I don't think so. Toshiba will not let that happen. There are going to be price cuts for HD-DVD players including the 360 one this may or summer. Second HD-DVD stand alone players will be half of what Blu-Ray player are this summer. The big movie studios like Universal, Time-Warner, Paramount, New-Line, have lots of HD-DVD movies out this year. Oh and a triple-layer HD-DVD can store 51gbs.

OH yeah, a multi layered BluRay disc can hold 200gigs.

As a HDDVD owner, I would say that this is its last year, its flopping BAD.

I haven't bought a HDDVD in 3 months, and I am seriously considering getting a Bluray PLayer.

Its terrible.

The Maxium the PS3 Blu-Ray drive supports is 50gbs. Don't give me this BS that Blu-Ray can support 200gigs.

Nah, I doubt it.

Not that I'm a HD DVD supporter, it's just that neither of them are going to be able to take over for a few years, thus neither of them are going to be able to force their competition out of the market for a few years.

And it really doesn't matter whose outselling who and this stage, because unit sale numbers are too small for that to be a factor. You'll often be reminded that Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD 2:1, but that's only a 100,000 unit difference. In the world of entertainment mediums, that's basically nothing.

blu ray is kicking the hell out of hd dvd the only way hd dvd will last is if they dual format disks come out before it dies, blu ray has way more support than hd dvd and 200gb>51gb

No, this war will drag out for another 5 years. But know what, it will all be for nothing anyway. Because downloadable movies and TV shows will trump it anyway.

"Although the Blu-ray Disc specification has been finalized, engineers continue working to advance the technology. Quad-layer (100 GB) discs have been demonstrated on a drive with modified optics. Furthermore TDK announced in August 2006 that they have created a working experimental Blu-ray Disc capable of holding 200 GB of data on a single side, using six 33 GB data layers.[8] Such discs would almost certainly not work on some of today's Blu-ray Disc players, as these devices are only designed and tested on discs that meet the current specification." From Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Ray Do you realize your wrong or should i gloat?

Please don't get a Blu-Ray player. Get a PS3! Trust me you won't regret it. Especially in the long run (did you forget it plays games too :) ). Oh yea Buy Casino Royale on BD. It's AMAZING. Plus exclusive movies like Spiderman 3 and Pirate 3.

If Fox , Sony , and Disney stay exclusive to blu-ray against Universal on the hd-dvd side then that will put an end to HD-DVD eventually.

Dont think it will win but it's not over yet. Don't forget Betamax beat VHS the first year apparently then VHS came back and won the format war so really bottom line is "no one knows anything"

PS3_3DO is right. Just because it's a Blu-Ray dos not mean the PS3's drive will play it. The PS3 drive supports up to 50GB disks.

Maybe, maybe not... a firmware update could change things. anyhows if the HD-DVD even works with triple layer discs given 50gbs its totally useless for games as the drive cant be used.

MS are in a mess, came out blazing think theyll be around for awhile but eventually they will crash an burn.. here comes Xbox720... ow firmware update for PS3 suddenly comes.... behold 6ghz cell ;)

HD-DVD put up a worthy fight, and I salute the HD-DVD camp for trying to keep it alive, but its dying and they should just face the music. Blu-Ray will be the future of HD media. More capacity, better reliability. Is it more expensive? Yeah sure, but so are most new technology. Once the format war is over the prices will drop dramatically. This all thanks in part to the PS3, and the people who buy it and then decide to try a Blu-Ray movie and realize how incredible it is. At this point I think it is safe to buy a Blu-Ray player and have confidence that it will not be obsolete within a year, unlike HD-DVD.
