Here on SW it often looks most people don't and to be quite honest I see where they're coming from. The differences between the Wii and the HD twins are vastly larger than those between the twins themselves. The marketing and target audience is comepletely different too. One could argue they're not competing for the same sales (to an extent at least, the demographics will definitely overlap).
On the other hand, a gaming console is a gaming console. So from that perspective you could consider them in competiotion. However, is this too simple? You can't say that a car is a car, for example. A family SUV is not in direct competion with a luxurious sedan.
