Do you like the fact that COD: World at War is back in the WWII setting?

I think the WWII setting in games was great bu tnow its getting a little played out, theres only so much weapons and vehicles you can use. I think it be better if COD went into a future war setting, that way they can actualy get creative and create futuristic weapons and vehicles. Dont get me wrong, i do enjoy WWII games but i think it would be better in in the future.

Indifferent.

My problem with COD is the game-play not the setting, people rip crysis, but game-play wise it is better, COD4 game-play is dated, it's basically done the same thing over and over with every game. I loved the first one, but that was five years ago, change the record.

Think about it this way:

From the 70's to the 90's most people thought, or probably thought, that war movies had been done. That you really wouldn't see anything to breakthrough. But then came Saving Private Ryan. That opening scene changed war movie making forever. And although it was a war already seen before, a battle already seen before, with a story like something you've seen before, it still amazed you at what you were a witness to.

Not saying this next CoD will be as genre changing as Private Ryan. But if they bring the heat, it won't feel like the same old thing.

The game may be awesome. The game even may be GOTY. But its truly frustrating that having taken the franchise two steps forward they are now taking a step back.

A good recent example of this in gaming is Company of Heroes. It took the WW2 setting and did something special with it.

I didn't think CoD3 was that bad, but I don't really think Treyarch is up to the task.

How exactly have they taken it two-steps forward?

The hold by the hand constricted game-play is still there suffocatingly so. The enemy's are still the equivelent of ducks in a barrel. Many sequences like the vehical sequence towards the end are the exact same as COH 2003, You still pretty much go to point A-B, Walk up to glowing objective and press key... All the Vehicle sequences are uncontrollable, the environment'sare not destructible unless scripted, There are invisible barrers ll over the place, You open alot of doors or break certian windows.

How exactly is this two-steps forward? It's friggin call of duty with different skins. The only thing that stands out is the bitter-sweet ending which is excellent.

Funny thing about this issue is that for one Call of Duty has always been the best WW2 FPS series, none of the others can't even compete anymore just look at what became of Medal of Honor. Why the top dog in the genre going back to it being a bad thing is beyond me.

CoD3 and Treyarch, everyone has been groaning about Treyarch coming back because of the job they did on CoD3. Oddly enough if those same people would look at Treyarchs side of the story they would realize why. Activision gave Treyarch 11 month to develop CoD3 from scratch. Given that timeframe its a wonder the game was even as good as it was. Now compare that to World At War which has had a dev period of over two years....

WW2 being overplayed is a moot point. People have been crying this for years though seriously umm when outside of COD and that Medal of Honor spin-off that was on the Wii what WW2 games have even come out this gen? Thats 3 years of Call of Duty the premiere WW2 shooter in the first place being the only WW2 shooter. Thats 2 games in the 3 years people how is that overplayed still. The video game industry took a hiatus from WW2 for awhile and now its going back to it with one game....one game. And it looks to be the best WW2 FPS ever so whats the big deal. Now that Call of Duty has supplanted Medal of Honor as the top WW2 shooter MoH is done flooding the market with a new game every 6 months.

IMO it's a fresh breath of air compared to all the "fighting terrorists in unnamed middle eastern country" shooters.

It's okay, I guess...I'm happy that the "prestige modes" are coming back to multilayer!
