I tend to have a short attention span when it comes to dialogue in games lol. I just want to get to the gameplay and have fun. Sometimes games like the Witcher and Person can be grueling when it comes to that, but I hang in there. What about you, SW? Do you like games that have a lot of dialogue?

Don't really care if a game is full of dialogues. I read for a living :)

It really depends on what i'm playing, but more and more i've moved away from heavy dialogue. Even in JRPG's, as you start to see the unnecessary lines or character movements that prolong a scene.

Not really, there's exceptions depending on how good and interesting the dialog, voice acting and lip sync is.

It really depends on the game and genre. I am very interested in the things discussed in Metal Gear Solid and Deus Ex and enjoy the talking. Some TellTale games were super fun like Walking Dead, Batman and Borderlands.

Something like Super Paper Mario was extremely wordy and I gave up on it. I also hate insanely long tutorials which plague a lot of games.

I used to love JRPG’s as a kid, but I find them hard to stick with them. Hated Ni No Kuni, but liked Persona 4. Meh lol

Just depends, I like to mix up the games I play so I don't get genre fatigue, sometimes I do like meaty games with story but like an RPG with lots of dialog but if I play one then I'll probably avoid another for a while.

Telltale games and those like it I'm fine playing whenever.

I don’t mind it at all myself in fact I very much enjoy the stories in quite a few of the games that I’ve played. Prefer to have it voiced then to just have to read it though.

Well I love Danganronpa. Don't think it gets much more dialogue heavy than that.

Hate it, skip it if I can.

If I want to read, I'll pick up a book.

Just give me gameplay and I'm happy.

I get annoyed by games that interrupt the gameplay too much for lots of dialog. Dialog in video games is not very good compared to other mediums, so I like for it to be kept to a minimum and focus on the gameplay. When I want to hear dialog, I'll watch a movie; and when I want to read dialog, I'll read a book. Video games should focus on gameplay.

Depends on the game.

Some dialogue is really boring and I just want to get back into the action. It may be my genre of game but not my genre of storyline telling.

I don't mind reading, but if it's speaking it's annoying. Esp if it's crap like Bioware where characters might as well be cardboard boxes with the vague drawing of a face on it smeared from dog shit.

In general yes, but it depends a lot on the quality of the dialogue. Tried out Me:andromeda recently and it was just filled with hopeless boring dialogue, trying to justify all their crappy fetch quests. Was so dull that I had to quit the game 5-10 hours in, was a real shame though as the gameplay itself is quite good...

As long as there's an option to skip it, I don't care. Haven't got the patience to read endless bubbles of speech, and any cutscene dialogue over 30 secs bores me senseless. Put the story in the game, not in bubbles.

I expect lots of dialogue in point and click adventure games and RPGs. There are also action games that behave like RPGs. I guess I expect lots of dialogue in them too. I prefer they be in silent text rather than spoken because they're easier to absorb or cancel out of.

If the dialogue is well written/voice acted & adds to the storytelling (like in Witcher 3 for example), then definitely.

Dialogue ruined Metal Gear Solid 4. I would have much rather had a game five acts long set in Act 1 with little to no dialogue than that retcon disaster.

it depends. There are some NPCs with filler lines, or you might enter some huge city full of npcs and get stressed out ocd about speaking with every last one.

Sometimes I think it's a mood thing, and sometimes I think the dialogue isn't that interesting and want to hurry up and get to the adventuring and fighting.

A good example is a game like WoW. You might get some quests that you take the time to read/watch, and it adds something to the lore that is interesting. Other times it's just more filler and you don't read a thing - just finish the objective.

Cutscenes you can't skip are still annoying.

@SolidGame_basic: I like both. Sometimes I'm in the mood to just blow shit up on a Friday night with a few beers, so I play DOOM, or max payne 3, etc.

On a week night where I need to work, a dialogue heavy game like is perfect for an hour or two before bed.

@SolidGame_basic: I have already pointed out years back how you said u don't like the dialogue and lore spelled out when comparing Bloodborne and Witcher 3 yet you loved uncharted 4. I think you just prefer ps more often than not and pick and choose as it fits. Nothing wrong with it, but a bit inconsistent.

Generally, I prefer it. Most games do it well, but there are some games where it tanks the experience.

no...

I have rather high 'demands' for my story telling so I would rather leave that time for some handful selected TV shows.

Games will never be able to match good quality high drama

Generally not, but it depends. I played through all of Horizon skipping through 95% of the dialogue.

I like visual novels, which have tons of dialogue.

But when it comes to action games, I'd much rather prefer little-to-no dialogue.

As long as the text isn't overly long and boring, I don't mind. I prefer reading dialogues rather than listening to a voice actor actually.

As always it depends on the game and how well it is implemented. If you take the Duck Tales Remake for example, it shows how not to add dialogue to your games. Other games, like the recently released "The longest five minutes", offer well written dialogue that's actually fun to read.
