No, I don't.
That's because the gaming industry doesn't, and Nintendo and Sony, makers of handhelds see them as Handhelds. Who am I to try make a new standard?
When I go to the store, when I read a magazine, they are handhelds. That's it.
A Hamburger is still a hamburger, no matter how many times I've tried to change the name. Same for Corndog. It's just one of those things you can't do anything about.
The actual games are designed with a completey different idea in mind as well.
The Handheld Sector is a different market, yadda yadda yadda. I've answered this in much greater detail in the past, but this feels like the 100th time I've answered this question.
Now, if you were to ask me if I like my handhelds, I will tell you I own 3 DS's and 2 PSP's, so the answer would be absolutely. Don't ge me started on how many GBA's I own, lol.
I consider them to be handheld consoles. If you are asking whether I put them in the same category as the 360, PS3 and Wii, the answer is no
I have a PSP GO and it really is a portable PS2 especially with the TV-out & Dualshock 3 compatible. I can hook up my PSP GO to any TV and play with a wireless Dual Shock 3. The other day I went to my parent's house and I bought my PSPGO, as well as my connecting cable and a Dualshock 3. Since the TV was free I just hooked up my PSP to the TV and within minutes I was lounging on the couch playing God of War as if it were a PS2 game, then when some people wanted to watch the TV, I simply disconnected the PSPGO! and within a minute I'm continuing the game on the PSPGO. It really is amazing, the system is a home console and a portable.
In the broad sense of the word they are consoles, but generally you know whether or not a person is including handhelds when they discuss consoles and for the most part most people mean home consoles when talking consoles.
Handheld games are just as good as console ones, DS probably has the best library and in general is the greatest console this gen so far. New and interesting genres and a large range of great games. Most games this gen on home consoles are just recycled (e.g. recycled aspects from the PC) with minor bits tagged on (e.g. achievements) or aren't to that industry-changing standard.
Yes, they're consoles. They just happen to be small, that's all. I don't see that as disqualifying them.
Handheld = Handheld console Console = Home console In my opinion, the definition gaming "console" is a device that is designed primarily for playing games is managed by one company who makes all the rules/standards for it. Consoles are closed systems controlled by their manufacterer, which includes both handhelds and home consoles. PCs are completely open system and is controlled by nobody, not even MS.PandaBear86
Actually, Console = Video Game Console. Thank you for playing anyways.

Handheld gaming consoles are in fact gaming consoles which makes them consoles.

I do consider them systems but not consoles because I don't think they are consoles by definition.

You are wrong!
Definition of console taken from Merriam-Webster online dictionary: 5 : an electronic system that connects to a display (as a television set) and is used primarily to play video games By definition, that would NOT include handhelds since they do NOT connect to a display. Handhelds have their own individual display so external displays are not needed. So therefore sir, you are wrong.[QUOTE="Burning-Sludge"][QUOTE="Burning-Sludge"]
