It's kinda hard to when there are so many great games coming out now. But systems like the NES classic remind us that people still have a soft spot for the classics. Do you still play any old games, SW? I'm honestly thinking about getting some old games back for posterity. I still never beat Silent Hill 2 and I regret getting rid of MGS Twin Snakes for GameCube.

Yeah, reasonably often (although I mostly skip the N64/PS1 era now, those games aged like shit).

@SolidGame_basic: I'd love to go back and play some more retro games, but I don't own any older consoles. The furthest back I can go is 360 games via BC. I'm probably going to play Voodoo Vince remastered this weekend if that counts though lol. But I must urge you, go out and play Silent Hill 2 now! I know you said you never finished it, but you need to. One of the best games ever developed. Wait till you see the end....

Other than playing a few of the classics I missed, modern gaming is just so much better in every way.

All the time, all the way back to the 2600. I'm interested in going even further back and getting a T1-99 computer though.

@SolidGame_basic: Try to play the original on PS2 or OGv Xbox though. I had to play it on the SH collection on the 360. Even though it did its job, it really was a shit remaster. I hate that I had to play it that way.

Definitely!

I love retro gaming and I'd say at least 20% of my gaming time is spent on retro consoles.

The retro consoles that I still play are:

Atari 2600

NES

SNES

N64 (the N64 is probably the retro console that I play the most often)

Gamecube

Gameboy Advance

Genesis

Dreamcast

PS2

Xbox

Eventhough I have been playing video games for more than thirty years, I was never into retro gaming. Something about previous generation graphics and sounds prevent me from enoying old games again.

I am pleased to see advancements in gaming and I am concerned with the present and future, not the past.

Yes, I play modern and retro about equally.

I disagree there, I find plenty of N64/PS1/Saturn to still be very playable.

Often enough. Having the games on newer hardware with standby helps me greatly like my playthrough of FFIX on my Vita a while back.

All of the time. This year has been an oddity though, because I've been playing strictly new games for the past three months.

Uh, f*** yeah! Been replaying Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy recently (playing it on GameCube this time; more I think about it, the more I think Alex Navarro has a point on the game's controls being more 'at home' on the Cube, but PS2 version still plays great), which is one of my all time favorites

I do, but it really depends on the game. Some games age better than others; in general, I think Nintendo games age well across a variety of platforms and time periods.

OTOH, games which tried to present "realistic" 3D worlds or render humans on really old tech can be painful to play at times. Games which used complicated and unintuitive control schemes to maneuver 3D worlds also aged badly.

Yeah I still play and collect nes games, however it's very expensive because I want all my games in as mint condition as possible. This will end when I finally get hold of my nes mini in a few weeks. I also play streets of rage a lot!!

Apart from that I have quite a few older games on my ps3 and wiiu, Mario Word, Metroid, king of fighters etc. Games I used to own but stupidly got rid of when I was young..

I also play God Hand on PS2 and the MGS games now and again. It's why it takes me so long to finish new games, because I always go back to the old ones.

@charizard1605: I think a lot of rpgs from that era aged ok, because they were using pre rendered backgrounds which don't look horrible.

Final fantasy vii(if you can get past the character models) chrono cross and final fantasy ix look ok

NES is cool, but not that cool (don't get me wrong, there's many games I love, but i wouldn't play them again)

now SNES, a whole different story.

I got my wife a NES mini for Christmas so we play on that quite a bit. But other than that no, I barely have enough time to play new stuff these days.

Yup! Out of a backlog of 24 games

I have 11 games that are PS3 era or sooner

and 13 games older than that- Gamecube, GBA, NES, SNES, PS2, and Xbox.

Doesn't bother me playing old vs new games, can't really say one is better than the other

Yup. Ignoring classic games is like only watching current films, reading books from 2017 or listening to pop music only. That's slave to popular culture-punk ass shit.

@raugutcon: Cluttering? Hah! Anyone who comes into my game room would be like a kid in a candy store!!! If I turned around for 30 seconds I'd find 5 different game consoles on the floor eager to be plugged into the TV along with the most random stack of games ever!

I liked it enough to copy the game folder from Windows XP to Vista to 7 to 8.1 to Windows 10. Of course, it's been a favorite since it first came out on Windows 95.

I didn't even realize Maxis made it.

It's no joke. It's my most-played Windows game, considering I've been playing it on and off since 1995. I haven't bought a new pinball game since. Space Cadet is enough for my fix. So long as it still works, I'm sticking with it.

Old games that I played way back when, not really new games.

Stuff like Age of Empires 3 (plus expansions) and age of mythology (plus it's expansion)

Then stuff like sid meier's pirates.

I did however buy The Guild 2 and Grand Ages Rome (didn't play either way back when), so maybe it's a yes I suppose.

Huh, since when did last gen become retro?

For me retro is from at leasrt 2 or more generations ago.
