Id have to go with Sci-Fi. I love Sci-Fi stuff. I really dont like Medieval stuff at all although I know alot of people LOVE it. The setting was the only thing keeping me from trying out Skyrim but im gunna get it anyway.... I wished I did like Medieval setting though because then I'd probably have alot more games to look forward too lol.

Please dont say both. There is no point of me asking which one you like most if you are just going to say both....

Sword fighting is the most fun(The Witcher 2, Dark Souls), so I'm going with Medieval.

It depends. I can like both of they create unique worlds.

I can also hate both if they staunchly follow genre stereotypes.

Out of the two: Sci-Fi.

For some reason, anytime a game features an western medieval art-style with minotaurs, dragons and all, I'm reminded of all the the cheesy fantasy book covers from the 60's. There are exceptions to this however like the Legend of Zelda series, which have influences from most world cultures pre-renaissance.

I can't choose, honestly.

It depends on how creative a dev can get.

I love the futuristic vision of Final Fantasy XIII, but I also love the fantasy setting of The Witcher. I also love the post-apocalyptic settings of games like Bastion and Fallout: New Vegas (but not Fallout 3 because that game sucks).

I've decided not to try and compare each genre. If I see something good I'll like it, if it's not good I'll dislike it.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Medieval is good too. Not a big fan of present settings and even less of the 19th-20th centuries.

But I think the whole concept of liking one thing better than another is kind of messed up. I like alot of fantasy and sci fi. It's hard to say one is simply "better" than the other. Because I don't enjoy art and things on a scale like. "oh this gave me eh about 9 pleasure where as that only gave me 2 pleasure". I find it odd people can even compare these things this way.

I honestly don't see a proper comparison. Sci-Fi is such a broad genre whereas medieval is just a specific period.

I don't know. It really depends on the movies and books that I see before hand that interest me. If I watch an awesome Sci-Fi movie then most likely I would want a Sci-Fi game, if I watch an awesome medieval movie than most likely I want a medieval game.

Also, it would be awesome if Bethesda made a Sci-Fi The Elder Scrolls kind of game. :D

I like Sci-fi. Its less the actual setting and more that devs seems to deal with more believable dilemas than they do in medieval games. I also like crap to make sense. I can't wait to play Skyrim, but magic, although a good gameplay mechanic, isn't as good as biotics because one.... makes sense. Its a stupid reason, but I like Sci-fi better regardless.

What games do that?

Older Final Fantasy games, Ultima series (for chuckles, mostly).

Medieval worlds, touches of high technology here and there, like accents.

Sci-fi, I think you get alot of freedom there. I mean you can make some polar opposites here like Bioshock vs Mass Effect.

It really all sepends, bt I guess medieval. Medival just has some many good ways to do it right, while there are very few good scifi examples I like. Scifi I like: The Jetsons, Fallout, Futurama, twilight zone, ironman star trek. The kind where they do not bog you down with a science lecture and get right down to the tech, aliens, and space adventure. But medieval even dudes just sitting around a round table talking is awesome, and although I never could get into lord of the rings medieval movies have always been more entertaingg then scifi imo.

I love them both, so whichever I'm in the mood for. Lately I've been on a fantasy RPG kick so I guess I'll vote for medieval. Maybe that's part of the reason I loved Nier so much, because it was a sort of combination of both.

Sci-Fi. Just loook at Mass Effect...
.
Medieval tends to be generic because they focus to much in the same timeframe and location, feudal western europe. They should add other mix like antiquity and eastern cultures.
.
Dragon Age 2, for all the hate it gets, made a very cool move to set the story in a urban setting. A shame that the game wasn't as good as we wanted it to be. Origins in the other hand, had the very standard setting of a medieval fantasy. Even if tryed to be different in other aspects, it wasn't nearly enought.

I like medieval more, but I think sci-fi has more potential that's unused. Everyone goes for the same angular architecture when I think there's a lot more to be explored in a sci-fi futuristic world. Everything doesn't have to be so incredibly wacky IMO, kinda why I liked Firefly (Tv series). Was more like a space western, a little more grounded in things that exist now versus the future.

Scifi for films, fantasy for games. There's far more great scifi films than there are medieval/fantasy films... but there's also very few great scifi games out there while there are innumerous great games that employ the fantasy setting.

I hate lasers and macho sci-fi characters! But on the other hand, I extremely hate elves, dwarfs, and especially magic.

I think considering Bioshock scifi is using a much too broad definition of the word 'scifi'. The game really doesn't contain any of recognizeable tropes of the genre, such as space, aliens, advanced technology, AI, ect.

Sci-Fi usually has more imagination to it as it hasn't happened yet. But medieval is good when it's like Morrowind where it's not copying Tolkein

I guess I prefer sci-fi, there's just a wider scope for what you can do and what direction you can take with sci-fi, which there isn't really with medieval/high fantasy, and hence high fantasy settings tend to suffer from over-familiarity and cliche a lot more than sci-fi settings do. I don't dislike either, however, and whether the game is set in one or the other won't affect my enjoyment of a game.

I really like both but if I had to choose one I would say sci-fi but most specifically cyberpunk.
