I feel that online sales has its place, but I'm am strongly agaisnt it all going digital with no box retail. I believe a happy mix is the perfect solution, similar to the mixed market we have now?
Thoughts?

You crazy? Have you even seen Tron? Apart from the cool outfits the place is a nightmare!
Going All digital? No, I would prefer if all games you could buy in stores also could be bought digitally, at the same day and date.
Hell no. If it was for me, we'd still have full size card board boxes with awesome manuals and other goodies inside.
Good old times.
I used to be hardcore against the idea but now I dont really care. Its not like we get awesome box art and manuals and maps the way we used to anyways.
Yes I would love that for a few reasons:
1) Game titles are always available for download.
Stores could possibly not have the game you want.
2) You can always redownload the game for free.
Discs could get damaged and therefore you would have to buy a whole new copy of the game.
3) Easy access.
If they are installed on your console/computer you just have to click on the game and off you go.
4) Game sharing
On the PS3 this is possible and I love it. My brother buys games and I get them for free and vice versa.
The only thing I am willing to go all digital on would be PC. If consoles went all digital, then I would just stop buying consoles.AmazonTreeBoa
My thoughts, exactly.
HELL NO!!! The day I can't own a physical copy of any game is the day I play nothing but games already released. I do play some digital games now, but I will not continue to pay full price for games I will truly never own! I am a game collector, and the idea is sickening.... :(
DD is more practical. I have around 150 games on steam. I definitely would not want 150 game cases layin around the houseBPoole96
That to! I hate "mess".

You are not aware of the joy of stacking your games in alphabetical order? :oeven if we all want physical copies, there is what we call disc rot. even if you take care of your physical discs, due to the chemical composition of the discs channging through time, the discs will be unreadable. the only way to preserve the discs is for them to remain unopened(air-tight). even then, there's still a very slight possibility of disc rot.
PS1 and PS2 discs are susceptible to scratches, and that alone can cause disc rot. if you try to search online, there are some Blurays today (though mostly movies) that are already "rotten".
and that's why cartridges are better. although cartridges, in time, will also rot. not trying to be all-scientific here, but cartridges will be, someday, ever imagined why fridges differently vary in terms of magnet? some fridges the north end of the magnet will stick, and in some the south end of the magnet will stick. it's because the fridges, most of the time stay in one place, orient themsevles with the magnetic field of the earth. so if a fridge has always been facing North for about 5 years, its front door will attract the south end of a magnet. you can think of cartridges the same way. the magnets inside of it will soon degrade one way or another through time, since electrons can change as well. that's why it's good to have a ROM backup.
in essence, everything will rot, including Digital Download, but more likely it will rot slower. so even though i prefer a physical copy, i know it will not last forever.

Although you couldn't pay me to do that with the 100+ games I have on Steam if they were all boxed copies :P
i get most of my games thru steam, with how bad stores are gettin at stocking games for pc...DD is the way to go, imo...i dont see why consoles wouldnt want to follow in suit...just my 2cent

yea i dont see a problem with this. though the cons would be sharing with people, not a high enough internet speed, you lose all of your stuff if your account gets banned(though i doubt that would happen unless you're an ass)and maybe that the 3 console publishers of restrictions on what could digital prices be. however, i would say the pro's out weigh the cons in this case.I don't want it, but I know its only a matter of time till it becomes the standard.
Look at the positive side. Gamers can save more money and at the same time developers can make more money. Win/Win situation.
I'll miss owning physical copies though.

Yes I would love that for a few reasons:

I came to say this. DD is the future, I don't want all the crummy, large packaging games come in laying around, and worrying about finding the box for the CD key code, etc. Just put everything on Steam already...
If I'm allowed to make a physical backup of all the contents(limited DRM control) within the download, to a single disk? I personally wouldn't care, seeing as I've still have access to the game regardless.
Otherwise? I still think I'd like the option of physical purchases, if even from the publisher themselves.

Nearly every game on steam you can get aphysical copy 5-10GBP cheaper off Amazon.
I recently bought Far Cry and Far Cry 2 on Steam for $2.50 a piece. Go ahead and find me where you can buy a new retail version of Far Cry 2 on Xbox 360 or PS3 for $2.50.[QUOTE="Newhopes"][QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]lolwatStevo_the_gamer

Thats the standard price not sale price 9.99GBP on steam.
So roughly ~$10? Close to $2.50 but no cigar.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Far-Cry-2-PC-DVD/dp/B00403LY80/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1341504317&sr=8-3

I do, as a major Steam user I prefer it that way.
More like $4 for the game itself plus shipping costs... so to be anal, roughly $7.03. That's cheap. But not as cheap as Steam deals. ;)2.50GBP=$3.
