I vastly prefer single player gaming experiences, because they have greater depth. Multiplayer is just a side mode to me, where other people are required to play, and what are you doing? 10 minute matches over and over again? That gets old FAST, and it's repetitive. I have PS3 and free online, but I never play Resistance or MotorStorm online, because there's not enough depth. No story development or progression. The only multiplayer games that I ever enjoyed were Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Party games, etc. But overall, I can't wait for games like MGS4, FFXIII, Ratchet & Clank Future, Lair, Heavenly Sword. All promised to be AAA gaming experiences for a single player. I guess I'm just jaded from multiplayer gaming in general.

For the 360 I have to have both. The online is expected to be good for XBL and it is. For Wii...just the single player, it will never have a good online system.

It depends on the game/community. While singleplayer can provide amazing and involving experiences, multiplayer can give you fun with friends with a hit to the story and involvement. Overall, it depends on a game. For a game like oblivion, multiplayer would have ruined it, while singleplayer is terrible for games like unreal tournament and battlefield.

Multiplayer's appeal is in the unpredictability of your opponent.  Though AI is getting better by leaps and bounds every generation, if you play single player long enough, you'll recognize predictable patterns in your computer opponents.

Single player. Single player ganes allow for much more depth, story telling and a sense of accomplishment. Sure multiplayer is fun (especially with friends in the room), but its very short term stimulus. In single player you have continuous story, level design and other game elements not available in multiplayer modes. When you accomplish something in single player, the next time you boot up the game, your previous accomplishments come instantly into play. Multiplayer, maybe you'll have some sort of game stats but that's usually it. Co-op is probably the best kind of multiplayer, but not many deep single player games can support it.

I prefer single player since I can get good stories, characters and more out-of-the-ordinary gameplay styles. I do still like a bit of multiplayer every now and then though: games like Soldat, Counter-Strike, Gears of War and Halo 2 are all stunning online games which you just couldn't replicate offline. I am definitely interested in that new PC game Cross Over which is bridging the gap between the two.

It's too close to call for me. It depends on what game it is and what aspect of play it focuses on. For shooters, it would obviously be multiplayer because that is what they usually focus on and playing with friends is one of the most fun things you can do when you play video games in my opinion. That's why I prefered Xbox over the PS2 last gen. But for RPGs like Kotor, Fable, and the Elder Scrolls, it would be single player obviously because that is what it focuses on and there usually isn't a multiplayer for those kind of games. But then again, there are exceptions, like Neverwinter Nights, where I have more fun online playing with other people.

I guess it just depends on your favorite genre, but it's really hard to choose for me. I have so much fun with RPGs, but I think of all of the times I've had playing something like Halo 1 and 2 with my friends and the amount of fun I've had with them. It's just too hard to choose.

It all depends on what developers put more time into.

It's all in the game. While some games have tacked on multiplayer which is about as much fun as watching paint grow, other games are centered on the multiplayer. Games like Battlefield 2142 that have no single player are a ton fun when you're playing with 63 othe people online. Then there's all the MMO's which I love because you're not isolated by yourself, you're with a comunity of people. It's hard to say, but more often than not, I prefer multiplayer.

I like my games to have a good single player experience but after thats over and beatin I usually dont go back and play it again.  So having a good single player game is great and all but as far as replay value goes for me I prefer online multiplayer.

It soley depends on the style of the game. A game like Riddick is obviously better as a single player game. But, for the most part, I enjoy single player games. There are too many jerks online, and I hate gamers' attitudes online.
