Will we have to wear brain sensors next?

Or just a smaller redesigned Wiimote?

With both the Wii remote itself and Wii Motion Plus, what we've been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.- Shigeru Miyamoto

So far all fingers are pointing to motion controls.. It's a sad thing really but I guess this is just the Nitnendo we are gonna have to learn how to get used to. Me being a old school Nintendo guy it's kinda hard to take in.

Sure, they are a different company, than 5 years ago, but that's okay.

They still make great games...they just also have a nongamer audience to cater too. It's like having a favorite uncle get married. He's still around, but he's busy. When he does visit though, oh boy!

I'm an old-school Nintendo fan too and I can appreciate what they are doing. Ninty is the only company it seems willing to try things differently.

That would be awesome if they did that.. But i'm pretty sure the chances of that happening are very slim.

I never gushed over ninty but I did like a lot of their games and always had tremendous respect for them. This gen i'm bordering on cold indifference and respect has almost hit absolute zero. A good healthy dose of Starfox could get them back on track in my eyes though. :)

Besides a few games, Nintendo have made me rather unhappy with them.
Edit: As far as the Wii is concerned atleast. I am happy with the games coming out on the DS.

For real, you'd say that they aren't focusing on the Metroid/Zelda crowd? They've already released 1 Metroid game that was well reviewed and they are working on another. The same goes for Zelda. By 2010, there will be 3 Mario platformers on the system, which is tied for the most that they've ever had on a system. How are they not focusing on Metroid/Zelda gamers by creating multiple AAA quality Metroid and Zelda games? I don't grasp that concept.

You know they actually have devices on the computer you can wear that lets you feel like you're accelerating and whatnot by sending your brain signals? Pretty neat idea as long as you don't get motion sickness.

To be honest it's not wether or not I like Nintendo as a company or the direction they're going with the remote sensing technology or any of that. This is about the games. After all that's why we buy consoles in the first place isn't it? And that's why I'm disappointed with Nintendo. With the Wii they introduced a new concept with tons of potential. They promised a new way to play and they were right with one exception- By-and-large the games suck. They suck bad. And they suck because Nintendo didn't give us a cutting-edge system. All the fanboys out there say "graphics don't make a game fun" and they're right but neither do remote pointers. Nintendo needs to improve the motion-sensing concept and give us a new system which boasts full multi-media compatibility, a hard drive and HD technology. They missed the boat with the Wii and the games have suffered. The best game yet has been the Metroid Prime Trilogy which features 2 gamecube remakes. If they want me to buy there next console they need to be able to gain better 3rd party support and stop makingjunk min-games and sequel after sequel after spinoff after spinoff. And by-god if you're gonna have a motion pointer I want an amazing FPS!

Indeed. Games are crap without super real life graphics and full HD support. I was imagining having fun playing Mega Man 3 on the NES the other day.

That's not quite was getting at but I can see why you may have thought I was. I think the graphics matter because the modern developers are into creating games with the modern HD technology. I think they haven't put much effort by-and-large into making quality Wii games for this reason. They see that they can make more money with a junk mini-game knockoff instead of a great FPS because they believe that the Wii fanbase is made up of people that will buy those titles. In that regard, graphics matter.

I feel most games these days rely on flashy graphics instead of actual depth and good gameplay. I personally prefer gameplay.

They still have the 'hardcore' releases, I don't see why there's such a melodramatic backlash.

I love how the Wii is saving local multi-player.

That's a great point actually. I think I can honestly say I'm a little disappointed in the entire industry and not just Wii or Nintendo. I can remember playing games over and over again and never getting bored or feeling like I wasn't part of the experience. Lately the only games that made me feel like that are Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Aside from those games and a few others I just beat a game once and move on.

For handhelds, yes. The DS is like the best thing to have happened to gaming in a long long time.

For consoles, no. *sigh* How I miss the days of the GCN and the N64...

This...and hey. well for me personally, nintendo started sucking bad after the snes.... when they no longer had 3rd party support and rpgs... plus the over emphasis on "family oriented games"... but this last gen has been the final straw.. abandoning hardcore gaming almost compleltly with a last gen system and powerglove shaped like a stick...

Exaggerations on both ends aside, thankfully we have the options for different kinds of gaming experiences. We can choose one side of the fence, the other, or both. Choices are great.

Which is exactly the point in time i really stopped caring for them... their first party titles were great back in the 8bit and 16bit days... mario , and zelda, metriod, kid icarus, Mike Tyson's punchout (you know when they had a real champ as the final boss!!) were great, but the 3rd party support was where it was at.. great titles like contra, mega-man, crystalis, star tropics, even wrpgs like might and magic and ultima were on the nes and snes...they had the rpg support , square and others were making real rpgs, not cut down kid stories like they are now for the wii... compare the ff games on wii to the 8bit /16bit ones they suck. Mario and Zelda Lost a lot of their charm over the year for me! Too many games over that time. I likes mario the best in Super Mario bros. 3... It' pretty sad that the best zelda experience lately will not be coming from them but from a 3rd party company called From Software making a exclusive on the ps3 called 3d-dot heroes.

Not really. I'd prefer the older controllers and some more platformers. We'll see if the next Zelda is the ultimate Zelda game. They could also make some new IPs every once in awhile (that are successful).

but when nintendo delivers like with excite bots or sin and punishment 2 they just shun the games delivering the perfect message to nintendo

just abandon the hardcore and focus on the casuals

I think they are the same in fact this gen for the Wii they put out more core titles in the first 2 years then they did through the whole GCN (Well it feels like they did). They also are still making great games on both systems they are also making new IPs like Monado, Cosmic Walker, Dynamic Slash, and Line Attack Heroes. But that isn't saying much since they make New IPs all the time people just ignore them.

The new Nintendo is the reason I'm still playing new videogames nowadays. I'm mostly a social and arcade gamer, and that's the sort of material Nintendo is focusing on. As a customer, I couldn't be happier (discounting the fall 08 - spring 09 game drought, of course. That was really bad.) .

Sure, they are a different company, than 5 years ago, but that's okay.

They still make great games...they just also have a nongamer audience to cater too. It's like having a favorite uncle get married. He's still around, but he's busy. When he does visit though, oh boy!

best explination I've seen yet. There's still a little "old nintendo" left in them.

Nintendo pumps out good games. And you realize that every console excepts any type of game that isn't AO? The 360 and Ps3 get crap games too. It's just that the Wii gets the most of it because it's easier to make games with. And they used 'gimmicky motion' controls with the power glove.

Nintendo hasn't change much at all. Their games have always been more towards kids or the family. It's just when people grow up, they want them to grow up with them. Nintendo is the only company that cares about the future set of gamers.

Make the motion controls optional and use a standard controller and I will love you again Nintendo!

I think everyone who has posted here for the past year should know my position on Nintendo by now. No. I do not like the new Nintendo, I think they aren't trying to be "different" like the illusion of their non-gaming appeal (which is misconstrued as "everyone") is making them... but actually just the "same" (i.e. delivering quality games to hardcore live/eat/breathe-Nintendo fans and the casual audience) and not trying to branch out into new core markets and appeal to the crowds of gamers they've never hooked.

I used to be a pretty big Nintendo fan... but have had many outs with them over the past little while. They just can't seem to move on past all their traditional game types (Mario, Zelda, Metroid plot, character, world progression) and into more focused types (i.e. a narrative-focused Zelda, a M-rated "adult-oriented" RPG Metroid, etc.) that more fall in line with the kinds of games being produced today, that appeal to gamers like myself.

Granted, they just want to make money it seems... and not actually try to make everyone happy.

for all the flack the GameCube got....I enjoyed it more than the Wii.....and enjoyed the N64 more than the GameCube......and enjoyed the SNES more than the N64......In other words, I miss the old nintendo. The Wii just doesn't do it for me.

This...and hey. well for me personally, nintendo started sucking bad after the snes.... when they no longer had 3rd party support and rpgs... plus the over emphasis on "family oriented games"... but this last gen has been the final straw.. abandoning hardcore gaming almost compleltly with a last gen system and powerglove shaped like a stick...

yeah i guess you missed out on all this innovation by nintythen:

1. 3d gaming

2.considered by many the 2 games with the best story(LoZ:OOT,MM)

3. doubling the amount of gamers.

4.2 screens on a handheld

5. touch screen with a handheld.

6.motion controls.

need i go on? oh, and what do you call games like SMG,MPT,LoZ:TP, and the upcoming:SMG2, M:other m, zelda wii?

they doubled the amount of gamers:| and you always seem to use this"ninty's not mature enough for me" well sorry, but there are way more"less mature" gamers out there than you.

I'm an old-school Nintendo fan too and I can appreciate what they are doing. Ninty is the only company it seems willing to try things differently.

Nice. Somebody has some common sense in here after all!
