every game and found myself getting bored because there was no tension from dying or running out of resources.

Not really. I say that because as I kid, I did have GameShark for my PS2, but found cheats to be boring. I mostly used cheats to change the cosmetics of the character, like changing Spyro different colors or big head mode. Modern day, games like Elden Ring, I'll exploit the game if it's something I can do without the use of cheats, but that's only after I have beaten the game and want to start a new character as a certain build a lot quicker.

Edit: Depends how you define cheats, I guess. You ask me, I would say using software to change the game, not using an exploit that the game devs didn't realize was in there.

Depends on what you mean by cheating. In SP games that has "experience points" such as Black Myth Wukong, I take advantage of killing enemies gaining EP and respond to make the enemies reappeared again thus we call this "farming" which can be cheating without cheating.

I always play the game first in its own settings and when I do beat it and there's a cheat code just for the fun of it, I'm down for cheating using cheat codes that are in the game, not pay to cheat that is.

Not for a very long time. It's just gets old very quickly.

I remember cheating in Age of Empires back in the day. You could get like cars with missiles and stuff. Pretty fun to drive into some ancient civilization and blow it up 😅. But yeah, without challenge it becomes boring after a while.

Rarely. Usually when I cheat it is to bypass elements of the game design that I do not agree with. For instance... I used the infinite carrying capacity cheat in Starfield because I didn't want to waste time micro managing an inventory or worrying what I could and couldn't pick up during my adventures. Fuk that shit.

Sometimes I will cheat or lower the difficulty just to get passed an area or boss that is cheap or annoyingly difficult. I don't want to put in the time to overcome it. I would rather just move on and finish the game. Basically if I am not having fun or feel the game is not respecting my time, I will find a work around.

I used to back in the 16, 32-bit days, but back then there were a lot of "cheats" for games, but some of the "cheats" were like unlocking Mania difficulty in Streets of Rage 2 etc.

The cheats I used the most was for Command & Conquer on the Sega Saturn because the map was completely blacked out until you move your vehicles/troops around, there was a cheat that revealed the entire screen, fun times.

I'm not sure if it counts as cheating, but I do use the rewind feature on the PS1/PS2 classics on PSN.

These days I play the game the way the developers intended. Rewind features in games are nice but I rarely use them unless it's the lion king on the Disney classics collection.

@last_lap: Command & Conquer was a PC RTS game designed for mouse and keyboard. Playing it with a controller on the Saturn must have been painful. I don't know why you put yourself through that.

No, but I do like to exploit the stupid AI found in many games. For example in Hitman where I hide in a room and shoot enemy after enemy who is stupid enough to enter the room.

Exploiting the Ai is par for the course... Not cheating! In from soft games I will fight a boss straight up a few times and then I start looking for exploits and ways to kite enemies where it advantages me.

I've done it before. I used the clone glitch for Tears of the Kingdom. The game has a lot of armor sets and to level them up to their max requires a lot of items and I wasn't going to go around and collect them. Saved my self hours.

The majority of games are designed to play on a controller and yet you Hermits still use a mouse, so I don't see the problem here.

The game (C & C) works great on a controller, I know this because i've finished the game on Saturn multiple times, you haven't, so on this subject you know nothing, so take a seat.

I use whatever peripheral is best based on the game. You know, one of the many luxuries of gaming on PC. Mouse and keyboard are far superior controls for RTS and FPS. If you think otherwise, you are an idiot. Playing a game like C&C on Saturn with a controller is not great in any way.

@BassMan: Where did I say playing an RTS game on a controller is "far superior" than playing it on a M & K?

Thats right I never did, you're now trying to twist this conversation to what's "better" when that was never the argument.

I have played C & C on a controller, it takes a little bit to get used to (like when you start any new game) but it plays great on controller because if it didn't then I wouldn't have gone on to finish the game multiple times.

You haven't played the game on controller on a Sega Saturn, so take a seat and stop crying and making up narratives to try and twist this conversation into one you can win.

My experience playing it on a controller > your no experience playing it with a controller, there is no debating this one, take the L and move along.

I tried playing RTS games on a controller before and it was terrible. I don't need to play C&C on the Saturn to know it is shit. The limitations of the peripheral ensure that it is shit.

You took the L the moment you decided to play through the game with a controller. Then you tell me you have played through it multiple times. A true masochist.

@BassMan: So just to be clear on this.

I have played the game on controller and it works great, so much so I've finished the game multiple times.

Secondly you have not played it on controller or on the Saturn and have ZERO experience with it, yet you're still trying to debate this, and actually think you're winning 🤦‍♂️

You lost the moment you let your insecurities overcome you. You and only you are the one trying to make the PC look better when this was never about the PC in the first place.

@last_lap: The whole point is you should have been playing the game on PC. Half-assing it on Saturn with a controller is cringe. I couldn't help but say something. Then you tell me that it plays great with a controller.... double cringe. There is no W to be had playing the game on Saturn. Instant L.

LOL
