Do you think ps3 could compete with a next gen xbox (weekly sales/quality games)

If MS released a system this year or next I think the ps3 would be able to outsell it on a weekly basis and I think ps3s games would beable to remain competitive in quality and not get blown away if Sony continued to FULLY support it.

First of all MS has a weak first party they got lucky this gen and got alot of free party support but that seems to be shifting for the ps3 and the ps3 would have a higher install base then any new console and with continued Sony support so MS would even have trouble commissioning exclusives and all mutliplats would cater to the ps3 (much like they catered to the 360 earlier this gen).

Since we hit the point of diminishing returns for both advance technology and speeding alot on a game even if MS buys exclusives they won't take full advantage of the new xbox's hardware advantage and likely not significantly outdo ps3 games performance wise and their first party might get the budget for that but they won't out do ps3s games fun wise.

In addition to that ps3 would be at a lower price how much lower would depend on how much more advanced the next xbox would be, so if it was competitively priced it would have no chance of outdoing ps3 game wise and if it wasn't it would have no chance of selling decently and the 360s failrate would make people hesitant to get a new xbox system at launch and the fact that they charge for online, a fact unknown to the majority of people who bought a 360 until they had games and several assumed everyone charged (talking parents and the like not forum frequenters) will also deter some people. I really don't see a way a new xbox could outsell the ps3 sales wise if the user-base stayed healthy and as long as Sony keeps coming out with great games for it it's going to

First of all, MS are riding on the success of Kinect. It would be foolish for them to release a console at the end of 2011. Even at the end of 2012.

Second, Generally all systems are revealed atleast a year before their release. Just look at the PS3. Revealed in 2005, released in 2006, 2007 in some territories. I'd bet my man parts that the nextbox doesn't release this year and if it isn't unveiled at E3 this year, it won't be available in 2012 either.

Neither system needs to be replaced for at least another two years.. Its quite sickening how people are already crying out about graphics.. While seeming to ignore things outside of graphics completely.. My most favorite and most played games were never graphics kings now or for their time.. But due to GAMEPLAY I was able to play 100s and 100s of hours on them.. Quite frankly this graphics obsession seems to be hurting the industry completely.. Where people EXPECT that sequels MUST have new engines or they are just being lazy.. Take a look at freaking God of War 3, people can't stop talking about how amazing its graphics are.. But no one ever wants to point out that the game lasts 6 to 10 hours and has minimal replay value. Than you look at agame like minecraft that has graphics from the 90s.. Yet people have literally put 100s to 1000s of hours into it.

Not reading that wall, but based on the thread title, I'd say no... a new xbox would have great sales as happens with the new consoles.

As for the quality of games, they would be on par first (given that this new xbox has a much better hardware and power) because the devs would be experimenting with this new hardware, but after a while, it would obviously have better games.

MS is working on their Sony Killer as we speak, and imo the 1st party and 3rd party support for that would be amazing, MS can just throw money at the developers direction, and bring great games to the next gen xbox.
I think sony would be over when the next xbox is released.

You still haven't read my original post have you, show me two links of DEVELOPERS saying they are bored with the ps3 and ps3 will have the higher install base and get more sales from multiplats devs with cater to the ps3 and just port it to the next xbox (there were ps2/360 games) so no it won't happen like that developers will go where they can make the moneymomentum_god

Yea the developers had to do that because those games were made before the 360 was released.But when the 360 was out and developers wanted to make a new game,did they choose the PS2 for the lead platform?No.Thats what will happen to the PS3 going up against the new xboxJordanizPro

Why aren't they throwing money at developers direction right now??? They COULD. But they don't. At least not in a meaningull way that is going to "end" Sony. Basically right now all they are doing is throwing money at DLC, and making sure poor indy developers can't release their games on Wii or PS3. That's not going to convince me to buy their next gen platform. The only thing that would is if they get out of the gate 1st with a BUNCH of launch titles and no Sony console is even in sight, but that's unlikely. Nevermind the fact that Ninttendo is also a major player here.

The answer to the original question is NO, PS3 could not compete with a new XBOX. But obviously as long as Sony is committed to their own game development, a PS4 will easily compete with the next XBOX and Nintendo. Though considering Nintendo is likely to get out of the gate 1st, if they do it right they might have an advantage yet again (just in terms of sales).

I should ad to my previous post: The PS3 could outsell a new XBOX for a few months, but that's not really relevant. Everyone would still know it's days were numbered just like the PS2 in 2006-2007. I mean how many months did the PS2 outsell the XBOX 360 once it was released? Maybe it did in a few months, I don't know. But I'm sure even if it did that it was probably more a fluke than anything. Obviously at that point the 360 was building it's install base and the PS2's sold were either being sold to entry level gamers looking for a $99 system, or people buying a replacement/2nd console.2Chalupas
