Hirai said it would at the end of its cycle, but Greenburg said it won't even if the PS3 doubles in sales and 360 sales are flat, not even until 2014.
But what do you guys think?

In NA, the chances are slim, but everywhere else, it's very likely that it could happen.
Nope. Sorry, but it is just too far behind. Sony has been Dethroned by Nintendo for 1st place, then by MS for second. Fanboys can whine and wimper all they want, but sony is dead last this gen.farrell2kas a ps3 fan not fanboy, i do beleive its dead last but it could catch up next gen when everyhting else is out and new and more expensive than the ps3
No. Not in NA and not worldwide. Sony simply expected consumers to shell out too much money for thier system initially and the damage has been done.
The 360 is substantially cheaper and can play games that are pretty much identical which has taken a portion of Sony's hardcore gaming fanbase, while the Wii has picked up a huge portion of their casual gaming fanbase. Sony did have the cheapest Blu Ray player going for them, but unfortunately even that's no longer true. This gen is a wash for Sony, but I'll be eagerly awaiting news of the PS4 specs to see what they learned this time around.
MS is in a better position to execute any brand strategy.... When Sony tries to apply pressure with a price drop... MS will just counter with one of it's own...While the sales for both systems will increased...the gap will be minimally affected...
At the end of the day whoever wins in the "sales" area..Sony will have lost the most this gen..MS and NIN will have gained market share ..Sony lost market share .....And A LOT of itI sure hope not, if Sony does overtake MS, how much money do you think the next playstation will be? How many unnessasary things are they going to try and tojan horse into our living rooms? Don't get me wrong, I don't want MS to monopolize the video game market either. I just want Sony to learn their lesson and realize that the consumer is not as dumb as they once thought.T-AldousYou make an interesting argument that coming in dead last could be a blessing in disguise to Sony ethics-wise. Plus, there's nothing wrong with the PS3 coming in third so long as it keeps cranking out good games (much like Gamecube did).
If you look at the life spans of the two systems is likely to happen... Seeing as how the Ps3 was made for the long run while the 360 was just rushed out for a quick buckW1ckedGo0seThis is stupid. If Sony is in last place they wont be able to keep the PS3 selling longer then everyone else no matter what they say. The market dictates how long the console lasts, retailers wont stock them if no one buys them. Sony's 10 year prediction was based on an expectation of PS2 style market domination. Of course they arent backing down from that but it wont see anything close to PS2 and PS level support and sales towards the end. MS is confident their console will last at least as long as the PS3 but they arent stupid enough to make 10 year predictions.

Forcing people into buying one thing to get another (having to buy into Blu-ray to get a PS3) is just not right. And assuming that people will buy anything they put the name playstation on.
what do you me all said and done? i think they will till atleast 2011 or 2012 when the next xbox comes outjohnnyblazed88
It's definitely possible with the exclusive games coming and a price cut I could see sony outselling m$ they won't be able to touch nintendo but they can get m$ 360 is only $8 mil more and thats pretty shameful for a system with a one year head start without competition
It's not gonna happen. Even though I will probably be getting SFIV for PS3 (PS3 d-pad > 360 d-pad) aswell as FFXIII (one disc > four discs) and even though I am very much looking forward to Heavy Rain and the next Team Ico Project (assuming it will ever come out), anything Sony do right this gen will be too little too late.
They've had their chance.
[QUOTE="Steppy_76"]... there simply isn't any viable reason to think the PS3 is going to SUDDENLY shoot past the 360.LOXO7Yes all of that for, "When Its all Said and Done?" It already IS all said and done. The PS3 hasn't gained an inch in over 2 years. This is a football game and the score is 28-10 with two minutes left....an absolute miracle is the only thing that will keep Sony out of last place.
If one day the news channel reports that Nintendo ripped everyone off with a console and no dependable software to justify its longevity, instead of going with the flow and keep pretending to be as intrigued as the ignorant 40 year olds out there, I think both PS3 and 360 would surpass the wii in sales.
And then the two ACTUAL game console makers can duke it out.

2 years is not said and done it's just the beginning and you can say the same about the xbox360 3 years and it still has the same 8 million lead from the 1 year head start.

Yep. 360 will always have that lead over the PS3 :D

The generation started over 3 years ago, and has two or three years left. Tell me, following trends, if something has made up zero ground in two years how much ground is it on pace to make up over the next 2, 4, 6, or 20 years? There used to many that shared your blinded optimism, at some point you just have to accept the inevitable. Please Log In to post.
