I used to simply trade my games in or sell them on eBay when I was done with them. I used to get rid of my old consoles and the games on it too.

BUt then I decided to stop, and now I never sell my games (unless I really dislike it) because I want to collect them.

Heck, I even went to the store and bought plenty of PS2 games that I missed out on. I also now rebuy them, and all my other sold games so I can have them in my collection.

Do you do the same SW? I recently bought some of the older FF games on PS2 that I sold. I'm going buy the J&D series on PS2 that I've never played....although I can't see myself doing a full playthrough of them any time soon. :P

What do you do, SW? What do you think of it?

I wouldn't say I collect them, but I do buy older games quite often :) Of course I like my PC way more, and like to be able to chat with people, and listen to music while I play, so I've started doing certain things to play my collection of old games on a newer machine

Now all my old games are just sitting under my bed except for this copy of NBA Jam which is sitting in this Sega Genesis, and obviously my copy of Rayman 2 which I keep close to my heart

I figure if I was a collector I'd want my walls lined with all these games, and to tell the world how much of a gamer I am! But you know? If they were gone tomorrow I might only cry a little bit :P

I usually just buy games new and keep them. I only take them back if I really hate them. This gen it has only been Prototype, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, and Prince of Persia 2008

I usually keep a game I've enjoyed so that I always have a playable version on hand (in case I ever want to spin it up again). Games I've disliked, however, I have no second thoughts selling or simply discarding. Consoles, on the other hand, I always keep for collective reasons. :)

Yeah I've been collecting for several gens now. I rarely buy DD games because I like to see the physical copies on my game shelves. And trading games in is just like throwing money down the toilet.

I have only ever traded in games once and that was this year and they were the crappy games I got with my psp, I have a big game collection dating back to my sinclair spectrum for which I own over 80 games :?. I have offered to sell them to make space but my wife won't let me because she thinks it would upset me later down the road .

As anyone who actually knows me on this board knows I'm a huge video game collector of modern games. This generation alone between the PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP & PC I have over 1,200 games.

Some of my collection can be viewed below but the pictures are old.

I would call bull. However I don't know you at all and I don't like being proven wrong.

Anyway, I traded in some games when I was younger however I stopped the moment I made the foolish decision to trade in Pokemon Snap.

Somewhat on games; not so much on consoles, though. I mean...I don't go out of my way to buy a rare, expensive game unless it's one that I really want to play - but I do keep all my games, so I've amassed a decent collection over the years.

Not always. A full refund is a different story. Also, is it strange that I buy old PS2 games that I very rarely play but want on the shelf?

I've had this dilema for a long time. I really got into gaming in 2002 when I bought an xbox and then months later bought a PS2. I had a bunch of games for each of them. I've even traded in the consoles and bought them back multiple times while wasting money. I just missed the games and hardware so much that I wanted them back. I eventually wound up not having anything from last gen but a few games like Halo, DOA 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Devil May Cry boxed set remaining in my collection now. My current line up of stuff is a 360 and PS3 with most of my games on 360. I've traded in games from this get as well but I am going to be more selective of what I buy so I don't have to do that. I love both these consoles but if multiplat games ran just as well on PS3 as they do 360 I'd probably only own a PS3 since it has the added bonus of Blu-Ray. Another good thing about this gen are "collections" that are coming out. I just heard about the Tomb Raider collection of the three latest games which I currently own on my 360 but having it all on one PS3 disc is pretty attractive. I may be trading in stuff again. All in all I want to hold onto my favorite games that have replay value to me like, GTA 4, Bayonetta, RE 5, Batman AA, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, etc, etc.

As the case with a lot of posts up here, I wouldn't consider myself a collector, its just that I love videogames, and have since I was a kid, and played the Sega Master System. I've kept every system that I owned and now I still have a Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, 32X add-on(only a few games for it),Jaguar, Gamecube, SNES, 360,PS3 and PS2. I still would like to add a Neo Geo,3DO, PS1, and NES. I'm turning my garage into a game room and I plan on hooking up the old systems to a regular CRT tv, so it will keep that retro feel, and hook up the next gen consoles to the flat panel. So I think it's best to play all the great games across all the great platforms, because each one has at least a few great titles that are worth experiencing. That's why it is hard coming up here on SW and debating your loyalty to a preferred console. I'm not really loyal to one or the other, I just have console preferences, and that's what fuels the debates I guess.

I collect both consoles and games. Much more than just that, I love some of the artwork that comes with them. Have some 2500 games, own most consoles, and even have some Arcade PCBs in my collection. I never sell.

i wasnt aware people even did this. Do most gamers sell their games once they're done?

I keep every single game unless its utter crap. I especially would never get rid of my old games (too much nostalgia)

Yeah, I don't think it is ridiculous if you want to spend your $$ on as many games as you like. That's what we work for isn't it? Take care of our family and purchase things that we want. I think as long as you make 30,000 to 40,000 a year you could pretty much buy a couple games a week, just depending on where your at , and the cost of living.

I do consider myself a collector of some sorts.

I mostly either collect artisticly impressive games or based on who the developer was.

usually when i buy good games that i really like, i tend to check out the developers who made them and see if they made any other games. So i usually collect their other games aswell.

This has happend with many games. After i played okami i became a fan of clover, so i went out and bought their other games, like god hand. Then when clover went bankrupt and the members of it left and made platinum games, i started buying their games. Bayonetta and Vanquish.

Same happend with Retro Studios, Level 5 and Grasshopper manufacturer

Yup. Still have (well, most of :P) my PSone games, some N64 ones and a few Gameboy ones as well. Man, I flipped out when I realized how much people are willing to pay for a mint condition of some of these games :o.

Considering there are no "kiddy" games of any kind in my collection, the answer would be no. Also, where did you get this idea that in a thread about gamers collection you'd only see people with small or moderate sized collections? I'd like to know that and would recommend for you to be less of an rude person.

[QUOTE="IceBlazerX"][QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"] I spend that much money on games because it's been a hobby of mine for many years and I enjoy collecting things. Well yeah, no one buys my games but me so, I'd have to have a good income.godzillavskong
It's called a hobby ;) and besides you can get games dirt cheap if you know how.

Exactly, I won't say how much I make but it's more then enough to support essentials and my gaming purchases. My gaming collection isn't even that big compared to many of the gamers who are 30+ years old I've seen on various forums lol.

What do you find it funny if older guys have a lot of games? I have around 150 PC games & I'm 27, do you find that weird?
