Lets be serious. When it comes to Fighters having exact control is an extreme benfit. Hence the reason why after talking to Forza_2 I decided to gut the entire inside of my Arcade Stick and replace it with top quality parts and Zero Lag controller converters.

To be honest, input lag sucks. It makes it hard to put complicated and or delicate moves together in quick succession.

I found this out the hard way using some bad converters just trying to practice Capcom vs SNK2. It became apparent that it was difficult to Buffer moves and even use such Tactics as Just Defend and or Parry.

Which leads me to my next point. Wireless controllers. They are all pretty much standard on the new consoles and as we know wireless controllers have input lag (even the slightest can be a difference)

  1. 360 Controller
  2. Six Axis/Dual Shock 3
  3. Wiimote and Classic Controller

Another reason why the Gamecube controller is beast for Brawl. Its wired.

A lot of times I hear people complain about Input Lag in Fighters even including Smash Brawl. Hey when you are using wireless controllers you'll get it. When you are playing online via wireless and using wireless controllers you're going to get even worse results.

These games are very precise and common errors can prove the difference between winning/losing.

So for those of you who are using wireless controllers, wireless interent or any combination of the two. How's it working out for you? I've seen all the difference between the two as I have had options to do so. Just trying to scratch some curiosity seeing as how Soul Calibur has just come out.

Which console do you think gets plagued by this issue the most?

its not an issue, you're not pushing fast enough or on time, easy to do even with a wireless controller...

i love how you talk about fighters in a forum where most people have cant really relate lmfao.

i've never suffered from input lag except at arcades where the joystick is beat to crap from years of people playing, then you can hardly pull off any moves.

You realize with input lag that would kind of interfer with you being on time right? Or being precise or exact right? I'm not pushing fast enough lol. Come on now.

Not all big moves are about speed or pushing buttons fast.

Example: Neo Deadly Rave Capcom vs SNK2

I'm not core enough about fighters to buy an arcade pad. I have never noticed any real lag in fighters except online.

I can plug my PS3 controller in and find out :P

And play it on that D-pad?

Does 360 give you the option to use other arcade pads or just a proprietary MS one?

It's really only a problem when your playing against the computer. When you try to do a move and they seem to pull off their combos first you start to get frustrated. When I am playing against other people everyone is on the same field.

Ok, Hori is a respectable brand as far as I know, the name sounds familiar anyway. Is that the only one compatible, or is it made specifically for the 360?

You're only option pretty much is the Hori EX2. You're only other option is to go custom and if you really don't have any clue about Arcade Sticks then I'd just go with the Hori unless you want to learn how to build them. But hey building is fun lol

What about for PS3? I haven't really looked into pads, I don't know if I could be that serious about fighters, they end up pissing me off :P It's all fun in games until the unstoppable CPU AI predicts your every move. I would probably end up breaking a $200 pad. Haha.

You'd have to really try hard to break an Arcade Stick. They are pretty tough.

Hori Stick or The Virtua Fighter 5 Stick are the options for PS3. The VF5 Stick is Gutter Trash though.

You could use this and get a PS1 or PS2 stick though.

I am not aware of any stock sticks. Can you please point some out. I'm sure there are tons of customs as I am using one right now and I've seen 100s of them over at SRK.

There are plenty of Sticks and converter options that give you Zero input lag. So I don't know why you are saying if you're expecting.

I don't use wireless controllers for fighters, period. I have at least one arcade stick for every system I own except Wii and Gamecube. The only fighter I have on Wii is Brawl, and for that I use my Gamecube controller.

I haven't really been having input lag problems on Soul Calibur 4. Part of that could be my novice experience with the genre, the other part could be that im just that good. *Swings around Astaroth's toy hammer with the squeeky sounds*

To be honest, it depends on how forgiving the game is. For example, Soul Calibur on XBLA is fairly forgiving, because even on ultra hard, and input lag that results in a mistake will most likely not cause you to be obliterated by a cheap combo that can take you down 80% of your health without you being able to retaliate or block.

Dead or Alive 4, on the other hand, will annihilate you for even the slightest mistakes at times. See the 100 wins in survival achievement, for example. Its hard enough just keeping on powering through in that game, but when you factor in the lag, it becomes almost impossible at times.

There is nothing worse than seeing an opponent come at you and hitting a button to counter... only to see nothing happen.

Ah, I understand now. I gave you a link at the bottom. Also, I personal think the Virtua High Grade is the best PS3 stick. Hori are popular by name but average in quality. For the 360, I have two custom sticks. One American, One ***/SANWA.

That the Salubi Korean stick. Damn haven't seen or even heard of those in a while. Probably because their buttons are gutter trash. You realize those sticks have always been for PC basically right and it wasn't until about 20 days ago the Saulabi 4K came out which supports PS3.

I didn't know people were still going for Salibu's and Elecoms unless they plan to customize them. So the PS3 would have 4 available arcade Sticks.

Two which would need to be imported. One from Korea and the other from China.

exactly what kind of lag are you talking about? the latency from the controller to the cpu on a modern console is probably in the microsecond range... its long as far as computers are concerned but its RIDICULOUSLY fast on a human timescale...

Even though I'm wired (controller/modem) for fighting games, I just got some major input lag when playing some guy in SCIV a couple minutes ago. :( It really bothers me too, because all he did was the same 3 hit combo over and over again until I was KO'ed. My block came up in between his attacks somehow even though I hit "A" at the exact frame of his movement. My attacks took a few seconds to register as well. I almost beat him the first two rounds though, and somehow managed to the 3rd. He perfected me on the last one because the connection became so spotty.

Frame lag does exist. Forza_2 has shown me video's of different versions of Street Fighter 2 accompanied by different arcade sticks and converters and they count the exact frames a move happens after a button is pressed.

Blackbond

Well..I play on a PS3 wireless controller via wireless connectivity to play online, I have experienced a big input lag problem in SCIV while trying to play with the left stick instead of the D-pad, it is waaaay better to play the cla$$ic way online.

However, I was playing against my brothers today and it was smooth and actually the stick was great to perform moves and combos with.

As for which console get the issues the most, same thing, this is my first online experience in a fighting game for current gen consoles so I don't know about the 360 yet.
