Do you see only 1 major console anytime in the future?

I do not frequent SW very much though I do come here occasionally to check out the latest news in the gaming world. I am curious to know if any of you think that the cost of making games will force a one system market where only game developers compete and not console makers. Since this is System Wars, who do you think would come out on top? I'd have to say it'd prob be nintendo since VG is all they have ever done and they seem to have garnered a foot hold in the casual market.

Also, if that does ever happen, what would happen to system wars? Would everybody lay down their arms and sing Kumbaya or would it be more like confusion and anarchy?

Will never happen but it would be nice to think about. Buy one machine and play Mario,Zelda,Halo,Gears,KZ,UC...that would be nice...but never will happen.

Also if there was only one console they manufacture could charge an arm and a leg for it and you would have to buy it if you want new games because it is the only console.

I have to disagree with that one. Consoles are still plug N play and every single game made for that given console workds 100%. My younges boy spent his money on SPORE for the PC and never got to even install it cause his pc will not run it. So there was 50$ down the tube as walmart wouldnt take it back. OH and thanks to all the software pirates out there that have made it near impossible to return anything..yeahh!!..Thanks pirates!!..

Nintendo has allot of reserve money now, so they could survive 3 gens of Gamecubes, or 2 Virtual Boys

Sony and Microsoft game devisions are both part of larger companies (Microsoft software, and Sony electronics,music, and movies/video). Both those companies have strength and won't fail any time soon.

On Live has already started this trend, I think it could take off if they do it right. Then it would just turn into subscription wars like Sky and Virgin. woo....

Oh I hope not, otherwise we will have what we had at the PS3 launch. An overly cocky company expecting people to get two jobs to pay for their $700 console. Competition is good.
