Do you think the PS3 price cut will help close the market share gap?

between the PS3 and the 360 of course.

I dont think Microsoft has given itself breathing room in terms of price cuts, so i doubt they'll follow suit. If they don't we could see the gap reduced a couple of million in one year. I don't think PS3 is in a position where it could overtake 360 in market share, if I does, it'll be 5 years from now.

Nope it will not close the gap on market share as the Nintendo Wii will continue to gain more and more market share from the PS3 and 360 as it is selling at a much faster pace.

it will boost PS3 sales. but other than that, i don't think it will close the gap or any of that stuff that cows say it will. we might even see it outsell the 360 month to month, but i doubt it can catch up with the 7 million unit gap SilverChimera

How could M$ drop the price though? I mean, the PS2 is $99.. will the 360 actually go to 179.99 or 149.99 even? That would be insane.. but who knows, they have billions to waste so maybe.

It will eventually close the gap but not for a couple years.

if PS3 being $200 more expensive than 360 and 360 only having a 0.1 mil lead now I see no way 360 can overcome a PS3 price cut.

Of course, anyone on the fence should be encouraged a lot by a price-drop, as well as those looking to complete the trio for this gen :)

As for main topic, take a look at what the last price drop did. I think it might make the ps3 sell better for a few months but I doubt it will close the growing 7+ million gap.

Because the lack of extra's Cows are so proud of like Blu-Ray and build in Wifi the 360 will always be much cheaper to make and sell !

How about a Pro for the price of the Arcade , dropping the Arcade altogether?

Valhalla CPU and GPU combined 45Nm chipset for 360 is almost ready and will probably mean a slimline model with Natal included next year .

If there is a price cut, it'll boost sales somewhat, but by now the PS3 has a pretty crappy reputation, and most people either want a Wii or a 360. A price cut now would be like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

You just said the very reason why MS will make a price cut. It will be to stop Sony closing the lead on them.

The price cut for the PS3 will help people who want a PS3 but not willing to fork out the current price for it. MS will have a price cut but as shown in the past MS will advertise the price cut better. This is a big thing as a large number of customers are parents beforeChrismas and in their eyes the 360 is just the same as the PS3 so the advertising and the fact that its the cheapest console will make alot of parents pick the 360.

not likely since the 360 can price drop first, or at the same time, and they are in a more comfortable position so able to price drop and beat the other system.

This isn't even up for discussion. The gap is pretty constant at the moment, so of course a price drop would help decrease it. Just the same a a price drop for the 360 would help increase it. Price is the single most important driving factor. Why else would PS2's still be selling like they do?

of course the price cut alone won't close the gap, good games must be there too, thank God Sony realizes that.............the only problem is that the gap is already huge, so it may take some time to close it, but definitely the price cut for the PS3 will change how things work for all 3 companies (things are changing rightnow for the Wii and its sales are crushing)

The gap will close but at a slower rate that somepeople are expecting. it will take at least a few holidays to close the gap completely. the price cut cant really make the gap any bigger and we all know what slaes a price cut can produce at holidays.

i dont think that m$ will do another price drop due to the sudden drop in profits in their entertainment division that are now operating in a loss but well probably see one next year with natal maybe.
