Personally I think it set a standard. Whatcha think?

its a great game, but imo it set no standard.... also no MP for a shooter is not a good thing.. short sp campaign alone will set no standard in my records even if the game is good...
Vanquish is great. I'm not sure if it is better than Uncharted 2 though--love the Uncharted enemy AI--Vanquish is more akin to old 16bit shooters, but Uncharted feels a bit more cohesive, imo. Both games are a notch above any other TPS game on the market though.
UC2 set a standard and Vanquish was very close to that but not quite there. Gears perhaps has a chance to go one up over UC2 if it scores a 9.5 but no doubt UC3 will retake the crown.gamebreakerz__
Uncharted has yet to outscore the first Gears.

Standards change my friend, that is why if Gears 3 got 9.5 it would one up UC2.Nope, not as good as gears.G-O-M-Jim a massive gears fanboy and i think vanquish out does gears for gameplay.
What standard exactly...? It's a good TPS but there's nothing really ground breaking about it.

Oh lord. In order to effectively explain that I would have to type out a review of the flippen game, and I'm really not in the mood for that. First off, I never said it's ground-breaking. I'm merely speaking in terms of setting a standard of quality. That has nothing to do with being ground-breaking. I'm gonna try to keep this short...
Vanquish, to me, set a standard in terms of gameplay. The things you can pull off are pretty remarkable, but the most impressive aspect is how easy those things are to pull off and how fluid they are (the fact that you're doing these things at very high speeds is just unspeakably awesome). Boosting into an enemy at 60 mph, doing a kick flip off it's chest, and then shooting it WHILE you're still flying through the air just should NOT be this easy. The controls are so easy and fluid that it's stupid. Stupid good. Stringing these insanely awesome attacks together is just sooooo satisfying and it's amazing how elegantly it all flows together.
The technical aspects of the game have a level of polish that I have never seen before. The game looks pretty damn good, so it's very impressive that it manages to maintain a *very* sturdy framerate, especially at the pace it moves. I haven't experienced a glitch throughout my entire 1st playthrough or 2nd. The enemy AI is extremely good, and it always seems to react accordingly to every given situation. So you're gonna camp behind cover, huh? Well if a nearby enemy notices this he will run up to the cover, jump over it, and beat your ass. If you fire at them they dive or duck behind cover. If you're not attacking them or out of their line of sight, they turn their attention to other threats (your NPC friendlies).
It's just an astounding game and I personally think it has set the standard for all other TPS games to come. Uncharted 2? PFFT!
No, not really.
It just took normal cover based gameplay and made it cool to use, with all the fast paced tricks and ****
I do think it will have an influence on future titles. Current cover based games aren't nearly as mobile as i'd like, Gears being the worst offender, and even UC2 leaves alot to be desired.

Technically they scored the same. The only reason Gears' score is higher is because it was reviewed when GS used the 100 point system. Today it obviously would have gotten the 9.5. Wait, are you talking about Uncharted 1 or 2?

Waiting for the post man :( he's taking his time.
I don't. The game is still ****ing great fun though.
Seriously contemplating a God Hard run through  Last boss on Hard literally killed me 15+ times.

Yeah, the last boss is pretty nuts. Took me 4 tries to beat him on normal and I'm looking forward to fighting him on hard (in act 3 right now). What did you think of the end part where you
go into first person, take his gun from him and shoot him with it?
Words can't even explain how badass that was

It was pretty cool. He was a serious mind**** though, but in all hella fun. I hope they come out with a second Vanquish
especially considering the ending.
I know what you mean TC, it certainly has. The combination of intensely fast gameplay with melee and shooting alongside slow moton hasn't been done nearly as effectivily as shown in vanqish, it's satisfying because it looks and feels perfect when executed with the only few buttons given, as you said. soapandbubbles
Glad you agree :)
It's controls are really intuitive. I suppose I shoulda mentioned that in my mini-review from earlier. I think I can safely say that Vanquish has surpassed GOW3 and RDR as my personal goty.

Nothing would make me happier but apparently the game is selling horribly horribly bad, so chances are looking kinda slim :(
Anything is possible though I guess...

I heard the same, but if they keep the ending like that, with no resolution... It's gonna suck hard :(
The shooter gameplay was rock solid, and its a polished gem. Its amazing how they managed to make the game awesome looking, and have the framerate stay in tact with all the crazyness going on.
On the other hand, the game was a bit repetetive, and short. I mean, the bosses were great and all, but theres very little difference between the boss strategies. Also couldve used a Bayonetta like new game +. It was a fun 6 hours, but unfortunately I feel its kind of a forgettable experience.
Yeah this, as awesome as it is I can't imagine other developers using elements of it like they did with Resi 4 or Gears. Maybe there could be some developers in the future try to make faster paced TPS but that's about it.What standard exactly...? It's a good TPS but there's nothing really ground breaking about it.
the_mitch28
No, it has not.
I am sorry; I am reallynotunderstanding the love for this game. I played the demo and everything about it was average.
TPS shooters?
isn't that "third person shooter shooters"?
fadersdream
Yep. I threw the word "shooter" up there incase some people didn't know what "TPS" meant.
