I actually do. They've invested in some really great franchises. Battlefield, Titanfall, Starwars, Mass Effect. I also really liked Dead Space back in the day. This publisher used to get a lot of hate. But I think they've redeemed themselves. What do you think, SW? Are they OK in your book?

I respect the sheer depth and breadth of their catalog. I do not respect or approve of the company itself.

@SolidGame_basic:

They sucked in the 360/PS3/PS4/Xone era.

But during the SNES-PS2 days they were on the top of their game.

They've made some really dumb choices, helped normalise some poor business practices and ruined/killed some great franchises. but, when it comes down to it, they still publish some good games, on the PC side of things there are relatively few bad ports, and they are one of the only major publishers not to jump on the remaster bandwagon.

Origin is a decent service as well.

at this point, I'd say I respect them more than Ubisoft or Activision which seem like the most comparable companies.

Recent games such as SW Battlefront and Battlefield1 seems to be fine. I'm Ok with Mass Effect series.

No I don't respect EA their one step away from shovelware. I rarely buy anything with EA's name on it. Bioware's golden days ended with Mass Effect 2. I have very little hope we'll get a decent Star Wars game out of EA. I don't care about their sports titles either.

EA Activision and Ubisoft are all shit.

They used to be on my shit list back when they were doing things like killing Westwood and Ultima, but these days they're merely okay in my book. They do need to learn the meaning of the word "sale," though.

Not a chance. They've gotten behind some of the worst consumer policies of all time. It's like respecting someone who literally wants to rob you.

I respect them more than Ubisoft. EA learns from their mistakes and tries to make a better game with their next installment. Also, great quality control for online games. They also give out free games and free DLC from time to time.

Ubisoft has been releasing unfinished trash lately with a crap load of editions for a game. Not to mention the recycled formula they use for most of their AAA games.

Everybody gets judged by their next project in this industry. They had a good 2016... Lets hope it ls a trend that continues.

Also, some folks are a little extreme in this thread. Every big name in this hobby has a little slime on it. Ea isn't a front for human trafficking people.

Yeah the games they made for the Sega Megadrive are awesome, nowadays they tend to be average at best. The only EA game i've bought this gen was the lastest NFS game, and boy that game was average at best :(

Pretty much. All the gaming giants suck in terms of how they run their businesses, but EA isn't the worst from the gamer perspective. Not even close. Look at Activision. Look at Ubi. Look at the Japanese companies like Capcom and Konami that have gone down the toilet. Heck, look at Nintendo thinking they can now charge for non-existant online services (LOL).

Even in the PS3 gen they still took some chances. Unfortunately many of their "riskier" games in that gen didn't sell (Shadows of the Damned, Mirror's Edge, Syndicate, Alice: Madness Returns, Brutal Legend, etc). So they retrenched back to "franchises only" and that's pretty much where they are now. But at least they still have more stuff going on that Activision who seems to pretty much do nothing decent anymore.

Unfortunately very few companies take the long view. Most just want to make the quick buck, and their products suck because of it.

I'm pretty indifferent about EA since I don't play a lot of their games but I commend them for having a variety of genres available. Their business practices are definitely not the greatest though.

Don't really know that much about them and the only EA game I'm playing (though I haven't played that either for a while) is Battlefield 1.

I loved EA back when they had EA BIG. I'd say EA sucks now compared to back then.

I don't think I even own a game published by EA now that I think of it... I might jump into the Mass Effect series with Andromeda if it is what they seem to advertise.

I never hated any publisher or developer. EA is a business and they're not forcing me to do anything. But, I always do the talking through my wallet. If EA has something I want, I buy it.

It's been a few years since I bought an EA game (Crysis 3). Once I get done with Fallout 4 (Steam), Titanfall 2 is next.

Respect? That's a big word tied w/ emotion for a business that I have little dealings with. However, I really do like them as a player in the game industry, they put a lot of good stuff out there. Mu only gripe is the exclusive deal w/ the NFL.

its funny. this gen i have basically not bothered with most AAA games. i dont think i have bought a game from EA, activision or ubisoft in a couple of years now. its nothing particular against these companies. its just a lack of interest.

but i will be getting mass effect andromada. that is looking good.

they have done a good job with managing their resources though. i think the frostbite engine is now the go to engine for all development at EA and that is a good thing. it just makes things more efficent. the fact that the frostbite engine is also a cracking bit of tech certainly doesnt hurt. EA were clever by having developers focus on pushing beyond what the PS3 and 360 could do before the PS4 arrived. so they were well prepared. as a result they make many of the most impressive looking games this gen. compare that to, say, bethesda who have a tech base that basically stinks (please switch to IDtech for elder scrolls 6...PLEASE!!!). or sony who had a tech base and set of tools that were completly unsuitable when the PS4 launched.

2 things i dont like though:

1) they nickle and dime on the DLC.....really badly. its arguably necessary due to the cost of development but games shouldnt be sold in pieces. a lot of companies do this in fairness but EA do seem to really push it as far as they can.

2) they have a habbit of chewing up developers. if your studio is bought by EA prepare to move within 3 years.

EA has really improved their image these pass years or two on the pc, they have given me quite a handful of free games through origin.. Their EA access program actually seems reasonable, and they have tried to compete with Steam with their services when it has come to sales and what not.. They seemed to have gotten the message with the disastrous Dungeon Keeper mobile game and Sim City game releases.

No and I probably never will. They have a lot good IPs and they have some of my favorite things like Madden and Star Wars, but I hate when they pull crap like giving us half the game and then doing the other half in DLC. I had fun with Battlefront, but it reeked of EA.
