Personally, I don't think so. It feels like last gen Xbox was more innovative and it also had these big blockbuster exclusive IPs that were refreshing for the time. Now it seems like MS is riding on the same franchises which are all too familiar. I also think the X1 user interface is clunky and not very intuitive. I find myself hopping through menus multiple times just to do something as simple as find a beta. I also thought their e3 didn't really give us that "wow!" moment that people were hoping for. It seems like backwards compatibility (not the real thing btw if you have to download the game) was their biggest announcement, which isn't all that exciting. I wanted to hear MS scoring big exclusives or revealing their next "Halo" or "Gears" type blockbuster. Or some other cool announcements that X1 can brag about. I was expecting some kind of aggressive marketing or some jabs at Sony to make this generation more interesting. Shouldn't MS try to be the Sega to Sony's Nintendo? On the exclusive library front? They are doing better than Sony looking to the near future (2015). On the sales front? They got BC with 360 which might help persuade a lot of those 360 users in the US to upgrade. Other than that, I don't see Xbox One ever coming close to the PS4 sales wise. Not that it matters really.

Let's wait till Scalebound, Quantum Break, ReCore and Crackdown get released before properly judging. For 2016 Microsoft has Scalebound, Quantum Break, ReCore, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, Gears of War 4 and most likely Forza Horizon 3 in addition to a new yet unnanounced IP to be shown on Gamescom. How is ratio of 5 (potentially 6) titles to 1 (possibly 2 if Horizon 3 comes out) a sign that they rely on tried and tested IPs?

Phil Spencer himself is not a big fan of FPS or shooters in general, business-wise he perceives them as a necessary evil because this is what fans want and this is what sells. But you don't see an overabundance of them on the system. It will never be like that.
As for other points, it's not as easy to undo what Mattrick had done, even with such a brilliant and "true" exec who is a gamer like Spencer.

I think they're doing great, BC got a lot of praise, a huge UI overhaul is coming soon(not that I mind the current one , I like it and to be honest I think the OP is being redundant with his criticism on the UI.....we discussed this many times before on SW, some people like it, some people don't......a huge overhaul that focuses on speed is coming soon.....so the people's complaints are getting addressed.)
A lot of the things they are doing is based on customer feedback, it's not just about competing with Sony . For that, they win a lot of points in my eyes. Tons of great games to play now and coming in the next few months .... Great time to be an Xbox One owner !
I think Phil is doing the best he can with the hand he was dealt. MS shot themselves in the foot with their messaging and pissed off a lot of fans. They also created a box which is a little less powerful than the ps4 so they started behind the ball.
That being said, they have had a great turnaround focusing on games. They have had 2 great E3s in a row showing off great games. They have the best software lineup from launch to year end 2015 of the two companies and its not close. If MS can even tie 2016 with sony's big releases that would be big.
Is it enough to catch up in sales? NO, sony will win. But MS can still have a very strong, profitable showing.
They are doing the best they can with what they currently have.
All the problems they are having are due to Microsoft being arrogant in thinking they had the monopoly in the games console market so could force consumers to pay for stuff they didn't want.
Luckily Sony was around with an alternative deal to force them to change, A lot of people say they hate Sony and Playstation, but if they were not around Microsoft would have never gone back on Kinect and the DRM, this is why you can never let one company have a monopoly.
Not going to compare companies here but I will say MS is not showing anything that makes their product must have. Same IPs I didn't play last gen. They need some new innovative devs and they need to let them make their vision and not assign them product.
The reason they haven't done this is because they were counting on the entertainment aspects to push sales. That didn't work out for them....they back tracked and now they have to make up for it.
As for the lems....you like those games...enjoy. But realize that MS needs to attract more than you guys to compete.

I think it's ridiculous that people MS needs more variety in their game library. They have quite a large spectram of games beyond just shooters from exclusives to third party games but that has always been the knock on the Xbox for Playstation and Nintendo fanboys from the 360 days. Do I think they are doing enough to compete with Sony, I think now they are doing quite a lot to do that. They had different ideas coming into this generation and gamers rebelled in the millions. The $500 price point drove 360 owners to get PS4 and to this day MS is still paying the price for that and that's why they probably 10 to 12 million units behind. They can still win U.S. in sales but seeing that they'll never win Asia cause they are just anti-anything that is MS seeing how in the early days of the 360, they gave them a lot of jrpg's and they still didn't sell well over there. Plus, they have an uphill battle in Europe, maybe they can win some areas over there but chances are they won't win Europe as a whole so they won't win the worldwide lead. MS just needs to keep making the people that have Xbox One's right now happy and try to convince people still on the fence to buy an Xbox in the future, which is why it's good they announced B.C. and they should make up some ground this holiday.
I think they are doing great. Backward Compatibility and Modding for Fallout 4 were big steps to encourage people to get Xbox One. They also have pretty good games coming out in the futures. The reason why PS4 is outselling Xbox One is due to graphics. Plain and Simple. Yes, initial reveal is also the reason but currently it's inferior hardware of Xbox One. Nothing more nothing less.

Microsoft is to this day, affected by E3 2013. That being said, this E3 was, finally, a step in the right direction. While I will build a PC before purchasing any other home console, I see myself buying an Xbox One down the line. I miss Forza Motorsport, after all.

MS lost the perception war this gen. I don't think there's anything they can do to beat Sony.
I thought they had a strong E3 showing. They got themselves a bunch of exclusives for this year and 2016, the backwards compatibility should be appealing to former Xbox 360 owners, they've announced a complete redo of the awful Xbox One interface which people have been calling for since launch, and they didn't load their show up with gimmicks or anything and are focused on the gamers.
They've even got decent diversity within their game lineup for once. It's not just Halo, Gears, and Forza.
I think they are doing fine and their sales should start to increase as some of these bigger games come out. They are almost over that hump they created for themselves with the original announcements of the Xbox One.
That said, I doubt they'll catch Sony. Sony is seeing nearly runaway success with the PS4 because of that hole Microsoft dug itself. Sony has also done a good job of working the 3rd party devs a big more. Microsoft has lost the CoD association that helped the Xbox 360 so much and Sony has been bringing in more 3rd party games to the PS4 than will be on the Xbox One.

First off I didn't say I was showing you anything cause I'm not a game company, I clearly said what you want MS to show you, doesn't really matter to me one bit to show you anything. Like I stated everyone's taste in games is different and just because you don't like what they are coming out with doesn't mean it lacks variety which is what other people on this thread has said. Yes I'm including 3rd parties cause those are games you can play on the Xbox as well. Yean you can play them on other consoles but that doesn't take away from the fact that you can play it on the Xbox One as well so it counts just as much on that console as you can count it on any other console.

First steps first, MS got some pretty big dents in their reputation in the last years of the 360, and the X1 launch was a disaster on a PR level.
Currently they are reparing that reputation and trying to reappeal to potential consumer bases, by altering the public perception. It has been a hard road already, so for now they have been salvaging the freaking wreck. Which they are doing at a really impressive pace.
As for UI, I suspect that it is a mess partly on purpose, or rather they might be holding out for the Win10 launch on PC to update and fix most of the X1 UI since they will be Integrated, and will need the PC and phone versions operational to iron out the worst kinks.
"scoring exxclusives" are terrible alround, if they are not made specifically for said platform, it is nothing to celebrate, if you ment the creation of new IP's then I sort of agree, but we did see some good new IPs from MS at e3, just not that much to show for it yet.
I seriously doubt that MS can compete considering the state of the brand atm, better to fix the public perception and lose a single gen, rather then grinding the brand to the ground, into obscurity.

It doesn't have to be pure shooter. If the game at all has shooting I'm not into it. Such as ReCore which did have some shooting in the demo. Oh I'm a SEGA fan...or was. They aren't the same now. But I'll freely admit that. Nonetheless when it comes to the 3 console developers for the last several gens....I have always bought all of them. PERIOD. You couldn't show me any Sony praise. All empty words from you. I maintain all three are underwhelming this gen. But there are some third party games I want. I bought a console at Christmas for the family and it was the family choice. I plan on picking up a Wii U at some point. Not a family choice though. Just to cover those games for myself.

First off...you are the one claiming variety. Which is your opinion. I'm telling you that MS exclusives haven't that much variety. If you want to include third party...well I can play those elsewhere so it isn't going to sell me the console. I need more on a console that what I can get somewhere else if the somewhere else has first party games or exclusives I want.
Second....I don't want you to show me anything. Unless you are MS.
Third....you sure do defend MS for someone show isn't a "fan boy". If you weren't one....I'd say you'd agree that MS hasn't appealed to everyone. They do lack that appeal. It's why they aren't selling much the world over. They need to appeal to more than a core demographic. You'd see that....if you weren't bent on defending them. I have NO personal bias toward or against any console manufacturer. I have both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360.

Where have I praised Sony? I haven't. I haven't praised any company but SEGA and they are gone. This thread is about MS if you happened to read the title. I answered with what I think is one of their problems. And if you weren't a fan boy you might see what some of the stumbling blocks are for MS. But that would require you admitting they have some faults....and you won't do that.

Oh I'm a SEGA fan...or was. They aren't the same now. But I'll freely admit that. Nonetheless when it comes to the 3 console developers for the last several gens....I have always bought all of them. PERIOD. You couldn't show me any Sony praise. All empty words from you. I maintain all three are underwhelming this gen. But there are some third party games I want. I bought a console at Christmas for the family and it was the family choice. I plan on picking up a Wii U at some point. Not a family choice though. Just to cover those games for myself.

I criticize based on the actual product. Not what someone else does. And SEGA was one of the most innovative console companies out there. They had online first. MS introduced paying for online....if that is innovation for you.

Being a dick aside Microsoft needs more variety. There's nothing but shooters on Xbox.
I love how people constantly forget the PS3 has more FPS than the XBox 360 and the only reason why they are even close in number on that genre is because some PC devs ported PC/360 MP's to the 360. The PS3 also has more exclusive FPS games.
The Xbox One has more variety right now than the 360 did in the same time frame, the only thing it doesn't have atm is Jrpgs.

only one pure shooter here...
Xbone Games for 2016:
Scalebound - hack and slash with possibly RPG elements
Quantum Break - TPP action/adventure game
Crackdown - open world sandbox game
ReCore - most likely a hybrid of action/adventure and puzzle game
Sea of Thieves - open-world co-op multiplayer pirate-themed third person game
then you'd finally get a bona-fide shooter in Gears of War 4
It doesn't have to be pure shooter. If the game at all has shooting I'm not into it. Such as ReCore which did have some shooting in the demo. Also....not a fan of racing games so Forza isn't going to sway me. I WATCHED the E3 announcements every year for MS and thus far....nothing excites me. You can post lists all you want. At the end of the day MS needs to show me something I can't get elsewhere. And since their games hit PC....they don't have much that interests me that I can't get elsewhere.
In fact.....as I didn't see any presentation live this year...........MS WAS THE FIRST PRESENTATION I WATCHED.
