Do you think Wii will ever get a GOTY?

I was thinking the same thing. Graphics only play a small role in the determination of a GOTY title. 

1. The same can be said the opposite way though. GTAIV/RE5/Halo3/MGSIV etc would just be a hella of a lot of worse on the Wii. Why aren't the PS3/360 unique? Why downplay the great effect good graphics can have?

2. Well that's an opinion. I've played a few Zelda titles (6-7 in total I think) and TP wasn't "woah" for me, it wasn't bad either though.

I'm just saying that the devs will have to be just as creative and good on any of the 3 systems, so why single out the Wii for its lack of graphical capabilities and not the PS3/360 for its lack of (sorry PS3) decent motion sensitive control scheme? 

I disagree with the GOTY almost every year, so I could care less if Wii does or doesn't get a GOTY award. I know what's the best game of the year to me.

I've only played the gold cartridge (a lot), LttP (haven't finished :P), OoT, and TP.

Mainly because of the graphics I suppose.

I mean, it's just a lot harder to be innovative than to create a strong atmosphere with good graphics I suppose. 

Am I wrong? I just don't see that much innovation in games. I can think of a few that are really ground breaking but there aren't many. That's why I'm singling out the Wii. This isn't DS vs PSP. Wii has much heavier competition.

Right. Honestly, did you feel like Gears deserved it? Or Zelda? Games need a big pick-me-up in terms of originality, and I hope the Wii can provide that... because I don't agree with GOTYs very often. Honestly, there are many years where there were just a lot of games that I liked playing, but none that I absolutely loved.

No, I don't think Gears deserved the title. I thought FFXII did because I liked the new battle system and it had a solid story (I've never played Kotor which people say the gameplay was similar to). 

TP wasn't bad but it wasn't great either (played it on GC). Felt a bit empty to be honest.

San Andreas didn't win GOTY (it should have). I think you mean GTAIII.

Its hard to imagine a party/puzzle game getting goty. 

I'm joking,the wii has some potential goty's in nintendo first party games like mp3.

Sorry, that´s only my opinion...The 3 last Nintendo GoTY were great due graphics...

This gen will be more than that...And that comes with AI and physics...

I have a feeling that the N GOTYs had more going for them than graphics. 

Not in 2007 against Spore, Crysis, Bioshock and Mass Effect, which from what we've seen I believe to be the front runners. Short of a miracle I don't see it happening (miracles do happen).

But in the future I'm pretty confidenta Wii game will receive GOTY. 

From each Lineup I've seen for 2007 and 2008, I don't see the Wii getting a GOTY compared to the PC/Xbox 360/or PS3 Lineup.

I don't see Mario or MP3 ousting Spore, Crysis, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, MGS4, FFXIII (not a fan of the series though), or GTA 4.  Nintendo will have to come up with something grand involving innovation and the remote with these games to even be considered IMO, and the Wiimote has yet to blow me away from "nexgen" controlling. 

If Zelda couldn't get GOTY considering it was their big hitter, then I can't see Mario Galaxy, MP3, or SSMB either.

I don't know if it will win one or not, but GOTY is just another useless label anyways. It only carries significance in the minds of the fanboys. Real gamers can recognize a good game without being told it is good.SmashBrosLegend

Saying that the 360/ps3 have the edge with power would be assuming there are alot of devs out there that can afford to unlock that power, there isnt.  The only way this argument would work is if you said PC has an edge over console because it can have any controller and no limitations on graphics.

The Wii to me has the best chance at getting GOTY as I have heard over and over againthat spore was coming to the Wii. That may not be true anymore it may not have the power to do Spore, at the same time it also has MP3 and the largest yet team of people working on a large scale Smash bros.

I honestly thing GeoW is a bit over rated as its only winning point with me is how much fun the single player Co-op mode is on harder difficulty. Wanna know how much the Graphics made a difference in my liking of GeoW? Non what so ever, as 2 people own it in my house and they are what you'd call graphic whoores, even for them all they do is b**** that the game is only 8 hours.

I honestly dont under stand how people think games like GTA and GeoW should get GOTY, they dont have history they dont have the build up and all they strive off is hype. Metroid has fans from back in the early 90's and Metal Gear solid looks like the only game am ready to say has a sure fire shot at GOTY, its got the art, its got the characters, and its got the story. Its also the first game I think should be made into a 3 part trilogy(movie). Its a great story and it should be known to more then just gamers.

Ya, if we jumped back to the year 2002 in a Wii Time Machine, controlled of course by Wiichucks, it might have a chance to compete.

I like all 3 consoles lineups but from the Wii's lineup I can only see a few that could be GOTY candidates.

I think if Wii is to get a GOTY the title has to be very unique and innovative, since PS3 and 360 are getting plenty of powerhouses in the coming years. For 2007 Wii has SMG, SSBB and MP3. Without the strong graphics the atmosphere could be lost when compared to a PS3/360 GOTY candidate but Wii could make up for it with its original controls. 

GOTY 2007 will probably go to either GTAIV, MGSIV, Crysis, Spore, Halo 3 more than likely, depending on whether or not those games are released this year. Next year there is RE5 coming for PS3/360 which could very well take the GOTY title just like RE4 did. There's also FFXIII and White Knight Story. I personally think if Wii is to get a GOTY it's going to be an incredibly innovative title which is just pure fun and makes you forget about the graphics.

Will Wii ever get a GOTY or is the competition just too strong? I'm basically asking will great graphics +  great gameplay on PS3/360/PC be chosen over average graphics + unique gameplay on the Wii? What do you guys think?

Probably true.

If Nintendo was producing games of a quality that was head and shoulders above the competition, as they did in the SNES era, then there would definately be a chance, but these days many other developers are producing games that easily match the quality of Nintendo's own efforts and some even surpass them e.g. Halo Vs Metroid IMO or Final Fantasy XII Vs Twightlight Princess etc.

Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, SSBB etc are going to have to be VERY special games indeed to beat out the likes of Halo 3 and GTAIV and all the other massive games coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Something similar to Windwaker, Metroid Prime 2 or Mario Sunshine will not cut it in my opinion...

Spore in 2007 and hardly anything really known about 2008... no I do not see any of the consoles getting GOTY's anytime soon.

I am actually expecting PC to dominate the GOTY for the next few years.

Funny...here i thought the Wii will most likely get a GOTY than the PS3/360 because it's brought in something new to the gaming scene.

But then again, it's all opinions. Wii already has a GOTY with Zelda from many other sites. GS doesn't. To single out a platform and ask whether it will ever get e GOTY just screams fanboyism...

But then again, opinions...

I'm sure a lot of people disagree with the GOTY winners anyway.
