As BusinessWeek points out, Apple made a big splashdown at E3 without even clocking in a presence. That reminds me of its looming presence at the CES trade show every year without setting a foot in Las Vegas. Electronic Arts executives said they're going to be making Spore, Tiger Woods & Need For Speed for the iPhone platform. SEGA America president Simon Jeffery pointed out that iPhone was as powerful as the Dreamcast player. SEGA has released Sega Super Monkey Ball and plans on releasing more games.
I think that answers your question rather nicely. :)
ii'd say it is. has its own decent versions of simcity, katamari, MGS, and good other games like iDracula, Rolando, and has alot of people making original games for it, but also has alot of crap on it too, but thats whats gonna happen when you release hundreds of apps a day
im confused i don't want one as an mp3 player but as a multimedia device and games console i'd want one just to experience its best to offer, even if that is very few
Super Monkey Ball is awesome on it... bloody difficult thoughAs BusinessWeek points out, Apple made a big splashdown at E3 without even clocking in a presence. See the top of this website?
Notice the tabs: PC, 360, Wii, PS3, PS2, PSP, DS.
If gaming websites don't consider it a competing console/handheld, then I sure as heck don't. If it was a well established gaming device like DS or PSP, then it would have its own tab at the top where we could go to find all the latest news and reviews on games.
My iPhone whispers to me at night "Why don't you play with me?" and I yell "You're not a gaming machine dammit".
It is a good phone though, no question.
It's in between Mobile Phone and DS/PSP for me.angelkimne
i think that too, the iphone is a rip off though, same with the touch its like 8 gb £150 for less you can get a 120gb ipod classic.
Not in the slightest. When even Square-Enix and Konami put on flash-game level versions of their own games, I never expect a serious effort to be made in releasing a "must-own" hardcore game. I see it as good competition for cell-phones, and cellphone games, but those don't belong here, and neither does the iPhone. Its a million years behind the DS and PSP game-wise.110million
But it's more powerful as a gaming machine than both :)

And?I see it as a proper gaming platform, it is only just at the beginning of it's life though.
It's also hard for people who don't own an Iphone to understand just how good some of the games on the System are.

And?That coupled with the huge library of games make it a gaming platform that should be recognized in SW's. Outside, in the real world, it is and it's fast becoming a force to be reckoned with.
"Legit" consoles are only as strong as their software lineup. People could argue the PSP is not a viable gaming console because of its absence of strong software. If Apple (or third-party) can dev a title that breaks the mold of simple cell phone games then Im sure more people would take gaming on the iphone more seriously.
Game On...

Well..even before iphone mobile phone gaming was bringing couple billions dollars each year and yet it was kept quite separate from "normal gaming". So I don't see how it's surprising that yet another mobile gaming platform that iphone is gets the same treatment. You also don't see core sites like Gamespot taking interest in ...say casual PCgaming, despite it also being a "force to be reckoned with". I mean crap...it's much more evolved, it's far bigger than iphone gaming and has better and deeper games, but you still won't see it apearing on core sites much.Mobile gaming and it's new champion iphone are making a splash, just not in core gaming enthusiasts sites like this

Are you saying me that the people's opinion is that the iPhone is a gaming device? Yeah, it is mostly just flash games, I mean, sure a few of them aren't but their just ports of games that ended up working well with the lack of controls, some plane simulators and monkey ball and stuff, but like I said, Square-Enix's attempt, was a tower defence game, with FFTA2 sprites, Konami took shots of MGS4 and made a lame shooter where you touch things on the screen to kill them, like many flash games, both are huge developers that have put out a lot of huge budget games, but their iPhone entires are no more spectacular then previous cellphone or flash games and I do believe the trend will continue in such a way, despite the iPhone's "power".
well dont even like apple that much macs are horrible for gameing but i like the idea of a iphone a game player a music player and a phone all in one which is awesome and it works great this is really the only product that i enjoy alot from apple but honestly with the appstore thriving as much as it is this is a game player in all aspects.
