Do you still have faith that FF7: Remake will be good?

I mean come on guys, the game was announced in 2015, and had its first demo in 2017, was then announced it would be action-based and THEN announced it would be episodic and THEN it was delayed AGAIN after its official street date,

How can anyone have faith that this game will be good? Yeah the cgi looks fabulous but the combat looks about as vanilla as an action rpg could possibly be.....run up to the enemy and hold down a button.

This game is going to be a travesty and you can quote me on it.

P.S. - I actually wish it would be a great game, hate to see developers struggle but there are just waaaay too many red flags on this title.

I do think the genral public will like it. The don't care if the game is shallow and can easely be happy with some fancy graphics and nostalgia.

As for me: I'll probably end up hating it, but I give it a chance. It is far away from what I hoped it to be, but I'm willing to at least try it.

Its Final Fantasy and an old one, so not much faith. I saw the recent story trailer and it was cringey.

I'm sure it'll do okay on launch day, but I have zero interest playing FF7 Remake. I'll wait for the complete edition when it comes to Steam and besides, I rather just stick to the original game I still have somewhere stored in my garage.

Of course, it's gonna be awesome. The reason it took so long is because it was changed and restarted mid-development.

@MarkoftheSivak:

Unlike most returning FFVII rpg fans, I have reasonable expectations for the remake. It's a brand new way to enjoy Final Fantasy VII! Can't we all just be happy about that? So what if it's action/rpg rules? It's still under the same, original writer! So, it'll still be well within the confines of the original vision of FFVII.

Oh absolutely. This game looks incredible and I really don’t see how it could possibly turn out bad given everything that we’ve seen on it already.

Pretty sure it'll be decent. That being said, unless the rumored PSVR support arrives at launch I'll be waiting to pick it up until all of the episodes are released, however long that takes.

Thanks for the input guys. I might actually get it if it manages to score 8/10 or above across sites, thing is with so many changes im fearing it will get 6/10 or less.

I think it'll be good, critically it'll be boasted as orgasmic given it's not on Xbox and I am sure it will sell well. It is a remake of one of the most highly regarded FF games of all time so as long as they don't screw up in some spectacular fashion I think it'll be just fine. About only thing working against it is the episodic model (are they still doing that?), bit skeptical of that since I felt I got cheated when Capcom did it for RE Revelations 2, splurged for the pricier season pass or whatever and it didn't even come with everything.

No, I think converting it to an action RPG will ruin it. I don't get why so many developers are moving away from turn-based combat.

I don't have faith in anything, but I have reasonable expectations for it to be good by looking at what has been shown and from critics who have had time with the game.

From what i've been seeing, I have high-hopes. At first I was disheartened by them making it episodic, but i'm liking what i've seen so far. Now, whether i'm right or not, is a wait-and-see... It could bomb catastrophically.

I don't see any reason it should be bad.

Not super happy about their choice of battle system, but we'll see how that shakes out. I haven't been following it too closely.

Excited to hear the music.

FF7 was an entire generation's My First RPG.

It was never a particularly amazing game (and it has aged horribly), but it's a nostalgia powerhouse.

Everyone overlooked the many flaws in the original (bad writing, bad pacing, glacially slow combat, awful minigames, etc.etc.), so it's a safe bet that millions of people will love FF7-R regardless of the game's actual quality.

As big of fan as anyone when the game released in 1997. I was 11-12 so nostalgia took hold hard.

I have no interest in the remake. Can’t put my finger on it but I won’t tarnish my memories with a Frankenstein version.

I would say that FF7 had some really good pacing as well. It only really became a problem when they went with the whole overworld thing. The Midgar section of FF7 was tight and focused. Which is kinda worrying if this game is looking to stretch it to 30 hours.

A lot of FF7's system also spiraled out of control as the game progressed.

  • Materia was interesting when you had a limited amount of slots. As you progressed through the game you would eventually have like 8 slots on both your armor and weapon. As a result, there was really no reason not to put all the best healing spells on everyone and raise. No need to specialize anymore since everyone could do everything.
  • As your characters levelled up and gained stats. The stat modifiers on materia became negligable. Only thing that really mattered was cheesing Barrett's max HP.

The masses will love it. Many of the old guard (40+gamers who were playing FF 7 on launch day) not so much. I am of the school of thought that it is just silly to split this game into 3-4 parts for cash spread out over a decade or more is just a horrible idea. If SE could not do it right, just don't do it.

Once again the masses with eat up any crap served up by SE, just look at the train wreck that is FF 15 that people act like they LOVED. Ones man's trash is another man's treasure eh?

I feel like a lot will be cut from the game, especially the global map. Would just be impossible to create an entire planet using current gen graphics at full size, not that it would bother me since the miniaturized world map in the original was just to travel/run across to get from A to B.
