Do you think Microsoft will close Rare after Sea of Thieves?

F**K SW needs to calm down about this game. Sea of thief seems like a solid game. It is exactly what MS wanted from Rare. Why would they shut them down. Its going to drive gamepass subs and if supported right it has a potential to be huge. Everyone who played the betas had positive initial experience. The worry is content but that is something that can be addressed later on.

Rare was already dead the moment Nintendo refuse to buyout Rare, MS just added more fuel to the fire on Rare's declining even further.

Rather Rare actually came on top with Sea of Thieves remains to be seen. So with that, "I have no idea"

I mean, I don't even think that Rare from today is what they used to be in the hayday of Nintendo.

Old Rare is dead but I hope they don’t close the new one down. They need Rare if they want to stay relevant. They are one of the few studios they have that isn’t making Gears, Halo, and Forza.

Microsoft can't afford to close another studio as it wouldn't leave many left.

I don't know. If they do that MS may as well be one step closer to yanking the rug from under Xbox, so I doubt it. But then again, I didn't think they'd close Lionhead either.

If this game is done and supported properly, it will be exactly what MS needs.

Honestly enough, I'm way more surprise were seeing lots of SoT threads all of a sudden now, this isn't the big MS game nor it's a AAA game to begin with but here we are, everyone's talking about it which is funny to me lol.

So if SoT gets good reviews SW will flood with ‘is SoT the most overrated pirate game of all time’

It gets poor reviews in which case it will roundly mocked for being a flop.

Kameo was still a great game on 360, but that was the last Rare game that I really enjoyed. I am liking Sea Of Thieves so far though.

Looks like this game is shitting the bed. I’m gonna wait for official reviews but it looks like another low tier entry for the Xbox one. What a disappointment

I voted no, because it’s MS fault for not knowing how to run their own game companies. Which is why MS shutdown a bunch of them

I sure fucking hope not. That's basically the only interesting studio MS have left. I love Rare and have ever since they made Donkey Kong Country on SNES (or Snake Rattle n Roll for NES, tbh). Was super sad when Nintendo sold them, will be even more sad if they close.

@boycie: all joking aside, I actually enjoy some Microsoft releases like the Forza series, and competition is good. I mainly shit on lems because of their blind loyalty to a company notorious for pumping hopes and dreams.

I personally like a lot of Rare's efforts under MS. I though Nuts and Bolts was a fun game, Viva Pinata 1 and 2 were a lot of fun, and Perfect Dark Zero was my most played game when the 360 launched. I played the closed beta of Sea of Thieves very early on, but I am sure the game has evolved since then, but I think it looks like a lot of fun.

I do not think MS will close Rare, and I do not think MS will be gauging its success on sales alone. A lot of people will play this through Games Pass, and I am sure this game is making people try the service out for at least a month.

Either way, I hope the game is a success. It is nice seeing a game outside of the norm and I would like to see more of it.

I don't think they will. I think Sea of Thieves will end up selling well and Rare will continue to make another game. MS spent way too much money on them.
