Their answer will be "no" for the most part. Its just how it is.
But even as I nintendo person, I miss Hotel Dusk as it is pretty much the one and only like it. Sick of ace attorney as there are 4 or 5 now? that are all the same. Prof layton is good and waiting for the next. Never got into trace memory.
So I either miss them or am sick of em. 1/4 satisfaction.
i just hate how the xbox generation doesnt know what a adventure game with a stylus, wiimote, or mouse is likedarth-pyschosis

Sadly. They just need to find a home on the Ds in more numbers than there is. Its the perfect platform for them.

I think you missed his point.
Well, the genre never was strong on consoles to begin with, so I doubt they miss it. And even if they do, well, there is currently a huge ressurection of the genre happening on PC (leagues beyond anything Wii and DS are doing) and most of those games can be pretty much played on any modern PC, so if they sometimes feel the need for adventure game, they can satisfy it even with their e-machinesAdrianWernerOh it was very strong in consoles. Just not in the west. I don't think most people here would have an idea of the amount of Adventure games that have always been released in Japan.
In my opinon comparing western Adventure games vs. Japanese serves no purpose, they're more than often are totally different in concept. Even if we would argue about them, that's what the Japanese consider Adventure games.
Japanese adventure games are becoming more popular nowadays outside of Japan, that's why people are now starting to notice them, but it has always been a popular genre.
So no, I don't miss the genre, because it never left to begin with.

Well, he obviously meant the american market. I mean fighting is also very strong genre on PC in Japan, most people here have no idea of the ammount of PC fighters that have been released in JapanI feel bad for anyone who says no because it probably means that they have never played a good adventure game.laughingman42
Like The Longest Journey, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, King's Quest 6, Space Quest 5, Return to Zork,.....

Considering that genre is much better and popular on PC I don't even know why "Nintendo guys" rave about them so much.foxhound_foxActually there are way far more adventure games on consoles in Japan only that there are on PC.
But even on consoles, Nintendo systems were always dead-last in the genre for their fanboys to be raving about them now indeed.
Somehow I doubt that.Actually there are way far more adventure games on consoles in Japan only that there are on PC.

[QUOTE="Panzer_Zwei"]Somehow I doubt that. And it's not even a contest really. I'm talking about 3x, 4x times the amount difference.Actually there are way far more adventure games on consoles in Japan only that there are on PC.
AdrianWerner
The Dreamcast alone got like 20+ adventure games. The Saturn easily over 50. A big bunch of my Turbo Duo games are adventure games.
And that is just to mention few consoles which weren't even popular outside of Japan.
Like I mentioned before, Adventure games in Japan have always been on an amount level that most people here don't realise.

And more on consoles, but unlike the PC, they're just aren't all for the same system. But you can mix the releases of all consoles together and you see the difference.Basically, every low-budget dev in Japan almost always makes adventure games.
you know...techicay visual novels also count as adventure games and most of time there are more of those being released in Japan for PC each year than there are games for all consoles combined :)Basically, every low-budget dev in Japan almost always makes adventure games.

And I would like to see the release lists of those japanese adventure games

I'd say you'd fine a fair few more adventure games on the PC, there are fewer barriers to entry for low budget developers.
That and the fact you can find non-commercial adventures games all over the internet.
Non-commercial fan-made games would be the only advantage of the PC. Since homebrew on consoles have always been minimal.I'd say you'd fine a fair few more adventure games on the PC, there are fewer barriers to entry for low budget developers.

But for commercial releases I've no doubt at all that consoles come on top.

I have extreme doubts. As I said releasing something on the PC is so much cheaper and less regulated. That and the European and US markets were larger than the Japanese one, equaling more demand.
Sadly that's really all we've got to go off here.
Kinda off topic but as a very former nintendo fan (last ninty console was the SNES) i'd like to see a new donkey kong game, something like donkey kong 3 not those other kart racing spin-off BS's.
EDIT: I mean Donkey Kong Country 3
But it really doesn't matter much. Take RPGs for example. Ialso have high doubts there are more commercial RPGs on PCs than on consoles. Seeing that the amount of RPGs that never left Japan is unbelievable, despite how bigger the US and EU markets are.I have extreme doubts. But the homebrew market is a totally different animal since they aren't official "releases". For say, I could write a story then release it myself as a text-based adventure, and I guess that would count towards the list. But I'm talking about the games that you could go and buy at the store, or at the devs website if you will.
most of those games can be pretty much played on any modern PC, so if they sometimes feel the need for adventure game, they can satisfy it even with their e-machinesAdrianWerner
When will you hermits ever learn from piracy?
Its so weird to see how low the the adventure genre has fallen from the glory days of Sierra/LucasArts, don't get me wrong the Ace Attorney games aren't bad, but they pale compared to the classic adventure game, but yeah I do miss them.
Space Quest 4 was the first game I played and, is still my all time favorite game. I would love Vivendi to bring the old Sierra team and make one last game in their respective series, especially a Kings Quest and Space Quest.
I wouldn't mind a new Monkey Island either, but with LucasArts hell bent in making crappy Star Wars games I really cant see that happening, especially since they don't even have to courtesy to make a KotOR 3.

Huh? What do you mean?
I have huge doubts though. Is there any place to see how many of those were released in...say 2007 or in 2008?But for commercial releases I've no doubt at all that consoles come on top.

Adventure Games:
You are locked in a room. To the east is a window, to the north is a door.
use "rock" on window> Why Would you do that?
Use "Hammer" on Window> You can't use that with that.
Use "9mm" on Window> You can't use that with that.
Use "9mm" on door lock> Why would you do that?
Use "Hammer" on door> You can't use that here!
Use Lemonade on door > The door opens!
There is a gaurd at the end of the hallway.
Use "9mm" gaurd> You can't do that here.
Use "Saliva" on outlet> The buildings electrical power surges. The plane lights on the outsid of the building go out. 1 week later, a Building inspector arrests the gaurd, and gives him a 25 dollar ticket.
Leave Building> What?
Leave Hallway> What?
Look> You are in a hallway.
Exit hallway> What?
Exit Building> What?
exit through door> Not valid. Click the ? for help.
Throw 9mm at vase> the vase topples, and a fleet of trained circus ants remove you from the building!
YOU WIN!!!

DS- i would like to play those games
wii- those games suck.
but, i don't really care enough to buy either one of those.
To be honest never really cared muh for them. They seem to be more story oriented and I'm not the guy who looks for a story in a game. Game could have the crappiest story ever and I'll enjoy it if the game play is up to par.
Also those games were mostly on PC. And I for one didn't have a PC til about 1999/2000. Parents couldn't afford one before. So if I had to go to a PC cafe to play PC games, one player games were not what I was looking for since I always went in a group with friends. We always Played CS or WC III.
DS: hotel dusk, ace attorney series, professor layton, trace memory wii: zack & wiki, strong bad, sam & max do you guys like a good point and click adventure game? i do (what genre does trauma center fall under?)darth-pyschosisNo I don't. I have no interest in games like those. I have and love my DS, but still have no interest in these games.
