I don't think it matters as much as some people tend to think it does.

I enjoyed Portal and Mirror's Edge.

Yeah I don't care about the gender of the protagonists I play as, either way is cool with me as long as they are actually interesting characters.

So long as their presence makes sense and isn't shoe-horned in for the sake of gender equality.

Like Samus Aran, Lara Croft or Faith.

Sometimes. I usually do it in Fallout games because of some of the perks. I also choose to a girl in Pokemon, if the male character looks like a tool, like in Platinum and ORAS.

If it makes sense for the role and game then yes, however if it's an obvious ploy at gender equality in video games then hell no.

You choose the Girl in X and Y because of the killer Clothes Choices.

It doesn't matter what the lead character is for me. As long as the game is fun I'm golden. Hell, it could be a beef burrito I play as and I would be okay with it.

Anybody that has an issue with playing as a female lead needs to address their insecurities.

That's a pretty closed minded black and white way to view things. Like I already said, if the role is intended for a female then it's fine no problem there, however if it's a female role or game created simply for the sake of it being a female to promote 'equality' on the back of this recent feminist movement then that is ridiculous.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate comes to mind... Games shouldn't be influenced by trends, pop culture or societal pressure, they should be what developers actually want to create and nothing more.

Jill Valentine of Resident Evil is how things should be, she wasn't a part of the game because she was a woman or to showcase feminism, she was an integral part of what the developers designed the game to be from their own thoughts.

Yes. Most of the time, in games that allow it, I play female versions of Playable characters, even if it's against the canon (Shepard, Jaden, Warden, Revan, Exile, New Childe, any Bethesda "hero"). The only games I don't are handheld Sims titles (Bustin Out, Urbz, 2) and Pokemon.

I don't really think about it. I don't care what the gender is as long as I am having fun. Funny, I was at a point with Ciri in Witcher 3 where she can flirt with a male NPC and I tried to get laid just like I always do with Geralt. Guess I am just a slut. LOL

On every game I get to chose the gender I always go with female. When I was younger, like 13, I always chose men on fighting games and stuff but after certain point in my life for some reason I just started to lean more toward choosing female characters...

The other day a friend asked me why I do that and I started thinking why... On fighting games female characters tend to be faster so it's easier to do longer and fancier mix-ups and combos. On RPG's I get to dress them in much less cliche ways... So I think this is why I do it.

Although I do have a problem when playing a non-humanoid character like for example Spyro. Which is the reason I preferred Crash so much more.

It doesn't bother me one way or the other. For character creation, in RPGs for example, I always make a male character.

I don't really care.

I will say that I'd say most of my favorite fighting game characters are female.

It doesn't bother me at all, infact I generally enjoy female protagonists more. In the souls series I usually stick with a female due to their smaller frames, it just makes avoiding attacks easier for me.

I have no preference when it comes to games that have a set character of already designated gender, I'll play the games as long as they're good games, and there's some great games out there with female leads.

However, in games where I can create my own character, over the years I've come to have a stronger preference toward creating female characters.

I was reading something that said as people grow older they've less restrictive preference when it comes to gender, and among males they're more likely than females to gender bend in games.

Doesn't bother me at all. When creating a character in an rpg I create both a female and male. If I am forced to play either gender I do not care as long as they are interesting and badass.

If they are strong women I really enjoy them(lightning in ff13) if they are characterized as weak in cut scenes and miraculously bad as in the action like Lara Craft it really loses some of the appeal.

If it's an interesting character/story, I don't see why not

If it's a game that gives you a choice like mass effect, then I usually chose a male character
