from what ive seen on the internet... ps3 is up to 50 mil... 360 is like 52 mil...

will the ps3 pass it in sales?

and why do you think the ps3 is selling better then the 360?

just my opinion... i thought the ps3 wouldve boomed in sales from the beggining just cuz its sony, they already had a huge fanbase with probly close to 300 million consoles sold before the ps3 even came out

and ya i know its not a big deal... just bored so dont say no one cares and crap like that

As far as I'm concerned it's the battle to be #2 and that's really lame.

ok maybe in the 250 million-ish range? lol

and the numbers are from the interwebs.... idk why people ask that question... no one knows real facts of games

and its not the fight for 2nd place, i dont consider the wii is really on the same level as these 2

so for the people that said no, why do you think that the 360 will stay ahead?

Hmm assuming you mean both PS1 and PS2, I'd say less than that, at the moment the PS2 is at 150m and the PS1 had life time sales of 100m (I got these numbers from wikipedia but I get the feeling they aren't too far off). Going by them numbers I'd say it would be less than 250m and closer to 200m.

I could add the PSP's 20 million (if it even was at that number back then) to a total of 140 million, which is still less then half of the number you gave us

First of all, 250 million is too high still. They got over 100, but nowhere near 250 or 300 million.

you said the sony had a userbase of 300 million, I don't see why you're counting the PS1. By then people had moved on to the next gen or even the one after that, so...yeah still don't see it

The PS3 might have been able to do so with it's great exclusive lineup this year, but after all these PSN issues I doubt it very much.

But since both the PS3 and 360 are so far behind the Wii, it doesn't really mean much.

Dont know, dont care. It may have had some significance in SW a couple of years back, but now it would be too little too late. 360 vs. PS3 has been a good even competition looking back on this gen. Unless the PS3 just blows past the 360 for some reason, I dont think the sales mean much at this point.

The only way this happens is if Sony launches a "budget PS3" at a $199 price point. Then maybe it could close some ground. But considering anyone can go to any store and get a 4 GB XBOX 360 Slim with Kinect for $299 is kind of a tough road for Sony to tread on. As soon as E3 hits and MS announces its Fall/holiday Kinect line up and shows off games like Gears of War 3, Halo CE HD and Forza 4, Sony might be in some real trouble.

If the ps2 sold 300 million...that would be on average in (in just USA) almost 3 a household...or close to one to each person lol.

What is this GREAT exclusive lineup I keep hearing about this year for PS3? I see Uncharted 3 and Killzone3... and.....??? Seriously... am I missing something?

On topic, PS3 doesnt have a hope in hell in catching 360 in sales now... with their current Online Woes... alot of people are PO'd about Sony, and there is going tobe some bad press me thinks. The only way the PS3 sales will remain competitive this year is if we see a price cut.

Pass it or not the biggest loser this gen is PS3.

Lets be honest . Think about it. PSone and PS2 had huge success. A READY fanbase to jump into PS3 where ... never happened. Failed. Extremely high price for a console.DIDNT deliver half of what was hyping itself beforehand. That was

1) --> Graphics beyond anything in the market , 1080p gaming (not even close),in fact first multis were looking better into X360...

2)----> Backwards compatibility ( where they took it off after some time to cut price of new models ,

3)----> 2 years of "mediocre" exclusives ( resistance was nice but nothing to be a console seller period )

4) ---> BD didnt deliver anything major to gaming except that you need now to install some games instead...

5) ---> All this hype about how CPU is extraordinary and will open new horizons to gaming.. Fact is though CELL failed big time since even now most games working on 2 cores. Sony even stopped any furthrer development and production 2 years now to cut further loses .

The list goes on that hit PS3 in the face ( like Major PS exclusives loses etc ) but ill stop here.

With all these problems including high price drive gamers away. I , myself , a huge fan of PSone and PS2 was thinking to buy x360 instead of PS3 for like 3 years. RROD drive me away but still. Hunderds of millions loses from PS3 speak for themselfs. Sony got seriously hurt this gen.

Bottom line is PS3 fans SHOULD NOT bring this up anymore. It makes PS3 look even worse. Be dead third 6 years now , screaming itll surpass second on the race (X360) since 2008/2009 , we got 2011 ... and in the end even if it surpass X360 wheres the win about it? Millions of $$ loses? Not even half customers VS Ps2? Happy it will get second place after 6 years?...

I hope this is a nice lesson to Sony so next gen brings PS back to its throne so ill buy again . Till then ill stick to my PC gaming since consoles this gen ruin it for me for various reasons.

This gen has a year and a half left. Not enough time. Both will continue to sell into next gen though (probably)so who knows. But at the sametime who cares? They both r great consoles and have their ups and downs period.

I personally don't think it ever will, but there will always be a 2-3 million gap between those two.:P It's possible that the PS3 surpasses the 360 after the generation is over, seeing as Sony always supports their system even after their 10 year aim sometimes (PS2), but by the end of the generation, probably not.:?

I can see both of them beasts hitting over 60 or even 70 million units by the end of 2012 or mid 2013 though, which is amazing!:D

what do you mean by 'drastically swapped'? also the PS3 was outselling the 360 when it was much more expensive and had a considerably worse games library.

Outselling WW or by year to year basis? As for availability of exclusives, I think he meant "upcoming".:P

but really is the hacking thing that big of a deal? like i really dont care sony was and still is the best company for electronics (for the money)

but you guys dont realize that the PS3 has always out sold the 360... just saying. so you guys think that the ps3 sales will drop drasticly?

You mean "do you guys think PS3 will pass 360 in sales this year? finally! Volume 5"

I'll go for no but close-ish. There's under 3 mil between the two, even less when Sony's numbers come in soonish. I would put it at 1 mils difference at the years end and a full overtake mid next year. I'll lead the virtual celebration in Home if it's up by then.

Well, PS3 outold 360 by 2.5 million in 2010, even with the redesign, and Kinect, and their biggest franchise getting their best installment, and MS having its best quarter ever...

With the massive first party line-up this year, I wouldnt be terribly surprised to see PS3 closing by another 2.5-3 million. I wouldn't go out on a limb and make any bets about it either way though. When Sony's Jan-Mar numbers come out, we'll have more indication. It also remains to be seen what kind of affect the psn situation is going to have on both consoles second quarter (calendar) sales, or what kind of e3 megatons might get dropped.

the PS3 is slightly outselling the Xbox 360 worldwide, so it'll take at least a couple years at the current rate to outsell the Xbox 360 worldwide, however numbers can fluctuate for various reasons, price drops, new games and accessories, if it's going to pass the Xbox 360 it's going to happen during the holiday season but Sony will have to close the gap in the US for that to happen

Maybe...If it did it would mean nothing it took the thing 5 years to outsell the 360 which is just sad...
