Do you take SW seriously???

I mean lets think about this....

Do you use SW as a way to learn anything about the industry and the console wars or do you just post for fun, and enjoy the debate format of this forum?

I am just wondering because it seems like one group loves the fun of SW, where you can chat about gaming and systems, and say some outrageous things, make crazy predictions, and relish in the misery of others.

The other want it to be like CNN with Wolf Blitzer moderating, abolishing fun, and phrases like TCHBO!, and taking away what System Wars was, and making it into a coffee house where we all have sticks up our you know what.

Personally I don't take anything seriously on SW. It expect there to little to no valueble debate, and regardless of what you do to moderate or change how people act, fanboyism reigns supreme. I find it more fun when people are a little more hands off and just allow people to make fools of themselves, rather than have someone step in every five posts to remind me that I just may be trolling by pointing out an obvious troll....

It's fun to get sucked into the rumours produced by www.ps3botswania.com and other small sites that produce crazy rumours to garner hits. Its fun to watch the major fanboys do battle in epic threads, full of win and fail. Its fun to hype a game, and enjoy the wait, anxiously hoping for your predicted score. Hell even place bets on them, and endure the consequences if you lose.

SW is FUN. Or it was. I just think some people think are confused. The Forum is called System Wars.

So why do some people want to change it into "The McLaughlin group debates sales trends of three major entertainment companies."

i just get on here for news, people want to own other people so bad they post articles as soon as they are released :)-platy-

and its fun! but with some of the new proposed SW rules, that would not happen anymore and you would be moderated for laughing at them

Assuming you're referring to Subrosian's recommendations for SW, the idea isn't to create the Mclaughlin Group but to take SW back to the good old days where it was about having fun, not who has the most exclusives or highest sales or what game flopped. Maybe you weren't here back then, but things are far more serious and regulated these days. These days we have to deal with all sorts of fakeboys, ban dodgers, alt-accounts, and people are out making bets that if they lose, they are forced to leave SW fora significant period of time. How is that fun? How many more "Teh Wii is Kiddy" or "Teh 360 breaks" or "Teh PS3 has no games" or "Teh PC is expensive" threads do we need? Maybe you're a fan of those but some of us are getting tired of the same old rehashed topics and arguements.

plus people make bets on thier own free will....nobody forces you to do anything, and your not forced to honor your word, its just proving that you have a pair and can live up to your word, something all these fanboys you hate so much wont do and proves why you shouldnt take them seriously :)

The idea is to move towards less moderation. Now there would probably be some growing pains as users learned the new rules and guidelines but after a while SW as a whole would benefit. We wouldn't have to deal with the same-old rehashed threads, or multiple threads discussing the exact same thing taking up the first page. And honestly these changes likely wouldn't have a huge effect on the day-to-day runnings of SW other than less fakeboys, less trolling and fewer rehashed threads.

Sounds more like you dis-like SW so much that YOU want it change, while I see a majority of posters who come each day and enjoy this forum for what it is.

It seems like everyone around here has fun and enjoys SW as it is, except your and a few others. If you don't like the redudant threads, ignore them, you know you DONT have to post in them......

The mods have gone a bit crazy on SW. We have ads sponsored by Patron, an alcoholic beverage for those 21 and up, yet we must conduct ourselves like everyone here is a 4 year old. Saying that something is stupid will get you moderated. Saying, "go kill yourself" or "jump off a bridge" will get you modded for suggesting a member cause himself bodily harm or injury. It'll probably get you banned. Using the word "cow" can get you banned. Its crazy. The whole concept behind system wars seems like it should be a crazy forum that should be lax on moderation unless someone just cause on a profanity spree and starts posting porn and children being molested or something thats serious.

The finger wagging and, "he called me a mean name" needs to go. But i'm simply a mere gamer.

lol I kind of agree with you on this one. A few years back in "the golden age" of SW, it was so much better, the mods were alot less strict and frequently joined in discussion and you didn't have to talk like everyone is 4 lol. Like for example I remember you used to be able to put the first letter in a swear but just recently I got a warning for doing just that. I was really surprised because ppl here always, well used to always just bleep out the other letters, just not the first so older ages can still tell what you are trying to say. Its not as fun as it used to be here. I guess this site is to big and commercialized to have the forums like they used to be now though. Dont get me wrong though, I still enjoy SW, Its just not like it was back then.

I think its agreeable that some threads are over done but you can't say no more this thead or else ban...thats just way to far....

you can't limit what people can make threads on as long as the pertain to SW, no matter how old and rehased it has been done.

SW is not some sort of cool table that you have to be invited to.

You seem to be under the impression the various proposed rule changes are going to mean a huge change to SW. They won't. They'll trim away the "fat" of fakeboys, trolls and alts and leave only the "white meat" of SW.

The idea would be to have a minimum level or post count for SW to avoid alts and fakeboys. Level 10 was suggested because it's easy to reach for any user who plans on contributing something meaningful to GS, so its not like SW would become some elitist paradise.
