DO you think the PSP2 would be good enough to be a Main Console for a gamer?

Basically, I find myself playing less and less games now because of time constraints and other hobbies.

I like the idea of the psp2 being my main console in the future. Mainly because I can carry it around the house and even outside and also I like the immersion handhelds give me when I play.

Do you think the games will be the same caliber as ps3/xbox? I notice how many of the games shown were ps3 ports like uncharted and MGS4. Do you think in the future that all ps3 games will come out for both the ps3 and psp2? If it does I think I can make the psp2 work as my main console.

To be honest, I'm becoming so tied down lately with study that the current PSP & DS could be my main console.

I play my psp more then my ps3 and wii combine, so it's pretty much my main console. it's all about the games not the hardware

Regardless of whether or not it's "Good" enough, I will personally choose a console > handheld every time. I play handhelds when I can't play consoles or a PC. It's not just a cut and dried substitute for me. I'd rather play on a 50" TV laid back on my couch than on a handheld screen.

No, It won't be good enough. Unless of course, you're on the road alot and don't have that much time to game.

But then I would say get the 3ds :P

Uncharted and MGS4 were PS3 ports? Could have fooled me.

I would wait to see what the media has to say, software and hardware like this usually tend to be easily broken, especially since it has quite a lot of tech crammed into it or maybe i'm just comparing it to the PSP of a few years ago but either way i'd wait a few weeks after release to make sure the games are worth it.

i can only speculate here. but if its relatively easy to get PS3 and 360 games running on the NGP then i could certainly see many of the big 3rd party multiplats appearing on the NGP also with the same features as their console counterparts. PS3/NGP cross online play is certainly a possibility also if sony wishes it. its not as powerful as a PS3 mind but if your happy with the visuals its pumping out (which are very nice) then its quite possible. the big question is how 3rd parties are going to treat it.

I can't see a handheld offering the same experience yet as an HD home console. My personal experience has been that the smaller screen and cheaper game prices often result in a smaller sense of scale and ambition. Hence why handhelds often receive "side stories" while the home consoles receive "proper sequels". Perhaps handhelds will, someday, attain a new identity as leading platforms for big budget game development... but I don't see that happening yet, certainly not from Western developers anyway.

That aside, I don't doubt the NGP will be a good system with "good enough" games.

Need to see more games, but I'm gonna say "NO".

IMO, handhelds are good complementary consoles for gaming but can't compare to household consoles.

depends, most time of the year my ps3 is my main console. But when summer comes (from may to september) my PSP is my main console because I work, and take the bus 20minutes, twice a day. Those daily 40 minutes are mor than my ps3 playtime. And I even sometimes play it on lunchtime with some coworkers (we played PeaceWalker each day during at least 3 weeks).

Se yeah, it could be a good main console.

I think the NGP will probably be a good replacement for a console if sony continues to support it as much as the PS3. I think it has the technology to keep you occupied.

I think so. Depending on your current situation really. My cousin ONLY has a Nintendo DSlite & XL for this entire generation, with no desire of getting any of the big 3 and he's perfectly fine.

I see no reasons why the NGP (or PSP2) would NOT be good enough to be a main console for a gamer.

If it weren't for its lesser graphics, I see no reason why the DS couldn't be the main system on SW, honestly. That library is extraordinary.

was the psp good enough for your main console this gen? I pretty much see the psp2 being just like the psp as far as games go.

There is a reason there is a market for things like the Game Boy Player, and the PSP TV cables. I woulden't give up my TV completly, no matter how much I enjoy my handhelds

With all the technology and a great pair of headphones yes (if the NGP supports 5.1 surround or something) but nothing beats lying in whatever position you choose in front of air-conditioning, a huge screen and a great sound system playing an epic game like God of War.

I can see handhelds becoming more prominent in my life soon. I'm going to be applying for university next year, which means I'll be out a lot, and hanging out at coffee shops/library to study, which means I'll have my trusty 3DS and PSP2 to keep me awake.

KingsofQueens

I agree. Money also plays a pivotal deciding factor. In order to really enjoy a game like Fifa 11 or high quality PS3 games, one must purchase a quality HD flat screen TV. I have experienced these games on a TV and a tube (crt) TV and it is definitly better on flat screen HD tv's but, those can cost quite a bit. In total, a $299 ps3 and a quality HD flat screen can run from apporx. $800-1500 USD (depending on the quality of display. Not to mention the PS3 will have more expensive games because they have higher development costs.

Personally, I have used the PSP both as my gaming and movie and music hub quite a few times by hooking it up to me 5.1 surround sound speakers. I enjoyed everything from first person shooters, to music and, even some HD like quality anime. The quality was superb! Now that the NGP will up every spec from an HD OLED display to 3G, I know that it will serve as an even better hub for games, movies, music, etc.

As for being a main console for a gamer, there has to be a break down of the inidividuals needs in a game and he/she has to assess whether he/he likes what they see at around E3 when may developers will begin to show off their fruits of labor for the upcoming NGP.
