Do you have games you feel like you are obligated to own?

For whatever reason? Say if you are a Sheep and you hate Zelda but you buy them anyway because you feel like you have to have it? Or maybe you buy all of Platnium's games and even though you hate Bayonetta, you keep it because of who made it.

I decided today that I was tired of having a few games in my collection because I felt obligated to have it. I have had Red Dead Redemption GOTY, Batman AC, God of War 3,, Rayman Origins, and Fable 3 and they have sat there for over a month and in a few cases months. I also grabbed Killzone 2, Gears 1 and 2, Kameo, and my retail copies of LBP 2 and infamous 2 today and traded it all in along with my Wii (I finally just decided to get what I could for it).

I basically decided I was tired of having exclusives like Kameo or God of War 3 because I feel like my collection is incomplete without them. I am now down to 2 systems (360 Slim and PS3 Slim) and my computer and got rid of 7 other games including the ones listed.

I have decided I am no longer gonna buy exclusives because they got a high Metacritic rating or because I feel like i need to show the 360 some kind of fanboy love by trying to convince myself I am having fun with Viva Pinata or Alan Wake.

So my question is this:

Do you have any games in your collection you do not play but you will not get rid of? Do you have any that you do not wanna get rid of because you feel strange not having it on the shelf? Do you collect all of Kojima's games because he made it? Let's hear it System Wars! And let's try to keep the trolling out......

I collect games and some of them I'll probably never play.

Nope, rarely do I make the mistake of buying a game I will not enjoy. I'm just awesome like that ;)

It's a perfectly valid topic of discussion and it's a refreshing thread that at least is original, unlike 90% of the ones on here.

On-Topic: Yes there are games I feel obligated to buy, but it has nothing to do with a game being my favorite series, guilt, nostalgia, or any of that. I feel obligated to support developers that put passion into their product, take risks, innovate, and treat their consumer base respectfully. I've felt so obligated with some games, in fact, that I've bought half-a-dozen copies, one for myself and the others I sell each at a slight loss on eBay just so I can give my favorite developers money that they may well not have gotten otherwise from people who want to wait till it's a bit cheaper.

It's rare that I do this (I've done it with both Batman games and The Witcher 2), but when developers put in obvious effort and do something that I think benefits the direction gaming should be headed in, I'll support them as much as I possibly can. Hell if I were rich I'd probably buy hundreds or thousands of copies and sell them at a loss just to give the devs as much $$$ as I can.

There seems to be a few games on each system that is supposed to be in your collection. For instance Cows are expected to have MGS4 and the Uncharted games. I have Uncharted 3 and thats it. I am not a MGS fan and Uncharted games are really scripted. After you get the trophies there is no point in playing it anymore except for the ho-hum multiplayer. I am not really knocking Uncharted as a whole. The ten hours you get in single player is some of the best 10 hours this gen has to offer. But once it is done it's done.

I actually enjoyed every game I bought this gen. Some more then others obviously but I could take some fun from every game I bought/played. Saying this, I still had to sell some games to buy new ones. Now I regret selling some of those... but thats life. I can say, however, that all my collection is made of games I really REALLY enjoyed. I could never sell those but yah, some games I thought were forgettable (but still fun) I had to sell

well, I only beat most of my games once or twice anyway and never touch them again. I only like to keep'em for a collection purpose. But if you dont care about having awesome games in your collection just for the sake of it then there's no reason to keep'em if you're not gonna play'em again

Yeah alot of games. I have a big library in my room here. Example Call of duty. I realy hated MW3 but stil bought it anyway for completing my collection..

On some occasions yes. I have kept some terrible games like resident Evil 5 because I bought downloadable content for it but I will never play that game ever again. The other day I bought F.E.A.R 3 because it was 60% off on Steam and I loved the first one. I have been enjoying the 3rd even though I feel like i shouldnt be. Knowing me I will have to get F.E.A.R 2 just for the whole collection. I have been playing Dead Space 2 on PC asnd loving it to the point where I might buy Dead Space 1 for PC even though I used to own it on 360 and thought it had no replay value..

No. The only games I own are games that I actually enjoy playing.

I'm not like one of those guys who may say things like "You're not a true gamer unless you play Call of Duty."

(Although, I can't help but feel that playing Call of Duty makes you less of a gamer. lol)

The only reason I hold onto and collect games is because I may want to play them again some day. I feel bad for anyone who didn't play Metal Gear Solid 2. Just a random thought.

In general, I'll only buy what I intend to play. But I do have games I've tried, but never finished, yet have hung on to them because I recognize that they're signature titles. These tend to be older games from at least a couple generations back. For instance, I never finished Xenogears because it's so long. I was never good at Marvel vs Capcom 2, but I like having them in my collection. I have a bunch of other games like those, some from my 2600, Genesis, Dreamcast, even PC games.

I felt obligated to buy RED FACTION ARMAGGEDDON.

Because I love the RED FACTION series and I always feel that no one buys their games. (Man, the originals were WAY cooler)

Even though I firmly defended it...I now admit it is the worst in the series.

I have every single Pokemon game (the main series only, thankfully) ever made. Every last one of them. Pokemon Red, Blue, Green (yes, the JPN import), Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, and soon Black 2 and White 2 as well. I've bought a couple of pc games just because you can't get games like them on console only to find out I don't really like them. For isntance Arma 2.

On my PS3 I haven't owned a single Uncharted game. I've only borrowed them.

The halo games...it's a love/hate relationship that I almost always end up regretting.

nba games....I MUST own every year.......maybe its my love for the game of basketball personally

Well, I have only have 360 has my home console (till wii-U comes out, but thats besides the point) and I have no intrest in investing my money in Forza, Fable; on rails, a Kinect, kinect only games, and I am hesitant to get Gears: Judgement ( this is coming from somone who loved Gears 3).
