Resident evil 4 wasn't made??? Gameplay-wise.

Seriouslly, We all know Cliffy B is a  big RE4 fan. But They definetily used alot of RE4's ideas....over the shoulder camera view(left side of the screen), The Berserker (claw dude from re4) , Exploding  bow gun etc etc. Thanks to RE4 new and fun camera view...Gears definetly got props for it, knowing it worked well for shooters. Not saying Gears is bad, Awesome game..but just curious.

Definately not, the only thing that game had for it without ripping on RE4 style combat mechanics. Was the Gun Chainsaw and the Shift cam. Gears of War can't even compare to Resident Evil 4. That alone makes its rating on Gamespot null and void.

I guess Capcom nailed it again...A gameplay style that works so well with shooters. Good for them.

ya, you're probably right on some level. but still, gears took what resident evil did well, and then made it even better imo, and thats great. everything copied something.

He wasn't saying it was bad :P More of a what-if situation. Everything from the art style to gameplay mechanics had me reminescing about RE4, so I really don't know what Gears would be like without it. Maybe something like Unreal Tournament :P

Cliff B said he took alot of concepts from other games. and RE 4 was one of them, i dont think its bad, he didnt steal it really. i mean he used the idea of a third person shooter. the berserker thing was a bit wierd and i forgot about that. i think the claw guys were scarier. but both great games. come on no need to hate on either.

i know he wasnt saying it was bad. i was just reiterating the point that it was true, and i dont see anything wrong with that. all the better.

i assume that some would. its not really important, they're both very similar and very good.

It really doesn't matter. Every game copies off of something so what is your point here?

The gameplay is sufficiently different that I never once thought GEE THIS IS LIKE RE4. Oh well except for the chainsaw part. But neither game introduced chainsaws to gaming. And you only get chainsawed in RE4. Unless there was something I missed.

Its weird how certain games have been criticized on here.  Gears took a lot of things from other games and combined them all to make a decent game and it is still recieving a lot of praise.  But a game like Resistance which also had inspiration from other games has been put down and was pretty much the bastard step child of shooters this past holiday season.  This leads me to believe devs make the difference when it comes to making these games seem fresh.

i dont think this is the case. its a function of how well you spin the concept and innovate with it. people see gears as groundbreaking in some ways, mainly visually, but in gameplay aspects as well. resistance is viewed mainly as a pretty shooter that does mostly what fps's have always done. i dont know if thats all true, but it seems to be the general concensus.

It would have been close to the same if RE 4 never came out. Your points really aren't anything special. Over-the-shoulder view? A big enemy that runs through walls? Not exactly alot of innovation and thinking outside the box going on there.
